A Visit To A Client
Subject: A Visit To A Client
Where: The London Streets and Lord Mountford-Miles' city residence
Who: Harry Fisher
Open to: Lord Eward, whoever else Harry might meet and converse with on the way

Harry enjoyed mornings. True, he had been delayed at Marguerite York's home for several hours and had missed the early morning rush of tradesmen, market-stall owners, cart-drivers, pickpockets and burglars heading home, but the streets were still busy enough. One or two even gave him a nod as he walked past, and he returned it, placing each of those who greeted him in the social map in his head. Fred Jenkins, gambler; Robert Ewing, debtor; Sarah Bristol, two-penny girl...
And then he filed it all away and walked on, hands in his pockets, enjoying this walk through the cobbled and dirt-track streets. It wasn't more than twenty minutes walk, once he'd crossed one of the Ramsgate Bridge, and with his thoughts on the prospects of another job, and the pretty young widow he had danced with the night before. Lyttelton, that was her name. Pretty thing. He'd have to arrange to bump into her again at some point. And there he was, at the door of Eward's house. He lifted his hand to knock, and then had second thoughts. Why bother the staff from tending their master's delicate head? He could let himself in. And he did, moving through the garden of the house, finding himself an open window that led into the scullery, climbing through, and then calmly walking through the kitchens and servant's quarters tell he found himself in a rich, over-decorated hallway.

"Eward!" He called, "You drunk, where are you?"

Eward didn't usually get sick, so mornings after a heavy night drinking were simply remembered by a pounding head rather than leaving a mess for his servants to clean. Tangled up in the bedsheets in his room, Eward was very naked and all too sober for Harry's visit but it wasn't like the notorious Lord was going to move and make himself respectable. The woman he had slept with the night before had been promptly escorted out at six that morning so the poor man could catch up on sleep, he was so exhausted and she didn't seem to know the words 'Can't', 'Drunk' or 'Wait a minute'. It was with bleary eyes and a hoarse throat that Eward attempted a reply to his friend who was making such a noise around the halls. He hoped his sisters didn't hear him.

"I am in my room!" he yelled back, though stopped abruptly as his head squeezed in protest at the volume. "You know where it is. Be quiet."

Harry rolled his eyes as the weary, worst for wear voice echoed down to him, and he climbed the stairs, familiar with this route now, stopping a servant on the way, "Bring his Lordship and I a bottle of something up, won't you?" He said, and the poor maid nodded before running off.

He made it to Eward's room, deciding it was best not to knock, although the idea had appealed to him, before pushing the door open. "Looks like someone spent far too long in the Ambassador's wine cellar?" He said, moving into the room. "Don't you realise half the day is already gone?"

Eward blinked at Harry as he entered, lying on his stomach with red eyes, sheets dangerously low on his back and his black hair stuck up on end. Oh so graceful were the upper classes of England! "I did not... go in his cellar. I got his servant girl to do it for me," Eward said in strong protest, rolling over and placing a hand on his head to block the light filtering from the curtains. He couldn't remember anything past toppling into bed with the girl Harry'd sent to him, but everything before was clear as day.

"Sod it. What time is it?" he asked, sitting up with difficulty. He could feel all the blood rushing through his body and it was not a pleasant experience. "I am positively famished, is it lunchtime?"

Harry's eyes rolled again, and he moved to the window, pulling the curtains closed, "Near enough. Near enough." He said, moving them towards the bed, grabbing a chair from the desk and setting it at an angle to Eward's bed, settling down and putting his feet up on the mattress.

"Oh? And what did you go for her in return?" He asks, and then decided against it. "Actually, I don't want to know." He says, as there is a knock at the door, and the maid opens it, peering into the dark room, a bottle and two glasses in hand. "Good girl." Harry says, beckoning her in and handing over a coin in return. "His Lordship feels a little worse for wear. Will you bring his some breakfast, miss?" He says, and the girl nods, heading out again quickly. "Want a glass?" harry asks, pouring his own, "Best hangover cure around."

