Welcome to the Yorktown Observatory Restaurant

Instead of the usual social gathering in the Deck Five Lounge, the Enterprise reserves a private room at the Yorktown Observatory Restaurant, which features food and drink from all over the galaxy and was built with all transparent materials, giving off the effect of actually dining directly in outer space.

The chance to socialize and dine in a place like this was one that Kate couldn't imagine passing up. Sure, she now lived on a spaceship and the Enterprise had a few places where you could stand and gaze out into the depths of space, but this was infinitely cooler. The sensation was a bit like the one she had gotten at the top of the Space Needle in Seattle or the visit that her junior high class had made once to the Windows of the World at the top of the World Trade Center. It was probably as close to the feeling of flight that you could get, a slight disorientation accompanying the adrenaline rush that the rest of her senses were signaling to the rest of her body.

Reaching out to brush her fingertips lightly over the glass wall, Kate wasn't surprised to find that the window was a bit cold. Space itself was subzero in temperature, but it still made the goosebumps rise on her arms. The red slip dress she was wearing wasn't really intended for the cold, the silk fabric already cool against her skin and the thin shoulder straps doing nothing to provide anything in the way of warmth. But that was why she had a husband who was always similar to a furnace in body temp. If she got cold enough, Kate would just convince Castle to help with that problem.

Glancing out again at the view in front of her, Kate smiled, absorbing it in for another moment before she turned on her strappy gold heels and walked to the bar to request a glass of wine.

The whole thing was quite overwhelming for someone like Mary who had never been up so high in her life. They did go in a skyscraper in New York once, but that was obviously nothing compared to outer space. She was just about getting used to the ship, but this place was so open that it made her feel a bit disoriented. Thus, she stayed close to the bar and tried not to look out very much.

Mary was also waiting on a glass of wine and she smiled at Kate when she approached. "How have you been?" she asked. "I am sure that you are happy to have your husband with you."

She had on a gown that she had made in the replicator, one that was probably too fancy for this place, but she didn't care. Mary missed wearing gowns.

How had she been? Kate had to pause for a moment to consider that and only came up with one word. "Busy," she replied with a laugh. Between working on the security team, planning a last-minute birthday celebration for Castle, and spending time with her husband there just hadn't been a lot of down time.

Not that she was complaining. The uptick in her work and personal life was far more reflective of how busy her life had been at home.

"Oh, he's alright," Kate said dismissively, though she was clearly kidding. Even though she was trying to hide her grin to sell her unconcerned expression, she wasn't doing a good job of pulling it off. Castle had been around for nearly two weeks, but she really hadn't gotten over her excitement yet. "How are things with you?

Mary was happy for her, glad that her husband had come and there had seemingly been no fallout over whatever had happened between them back home. It gave Mary a small glimmer of hope that her own late husband might appear. Was that possible? Did people arrive here back from the dead? It was something she would have to investigate.

"Mostly well," she replied, barring the incident with Lucifer in the lounge. That had shaken her up. But she had also spent some time with Kirk and that had been lovely. Was it a bad thing that she could go from thinking about Matthew to thinking about the captain in such a short period of time? "I have found a bookstore on this base with real paper books."

With a murmur of thanks, Kate took her glass of wine from the bartender, lifting it to her lips for a taste. She was usually very unspecific about what she ordered in regards to wine, keeping in mind where they were and that the selection might not always be plentiful. That had the drawback of Kate drinking some truly awful glasses of the stuff, but this one was surprisingly good and strong in flavor. Good enough that after a first short ship she went back in for a longer one.

"Oh that's wonderful!" she said to Mary, intrigued enough to want to visit herself. She didn't mind the digital library that the Enterprise offered, but there was something tangible and, well, beautiful about holding a physical book in your hand. "Did you buy any?"

"Well, Lucifer sent me a copy of Pride & Prejudice after...". Mary stopped, presuming that Kate knew. She was on the security team after all. "Anyway, I visited myself the other day and purchased The Great Gatsby, which is said to be a classic though it was written after my time."

