Is anyone else here royalty who arrived displacing other royalty? I could use some advice, or at least someone in a similar ship to bounce thoughts off of. It's difficult to judge what my responsibilities should be in this situation.

I am. Arthur Pendragon, formerly of Camelot. Prince of England, now.

Thank you for responding, your Highness. Leia Organa, Princess of Alderaan. Or rather, of Sweden. Can you tell me something about your experience with changing allegiances, because of this vortex? Or do you feel your allegiance has changed?

It was.. interesting. I was supposed to marry a girl I didn't know. The Queen was not happy that I called it off a week before. The whole thing has been a bit.. strange. It still doesn't feel quite right. It's strange, not leading my knights. And magic is handled differently here, too.

I do miss Camelot, and feel a responsibility to a land I can't reach any longer.. But it isn't so different here.

Political alliances are part of the territory, it's true. I won't miss that particular bit of pressure. Though if some of the relatives I seem to have acquired with my new position have their way, I'm not done with that pressure at all. Figures.

It's at least a comfort to know that others have the same feelings I do. Thanks. You seem to have settled in.

Possibly.. Though it seems there's more flexibility, here. The girl the Queen wanted me to marry was a commoner, not royalty from another kingdom. It's refreshing.

Useful to know. Let's hope Sweden is as liberal as your England sounds to be.

You worry too much, your worshipness.

Do you really need to call me that? Really?

Do you really have to ask?

Sebastian Vael, prince of Starkhaven in my own land, prince of a place called Monaco now.

Thank you, your Highness. My name is Leia Organa; formerly princess of Alderaan, now of Sweden. If you don't mind my asking, have you found the transition difficult? Do you feel a duty towards your new country as you did to the old one?

The transition was most difficult to begin with; I was actually pursuing the path of a brother in the Chantry - I suppose that's like church, here. I was thrust back into the princely role here, but at least Monaco is not at civil war with itself.

I've adapted, I think; at first I was upset, but I've been using the position to do things like charity work and to help speak on issues such as refugees in Africa. The palace in Monte Carlo will be the site of an upcoming meeting between two warring countries' leaders to attempt to conclude a peace treaty. I don't feel a duty to Monaco, per se, but certainly to its people. I do not make the laws here, but I have an obligation to give them a ruler to be proud of.

I've also made some dear friends and found a truly wonderful woman to share my time with. And a puppy. Really, life could be far worse for me here.

That's a comfort. I had a number of responsibilities back home. We'd just finished a galactic war, and I was an integral part of the process of building a new, steady, peaceful government. On a more personal level I was the heir to the throne of largely-destroyed populus and attempting to establish a constitutional monarchy to guide those of us who remained. I worry about what those I've left behind will do in my absence. In light of all that, I...hesitate to take on any duties here. But at the same time, I've replaced this country's own princess, so those duties feel mine already, even if I didn't choose them. And I'm told there is no going back.

It's fortunate, at least, that this new country I'm in is a largely peaceful one. It seems to have a history of staying neutral in major conflicts.

I'm glad to hear you've made a home for yourself here. I'm sure I can do the same. The question is which path to take as I attempt to build it, and determining what I should or shouldn't burden myself with.

I could have elected to play the rake, to cruise around from party to party, but I'm simply not designed for that. I worry for Starkhaven, but unless someone has found a way for me to return, I can do nothing more than pray.

If I might sound personal for a moment, do not neglect simply sitting and speaking with people. I'm sure you know that this job can entirely go to one's head.

The rake? You don't seem the type. And no, that's not a temptation at all. Perhaps I'm just resisting this idea that there's really no way back. Taking on duties here means acknowledging that the ones behind me are gone. That's inconceivable, frankly.

It's one of the most important parts of the job, I believe. And I don't object to speaking on a personal level. In fact I appreciate it. Though fortunately I have a partner of my own who's very adept at making sure things don't go too much to my head.

I was technically the queen of the Daylight Hours in the Abarat, though I never acted like it. I'm the princess of Belgium here.

Belgium, I've heard of your country since arriving...we're both part of this European Union partnership, correct?

You never acted like it? And how can daylight have a queen? That's abstract, to say the least.

That's right. I'm not the most active princess. I'm about ... sixth in line to the throne?

In the Abarat, where I'm from (pretty much), there's 25 islands, one for each Hour. And I never acted like it because I didn't realize that the soul of Princess Boa was inside of me. ... yeah, I know.