I am so, so sorry! >< *hates essays*

Eward noticed the white sheet, which had covered his modesty until now, was threatening to fall off his body completely and he promtply tugged it back up as Harry walked to the window. Not that he was ashamed of his body, and not that Harry hadn't seen him worse than this but the room was quite nippy and he thought it best to warm himself.

When the maid entered he was ready to dismiss her but then Harry spoke to her and he realised his friend had actually asked for the bottle to be brought. He gave Harry a dark yet amused look, his mouth drawing up at the corners. "To get drunk again is your cure? That is overkill, my friend... but I will take it right now, as nothing else appeals to me! The breakfast sounds nice, too. What are you here for, anyway?"

"Some of us know our limits, Eward. And some of us know them and choose to ignore them." He adds, pouring a generous measure for the other and holding it out to him. "A glass or two will take you up, and then you won't have to hide away in the night like a cripple." He explains, setting the glass down.

"I was sent for by your staff, who tried to wake you, but said you slept sounder than the dead. I have come to drag you out of this den of debauchery and take you to confession." Harry teases, face, however, blank as he studies the wine in his glass, "But as you are in an unfit state, you will have to confess your sins to me. Did you find anything of interest last night?"

Eward let out a blast of laughter, hearty and loud, and enough to make his headache scold him once more. He winced, but took a sip from the glass humming at the flavour. His mouth was dry as a bone. "So you mean to say you are as holy as a man of God?" he asked, raising an eyebrow as he peered at his friend. "Well I suppose, if I do need to confess, you are as close to a priest as I am going to get. And that is saying something."

Settling down as if he were a storyteller ready to recite a tale to a child, he swirled the liquid around in his glass, studying it closely. "You mean something besides that bit of scrumpet you sent me in the carriage? I did, in fact. One of the chamber rooms. I found a dagger with a pure silver handle, recently washed with a suspicious stain on the side. Several papers with warrants for random people's arrest, that was in an assistant's office. Oh - and the Ambassador's personal accounts, I believe." Eward's eyes lit up though he did not look at Harry, a typical sign that he had done something he shouldn't have. "He is spending far too much money than he can afford. Or he is, now, since I changed one or two figures..."

"As holy as most of them around here, Eward." Harry said with a smirk, taking another swallow. "But I'm sure I can absolve you somehow." He grinned, dipping a finger in his wine and flicking it at Eward. "In the name of the son, father, and a fairly decent vintage."

"I don't suppose you've brought that dagger to show me, Eward?" Harry asked, still looking down at his glass, not showing his interest. "And arrest warrants? No doubt there are several hundred of those things in that building. I wonder what names have been added to it since last I saw them." He paused, glancing up, clearly hoping Eward would elaborate.

"Is it his own money, do you think? Or his country's?" He asks, swirling his glass before taking another mouthful, "Now now, Eward. You shouldn't do thinks like that." He chastised mildly. "Are you going to admit it? Or only after he has been guillotined?"

With a snigger Eward nodded as if he were basking in the glory of the holy divinity. "Ah, Vintage - please forgive me for I have sinned!" he chuckled, before taking another gulp of the fine wine. He licked his lips as if he was trying to think of either witty things to retort or lies which he could cover up.

"No - why would I bring a dagger home? The only sword I need is covered up at the moment by my bed covers, and you be glad of it! As for the list, there may have been... a few additions, yes..." he said with a guilty look in his eye. "A few messages here and there. He is probably too dense to realise..."

With a rather cheeky snigger Eward hid his childish grin behind his glass. "Why on earth should I admit that I altered the Ambassador's accounts? I would be sentenced long before him! Slimy little rat. It is jealousy, and not his country's honour, that he is going after the rich. Greed, desire and selfish want... actually I'm beginning to understand him..."

