WHO: Harry and Daphne
WHEN: Monday, June 16th, 2002 - 7pm
WHERE: Matsuri (Japanese Restaurant)
WHAT: Let's try this again
RATING: Uhh....whatever....
STATUS: Closed / Complete

Having spent almost an hour chatting with Susan at the Leaky Cauldron, Harry had forgone his shopping all together. He had to work tomorrow but he'd have more then enough time once he was off and the items really weren't things he couldn't live without. Just random items he'd only know realized he'd run out of. Shrugging it off, he had headed back to his flat in order to shower and change. He was slightly looking forward to the evening. He had not had the chance to dine at Matsuri in quite a while. If he recalled correctly, the last time he had been there was with Ron and Hermione, much to Ron's displeasure. He was more of the buffet sort of person.

Once he had finished, he made the quick and painless journey over to the restaurant and checked in for their reservations. As he sat at their table and waited patiently, he glanced around. He'd lucked out and managed to book a time when the restaurant wasn't overly busy and still maintained the calm and unhurried air about it. He figured if anything, they both needed a little bit of that to counter balance the push from the ministry. If he thought about it, which he didn't want to, they were suppose to be wed by the end of this coming week. If that wasn't enough to make one sweat, he really didn't know what else was. For the moment he was simply focusing on the detail. If he looked a single detail at a time instead of the larger picture he might be able to make it through everything with his sanity in tact.

"I hear you." he sighed, with a shrug. Like Daphne he wasn't exactly happy about it, but he was resigned. He figured, he'd lived through worse conditions, so he could very well handle this.

Despite not being happy, there was still plenty of things that needed to be done. "While I wish you luck on your endeavor," he responded, with a grin. "I suppose we should at least make it look like you'll be in the country. Was there a date and location you had in mind?"

"To be completely honest with you," she began, setting her sake down. "I have tried to completely avoid every thought about how quickly this is all happening. I think the only reason it's happening to quickly is so we won't leave and get out of this." She shrugged and looked over at him. "My parents are insisting Asteria and I have the weddings at our house in Suffolk. They don't want prying eyes and all that."

Giving a roll of her eyes, Daphne finished off the last piece of her sushi and gave up on the sake. She had slightly lost her appetite. "What do you want to do? It's obviously not going to be huge, just family as we've already discussed. Mum insists I wear a real wedding dress and make myself presentable for photos to send to my grandparents." She sighed. "I just want to get it over with. Maybe things will be easier afterwards."

Harry shrugged, picking at his own food. He could definitely understand how she could lose her appetite. He loved Japanese and he was finding it bitter to the taste all of a sudden. "I want to get this bloody thing and done and over with so we get on with our respective lives. I've had three spells backfire on me in the last two days because I've been distracted by this whole mess. No exactly a skill they look for in an Auror."

"I've just got my close friends and most of them will more then likely be dealing with their own weddings." he shrugged. "If it makes it easier, your Mother can have it the way she wants it. I don't mind at all."

Daphne laughed. "You're telling me!" she exclaimed, recalling the other day when she had a portkey completely swallow itself on her because she was so caught up in other thoughts. "I completely lost a portkey the other day. It swallowed itself and now I'm not quite sure where it would end up." In fact, she had just barely heard of that even happening before. Ever, but apparently it did. And apparently it happened to her.

"To be honest with you, my mum will have it her way no matter what, but she'll actually listen to me on this matter. Your best bet is to just show up early to sweet talk them for a bit. My father thinks it's a good idea, but my mum is livid."

Harry raised an eyebrow at her description of her own mishaps. He'd never heard of that happening either...though, he didn't know a lot about Portkey's either. "Well, you've got me beat. Impressive."

Sweet talk? Parents? He was sure that was going to be the biggest speed bump. Not to mention the description 'livid' wasn't exactly encouraging. "Any words of wisdom?" he asked, giving her a hopeful look. He'd only ever had to deal with Molly when she was angry and most times she had been angry at Ron, not him, and she'd been absolutely terrifying even then.

"I'm just lucky I decided to not test that one out," she said with a nod. Which was true, had she gone and tried it out, no one would have ever heard from her again. Bloody hell, portkeys all of a sudden seemed rather dangerous.

