Lord Hurst's Hunt: The Shoot, and after that, the Picnic!
Subject: Lord Hurst's Hunting Party; The Shoot and Picnic
Where: Bailston Abbey, The Meadow
Who: Lord Tobias Hurst
Warnings: none
Open to: All
The hunt itself had gone well- the beaters and groundsmen having flushed the three Stag from their hiding places in the thickest place within copse, and the hunting party had followed them through the sparser woods, until they burst from the thicket and into the meadow, the dogs going wild now they had freedom to chase their quarry freely, dashing through the long grass. It didn't take long after that for two of the three to be brought down, the dogs called back, and the third Stag allowed to escape back into the woods surrounding the meadows.
Laughing happily, as the grounds-men went to work on bringing the beasts back towards the House to be cleaned up ready for supper that evening, Lord Hurst turned Arvak around, to face his guests. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Well done! Now, for those of you who would rather settle your constitutions, there is a Picnic just this way..." He says, gesturing up over the rise of the hill, where the chairs, rugs, hampers of food and bottles of wine had been carefully arranged, along with piles of cushions and blankets, a quartette had set their places on a small podium, and had begun to play a relaxing tune that floated over the top of the hill. He paused then allowing those to dismount who wished, feeling not tired nor hungry himself, but eager to continue the morning's sport before taking lunch.
"But those gentlemen, and ladies, of course, who wish to join myself and my son in a shoot," Charles might not want to take part, he knew, but the boy was going to have to act as a proper host. It was, after all, a skill he would need in future years, "would like to dismount and come with me?" He smiled, and allowed one of the assembled servants take hold of Arvak's reins as he slipped from the saddle and took the proffered gun from the man. He turned around to Eward, grinning, "Now, my Lord, I would like to see how much practise you have been able to get in since you received my invitation. Not enough, I am sure."
