THE FUNERAL
Subject: Lord John Wexley IV's memorial.
Where: The Wexley family home.
Who: Daphne Wexley
Warnings: N/A
Open to: everyone who would have attended the funeral.

"...Lord John Oliver Wexley IV was buried today, but his spirit will live on in the rest of us... Amen.." finished the priest as he crossed the grave and then there was silence for a few moments. The first noise came from Lady Wexley, letting out a bellow of sobs that was obviously for show but no one would dare confront her about it. Daphne stood in between her brother, Johnny, and Daniel Perkins, trying her best to hold in any emotions that were fighting their way to the surface. Tears streamed down her face, but she made no noise, simply stared straight ahead and made eye contact with no one.

The party moved to the Wexley's family home where the guests were able to meet, discuss, and remember the passing of a very important man. Refreshments had been set up next to a rather large painting of John Wexley IV. Plenty of chairs and sofa's and places for people to sit and converse. Though, the object of the after party was to uplift the deceased and speak about him, but like any other party, everyone had their own objectives as to being there.

Daphne stood at the picture of her father, holding the glass of wine that Daniel had given her, not moving. She didn't to move, show emotion, talk, eat or drink. Knowing, though, that her mother was pretending to be completely beside herself, it was up to Daphne to be the hostess. Thank God for Johnny, though. He took up most of the duties himself.

Daphne was knocked back to life by the soft voice of Lord Hurst and she turned, hoping that her eyes and cheeks were dry so as not to look so foolish. "Thank you, my Lord. I hope that he would have," she curtsied politely and smiled as best she could to Lord Hurst. "On behalf of my family, I would like to thank you and Lady Hurst for coming, today. I'm sure my Father would have been glad to see everyone who cared so much for him."

Attempting to drink more of her wine, she put the glass to her lips but all she could drink was a sip.

Lord Hurst smiled gently, "It was our pleasure to be here, Miss Wexley, to honour your father. I hope you will forgive me for bringing Monsieur Laurent, but he is our house guest and it would not have been appropriate to leave him at the Townhouse." He says, voice still soft and apologetic.

"You and your brother have done exceptionally well. Your father would be very proud of the both of you. I hope you mother will recover quickly from this trauma. One as young as yourself should be be taking over the household responsibilities."

"Oh, it is no trouble at all, of course," she responded, spotting Monsieur Laurent and nodding. "He is welcome. The more the merrier, yes?" Silently she wished that this wouldn't have been the event to bring her home, that she could have seen her father atleast once more before he passed.

"Thank you. Yes, I am sure Mother will be fine. She has Johnny, Ella and myself to look after her now. I hope that Father would have been proud.. and I believe that Johnny has already stepped up and taken over the major household responsibilities."

"You are always far too kind of course." He explains, taking a small sip from his glass, feeling sorry for the young lady. His own father had died before his time, and how Tobias himself was feeling his age. He was, perhaps, one of the oldest guests in the room. "The more the merrier." He agreed.

"She has, and I'm sure the three of you will be more than a great comfort to her. Especially in the coming months. And I am sure you will all look after each other." Hurst replies, "Your father, I am certain child, is more than proud of you all. I would be, of my family, if they were half as capable as you at such a time.""

The truth was, Daphne had never felt less capable her entire life and was nearly in tears as he spoke about how proud her father would be. She was obviously good at putting on a brave face. Bowing her head, she attempted a smile, "Thank you, Sir. If you'll excuse me, I think I need to check on my Mother." She quickly curtsied and hurried off through the crowds of people and outside where she was gasping for air. Daphne felt as if she was being strangled, like she wanted to scream but nothing was coming out.
