THE FUNERAL
Subject: Lord John Wexley IV's memorial.
Where: The Wexley family home.
Who: Daphne Wexley
Warnings: N/A
Open to: everyone who would have attended the funeral.

"...Lord John Oliver Wexley IV was buried today, but his spirit will live on in the rest of us... Amen.." finished the priest as he crossed the grave and then there was silence for a few moments. The first noise came from Lady Wexley, letting out a bellow of sobs that was obviously for show but no one would dare confront her about it. Daphne stood in between her brother, Johnny, and Daniel Perkins, trying her best to hold in any emotions that were fighting their way to the surface. Tears streamed down her face, but she made no noise, simply stared straight ahead and made eye contact with no one.

The party moved to the Wexley's family home where the guests were able to meet, discuss, and remember the passing of a very important man. Refreshments had been set up next to a rather large painting of John Wexley IV. Plenty of chairs and sofa's and places for people to sit and converse. Though, the object of the after party was to uplift the deceased and speak about him, but like any other party, everyone had their own objectives as to being there.

Daphne stood at the picture of her father, holding the glass of wine that Daniel had given her, not moving. She didn't to move, show emotion, talk, eat or drink. Knowing, though, that her mother was pretending to be completely beside herself, it was up to Daphne to be the hostess. Thank God for Johnny, though. He took up most of the duties himself.

Unfortunately. "Yes. I am," he smiled, giving a brief nod to the man, omitting his rather surly first thoughts. "Well remembered - or indeed, guessed. I have not made very many social visits of late, I was wondering if I would be recognised. I doubt Lord Hurst would recognise me but I have some business to finish with him, things which my father never got the chance to do so, so forgive me if you find my company imposed on you in future. I am sure I am to like you, however Mister Hurst, as any man who can recite Shakespeare is certainly one of taste."

"It has been years, of course. Since before I went to university I believe. But I find it hard to forget a face," Charles said. Of course he kept any comments about finding Lord Blake to be handsome to himself. There was never a time or place for that sort of thing, and he chided himself for such thoughts occurring at a funeral. No matter their wandering nature, Charles felt his thoughts should remain respectful to the occasion. And they should certainly not stray to another handsome face, one cast in moonlight, that he would be hard pressed to forget. "I sincerely doubt that I would ever find your company imposed upon me, as I cannot help but agree with you on the subject of Shakespeare."

Christopher doubted he would have minded Charles' admission of finding him handsome. He was not as strict as some people were about 'those sort of things'. If he acted like it he would simply be a hypocrite; Heaven knew he got up to worse things than simple compliments with Charlot. "Then good! We have at least one thing in common," he smiled, finding his cheery tone out of sorts with the occasion they were attending. Lowering his voice he continued. "How did you find University? Was it as strict and sluggish as I remember it to be?"

Charles's smile broadened at Lord Blake's more cheerful tone. While everyone was meant to be respectful, he doubted Lord Wexley would have wanted them all to stand around discussing somber things in somber tones.

"It was strict, yes, but time seemed to pass more quickly for me there once I was accustomed to everything. I think I shall always miss the library," Charles said. Indeed it had been much more extensive than the one at home. Some day he would work towards expanding his own library, once he actually had one he could rightly call his own.

Christopher chuckled at his reply, nodding. He remembered that library well, feeling it was more of a home to him than where he stayed throughout his education. "Ah those books were old, dear friends of mine. I could not do without it - and so the first thing I did when I was able was buy the estate in Surrey which has the largest library I have ever seen in one household. I am quite sure they modelled it on a smaller house to fit so many books within its walls; you may come and visit it if you wish, but prepare to organise a search party for when you become lost in the maze..."

"Truly?" Charles asked, eyes widening at the description of such an impressive personal library. His mind could easily imagine such a place with bookshelves touching the ceiling and stacks upon stacks of tomes on every subject imaginable. "I should like that very much, thank you! Getting lost among books is an excellent way to spend an afternoon, I find. I shall have to tell my father of your generous offer."