In his youth Eward had known greed. He had also known jealousy, so much so that people had believed him to try and kill his brothers. It was never proved and the said people had promptly been disposed of. "Still doesn't mean he's not a pompous bastard that I cannot stand."

Edith was just now returning from the home of a man she could not recall the name of. But that did not trouble the young woman at all, as she found the look on the man's face, when he woke to find that the young lady he had been sleeping with was in fact not his wife, rather amusing. She paused in the entrance hall to request a glass of champagne and to inquire as to whether or not the whore her brother had brought home with him was gone.

With her drink finally in her hand she continued down the hall to her room, calling over her shoulder as she passed a maid. "Your breasts are hanging out, Miss Kitty, fix them," she ordered. She wasn't sure as to what the girls real name was and she didn't plan to take the time to find out.

Seeing Harry in the hall she smirked, as it was a familiar sight to see the man there. "Perhaps we should just find you a room here," the dark haired vixen said as she sipped at her champagne, only appearing to be half interested in whatever it was she had just said.

Harry bowed his head in greeting, she was, after all, his friends sister, and a wealthy woman in her own right. What he actually thought of her didn't come into it. "Miss Edith, good morning." He says, a smirk pulling at his lips. "I didn't see you at the Ambassador's Ball. You were otherwise engaged?"

The whole family were as bad as each other, really. Although that was Ewards fault, of course, he should be setting an example. "I've come to drag your brother from his bed. You don't have any objections, do you?"

I was wondering if you'd heard/read about Harry and the Mountford-Miles family? Did Eward's player tell you our plot plan?

Edith took another long sip from her glass before nodding. "Yes, I had important business to tend to," she admitted. Of course, there was only one thing that Edith would abandon a ball for and the answer of what that would be was obvious in the strong scent of men's cologne that lingered on her skin.

"Drag him wherever you wish," she said simply. "So long as he doesn't return in the company of another whore." There was a hint of jealousy in her dark eyes at the mention of her brother being with other woman.

I only read what was posted in the comments to Eward's first ooc post.

"Of course." Harry smiles, aware of exactly where she'd been, and who she'd been with. He wasn't paid to keep his eye on this happy little family for nothing. "Although many people missed your presence last night. Eward most of all. He needs someone to keep him in check, and you know how he ignores me." He shrugs, although there is a faint smile on his lips. "It was an enjoyable evening for you, at least?"

"Miss Edith! Would I allow your brother to do such a think?" Harry says, shocked and protesting. "You brother was not with a whore. I am sorry you were given that impression. He was, in fact, with an actress."

On the OOC community? Ah, so you know about them being half-brothers, and not knowing it yet? Parfait!

"Oh, yes," Edith said with a nod of her head. "It was most enjoyable." She had managed to ruin yet another happy marriage, something that pleased her almost as much as the acts that were required to do such a treacherous thing.

"An actress?" she questioned with a smirk. "And I suppose the two of them spent the night talking about the latest theater news?" Raising a brow she smiled darkly. Any woman who managed to find her way to Eward's bed was a whore in Edith's eyes, but she would never admit to the jealousy she felt.

"I am glad." Harry smiled. Eward, at least, was not such a nasty piece of work, or at least, he was more fun while being such. He was a social bastard. Perhaps that was why Harry liked him so much.

"You know I would never supply your brother with any woman that wouldn't satisfy or amuse him. But it isn't any of my business to ask how she has satisfied or amused him, Edith, you know that." Harry retorts, crossing his arms across his chest, not offended even if he thought she was trying her hardest to wind him up.

Edith sighed. "I do not think the question of how she does that needs to be asked," she admitted simply. She would talk to Eward about it later, as she often did. Of course she would do her best to make it sound as if she was approaching her brother out of concern for his behavior and not out of spite.