"Avoid the brothers," she said with a stern nod. "My father will be easy to talk to, my mum a little harder, but she'll get over it. She just thinks I'm in an awkward situation regardless of how good this is for me and my behavior, however my brothers are seriously thinking about blowing up the ministry. Or at least Shacklebolt. I don't think I've ever seen them so mad before."

That wasn't encouraging and you could tell by the look on his face that he thought so. "Avoid the brothers." he muttered, letting out a breath. "Duly noted."

He had now completely lost his appetite. It couldn't be one brother, oh no, it had to be two. Protective, older brothers. "I'm going to get my arse handed to me." he sighed. "Great. You don't have an Aunt or something who'll be hiding in the bushes to cut off my ear as I walk by, do you?"

He was suddenly starting to feel a little apprehension about this wedding. The rest had been locked safely away, but now it was starting to break through that barrier and he couldn`t say that he liked it very much.

"My brothers won't do anything to you but try to scare you. They know enough because I'll drown their arses before they touch anyone I bring home, including you. They'll just give you one of those really intimidating brotherly talks that include murder if you touch me, or something along those lines." She rolled her eyes, thinking of the one owl her older brother sent to Adrian when they were still back at Hogwarts. "They even scared Pucey."

But luckily enough for him, Daphne had no aunts attending the wedding, and if she did, none that would cut an ear off. "Not an ear. Perhaps a couple toes, though." She laughed as she looked over at him and shrugged. "You'll live through the wedding, trust me. It's just living with me that will drive you batty."

He knew the speech well. Just because the Weasley boys were friendly enough, didn't mean they hadn't given him the lecture when he and Ginny had had their brief interaction and he got off easy. He'd personally hate to be Hopkins right now. He was sure that they were going to have fun with him.

"That's a shame." he responded, with a wry smile. "I'm quite attached to them, I'll have you know." As he'd thought before. He'd lived almost seven years in a room with Ron, Seamus, Dean and Neville. If he could handle that, he could handle anything. Patience had been something he'd learned a long time ago. "I'm sure you're not that bad and if you I'll just bribe you with good food."

Daphne's brothers were complete gits at times. They got sick thrills in pissing people off and making friends of the families' lives a living hell. It's just what they did for a living, it seemed. Still, when it came to Daphne, if she said to back off, they knew better than to cross her.

"I understand, I rather like my toes." She shrugged, though couldn't help but let out a short laugh. When he mentioned bribing her with good food, another laugh was let out. "Look at you. Harry Potter, a man after my own heart," she said playfully, hands placed over her heart as if she were flattered.

Harry snorted. "I figure it's best to have a security plan. You tend to live longer when you have one." he commented, with a grin. So far, he hadn't worried too much about the coming weeks. He figured that if they found the right place, they could avoid stepping on each other's toes relatively easy.

"In all seriousness though, I'm not too worried about it. I doubt it will be that bad." he confided. "I reason if we find the right place we'll be able to avoid stepping on each other's toes and if worse comes to worse, we draw a line."

Another laugh was given and Daphne went back to drinking her sake. She might as well finish it off if she ordered it. It was only fair since it would be rude not to. "I'm sure everything will work out better than we expect it to," she said rather optimistically. Normally she'd be quite the downer on cases like this, but she figured it was good to throw a little insight out there.

"Well, here's to hoping we have a civil marriage," she toasted, finishing off her sake before she even gave a second chance about it.

Harry could toast to that, definitely. It's what he'd been hoping for all along, really. No one wanted the added stress of tense household. "Here's to hoping." he responded, taking a drink of his own sake.

"So, seeing as your mother wants both ours and your sisters weddings held at your home, then I suppose she has dates set out too? I figure she's not going to want to have both on the same day. That's asking for trouble."

"Yeah, we're definitely not having the weddings on the same day. There would be a murder committed that day and I assure you it would be a very specific member of my family that is not my mother." She was still pretty angry with her sister, so she was a bit jumpy at the situation between them. Hell, Daphne didn't even want her at the wedding. Scrutiny would be running wild that day and if Daphne didn't want to hear it, she had to uninvite certain people. Asteria being one of them.