It was the prefect little world she had dreamed up, if only her brother would play by her rules. She could run around with whomever she wished to, while he remained alone at home. It all made perfect sense to the young woman who assumed the world revolved around her

"Personally, Edith, I don't believe any questions need to be asked. What your brother does as man of the house is completely up to him. I am only here to provide what he likes at that moment." He explains, smiling slightly. "Be it whores or dancing boys. I'm sure I could find you something you liked too, if you ever wanted to ask." He adds, wondering if the implication will upset her.

Abigail had been out in the gardens, tending to a few of the rosebushes that she had grown particularly fond of. She had heard Harry's arrival, but paid it no mind; if the visitor were for her, somebody was bound to come out and find her. They hadn't, though, and she was able to spend some time poking about her roses before trimming a bunch to bring into the house; they'd look lovely in her room. She was making her way back into the house, roses in hand, when she heard her sister's screaming and the door slam. She wasn't at all surprised when she turned the corner and found Harry.

"I should have known it was you," she said with a grin. Ambling over, she leaned up to greet him with a kiss on each cheek. "What ever did you say to her now?"

Harry allowed her to kiss him, his hand brushing her arm as she did so. "Me? Do anything to your darling, delightful sister?" He questioned, although he couldn't help the smirk that pulled at his lips. "She deserved it, anyway." He adds, shrugging, his smirking growing bigger. "It's always fun to tease her, isn't it?"

He pauses then, glancing at the roses. "From an admirer, Abigail? I thought I was the only man for you?" He said, his face becoming overly sad. "And I'd come all this way to give you a token of my appreciation..."

She couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head. "Oh, you are mean." Admittedly, it was amusing to see her sister get so riled up. "I refuse to answer that."

She looked down at the roses, blushing faintly. "An admirer? Not at all. I've only just picked them from the garden." She smiled, then, letting her hand rest lightly on his arm. "You should know that you are. There's no need for that face, love!" She brightened at the mention of a gift, but didn't say anything just yet, not wanting to appear too eager.

"Won't you even admit it to me?" Harry asks, still smirking. "Don't you find it the littlest bit entertaining? You must." He says, gently hooking his arm through hers. "You can tell me, I won't tell anyone. Not even Eward. Promise."

Harry laugh, bowing his head slightly, "You have a string of admirers, Abigail, even if you do not know it yourself. Now, those roses will need water." He says, fingers moving to lightly stroke one of the velvety petals. "Beautiful things, Roses. They suit you."

"Why do I need to admit it when you already know the answer?" she asked, smiling as he intertwined their arms. "Of course I do. Who wouldn't?"

"Perhaps I do. But you know I don't pay them any mind. I've only eyes for you, remember?" She was teasing as she said it, and she watched as his fingers moved to the roses, and she blushed faintly. "They're my favorites. I thought they'd brighten up my room."

"Because you should always tell me things. I always tell you things, don't I?" He says, leading her down towards the kitchens, where there would be water and some sort of vase for the flowers. "I'd never keep anything from you." Not true, of course, and Abigail knew that, but the truth at the moment was not so important.

"Only when you're not there, of course." Harry nodded, "They'd be hardly noticeable if you were in the same room." He grinned then, and then seemed to remember something. "Ah yes, your present. I'll have to give it you when we're done with the roses."

"Of course you do. And I tell you everything!" she exclaimed. Well. When he was around for her to tell things to. "You know that I'd do the same." There was, perhaps, a bit more truth to her words than his, but maybe not so much more.

"Perhaps," she conceded, her blush deepening. "You know you didn't have to bring me anything." She certainly wasn't going to turn it down, though! It wasn't long before they reached the kitchen, and she released his arm to reach up into one of the cabinets for a vase.

"That's because you're the smartest young lady I know." Harry responds, allowing her to slip from his arm and busy herself about the kitchen. "Does Edith know where to find vases, do you think? Apart from in hands of servants?"

"When have I ever visited without a present for my favourite young lady?" Harry asks, raising an eyebrow.