"I'm assuming ours will be one day and hers will be the following, though I'm not entirely sure which day it is specifically. Don't we have to be married by the end of the week? Bloody hell."

Harry raised an eyebrow but didn't comment on the situation with Daphne's sister. He figured he was better off staying out of it. The last thing he wanted was to be caught in the middle of a war....especially between sisters. You really couldn't get much more dangerous then that.

Harry just manageded to hold back a groand, but just. "Yeah, the end of the week it is." he nodded, honestly thinking that it was impossible to arrange everything in such a short period of time. "I suppose, I'm actually going to have to start making arrangements for this..."

If only he knew how bad it could get between sisters. If only he knew. Daphne tried to avoid fighting with Asteria as much as possible, but there was no denying that at times, she drover her crazy. Daphne didn't like having a sister. She wanted to be the only female in her family, but she had to work around that for the past twenty some odd years.

"It'll be easy. We do have magic," she said with a nod. Muggles must have had it hard when it came to weddings. "And an endless supply of money, I think we'll be okay if it goes the way I'm hoping it goes." Hopefully it did, too. "We'll be fine."

Harry sighed lightly, his mind already moving to ponder some details that continually seemed to plague him. He figured dinner was all but over what with the downhill spiral of conversation. Pulling himself out of his musings again, he turned his attention back to her. "I don't think I'm going to wait in regards to the Realtor. I'll see what I can set up ASAP. We clearly don't have the time to be overly patient."

A couple days was all they had....he was no longer surprised why many couples decided for a long engagement. It gave them more time for all the bloody details. "So..." he eventually added. "...if your sister's wedding is after us ... ours is Saturday?"

"Well, if worse comes to worse, I honestly don't have a problem with you just moving in with me. It's not like I don't have the space right now and I do have a spare bedroom off of the living room. It would be no trouble at all." Which is kind of a lie. It would be all sorts of trouble, considering Daphne used that as a storage area for all of her clothing, but she could make do and use her actual closet for once. It wouldn't be that big of a problem.

Daphne gave a slow nod. She had to think about it for a moment, but she supposed he was correct. "It looks like that's what it's going to be. Mum would have a cow if Asteria got married before I did."

Harry wasn't so sure it would be so easy. Normally, a spare bedroom wasn't exactly a spare bedroom. Furniture would already be in there and the like, so they'd have to rearrange and clear out, which was far more difficult then simply moving into an empty room. He was determined to get their living arrangements out of the way before it became an issue. He figured it was about the only thing left for him to do, and he needed to be doing something. "We'll see what happens, I suppose."

"I suppose that makes sense." He responded, not exactly sure how it was suppose to work in Pureblood families, traditional or not. "You being the oldest of the two of you."

She didn't mind if he did move in, but it would be even better if he didn't since it would mean a lot less work to be done on her part. Plus, she wasn't quite prepared to go through all of her stuff and get rid of the things she didn't have room for. That's why moving in would be the best idea. More room.

"You know what?" She began with a wild smirk, looking across the table at him. "Let's just go all out. Invite everyone, I'll do the same. Make it as big as possible. Might as well, right? It's our only wedding, might as well make it the best."

Harry was quite glad he hadn't been taking a drink of his sake when Daphne voiced her most recent idea. The level of insanity it held made him swallow the air he'd breathed in and he figured anything over 4% of alcohol has going to hurt if it came out of his nose.

"What?" He asked incredulously. It was stress, that's all. Anyone could go insane with the amount of stress they were both under. He couldn't hold that against her, that would just be cruel. Yeah, Daphne, that's a great idea, shall I invite the media?" he asked with a fair share of sarcasm.

Daphne cast a quick glare over at Harry before letting out a great sigh, her hands in the air as she officially threw the towel in. Yeah, she was stressed. "Thanks for dinner, Harry," she said, taking her napkin off her lap and standing up, grabbing her bag before she looked at him quickly. "All you have to do is show up."

With that, she turned around and began walking towards the door, nodding at the waiter as she passed him. She could have really used a fag right then, so as soon as she stepped outside into the cool air, she lit one and paused, leaning against the building, her free hand running through her hair in frustration. She wasn't mad at him, she was just really upset over this whole situation and didn't know what the hell to do about it.