Mary was intrigued to read it since it was about the period in which she lived.

Now that she'd had some time to gather her thoughts and memories and unravel them all from the jumble they'd been in when she woke up with six years' worth in her head, Leia was feeling more inclined to explore and get to know her fellow travelers. And the Enterprise crew. In fact, she was very interested in talking to them, see what she can help with, as she was unaccustomed to being lazy and not in charge or busy with strategy or fights or - anything.

She ordered a glass of red wine, the color a deep burgundy with a scent that reminded her, oddly, of home. Home being Alderaan. She accepted the drink and then made her way over to see waht food she might pick at, even if she wasn't very hungry.

Lucifer had to handle it to the space people of the future, they sure knew how to design a venue. He's have killed for such a set up for Lux, only without the having to leave earth and travel over two hundred years bit.

Glancing around he spotted familiar faces, but there was one he'd yet to properly speak with that left him intrigued. Yes, Kirk was young, but that suggested to Lucifer that he had a lot of drive and a desire to prove himself, traits he understood. Quickening his stride as he walked over to the man, he greeted him cheerfully. "Hello, Captain. Enjoying a night off?"

Jim looked up as Lucifer approached him and grinned. "I always enjoy a night off," he said, raising his bottle of beer - his beverage of choice - in greeting. Even though it wasn't really a night off. Sure, he was off-duty - he wouldn't be drinking a beer if he was on duty - but that didn't mean he didn't have his communicator with him, in case there were any problems or questions with the maintenance on the Enterprise. He told his crew he was always available if something came up, and he stuck to it. "Mr. Morningstar, please, take a seat."

"Lucifer, if you don't mind. Mr. Morningstar sounds like I'm in trouble." He paused. This was the Captain of the Enterprise after all, and Lucifer had just spent a night in the brig. "Am I in trouble?" he asked, looking at Kirk suspiciously. Even so, he sat down next to Jim. "Sorry about that, by the way."

"I'm sure a night in the brig helped enough so that you won't be doing it again," Jim said, though the corner of his mouth quirked a bit like he was trying not to grin. Truly, he was surprised it hadn't happened sooner, someone getting upset and causing damage somewhere on the ship.

Finding that only made Kirk all the more likable, Lucifer grinned. "Right. No more throwing tables around. Or anything of the like." He signaled for the bartender to drop by and then asked Kirk, "What sort of beer are you drinking?" That wasn't usually his preference, but he'd tried about everything else there was.

The Spider-Man found himself enjoying a late evening adult beverage, a rather strong smelling liquor that tasted far weaker than that, which was both disappointing and a relief. The nerd-turned-CEO-turned-space explorer was more than happy to enjoy this drink while seated comfortably at the large balcony that over looked Yorktown, and the surrounding space beyond the space station's rather large exterior 'windows'.

A sip, and a taste, he let it linger while he tried to contemplate his existence here and what to do next. So far it'd been rather peaceful, nice, enjoyable and he felt that that couldn't last. Not with the people here, the people who tended to find themselves in more trouble than not; further, he was here, and his luck spelled certain doom for everyone. What's more, he was also quietly a little bored without all the excitement of his other life. He was glad for the boredom, but annoyed that he felt that way at all in the first place.

Another long draught, and the stark red liquid found itself vanishing from the glass before Peter depressed a button to order another drink. The rounded couch he was seated upon welcoming another to join him.

Peggy fixed herself a plate of unfamiliar food - at least she tried to be adventurous in her eating habits since arriving in the 23rd century; anything here couldn't be worse than war rations or anything she ate while on the front lines - and picked up a glass of a light purple liquid over ice. She made her way through the room, greeting her fellow travelers, before spotting Peter sitting on a couch and heading that way. "Mr. Parker," she said with a warm smile. She gestured to the couch. "Do you mind if I join you?"

Peter blinked when someone approached and looked up, spotting Agent Carter and his smile brightened. He'd seen so many heroes, fictional and historical here, that he'd gotten quite used to seeing people he'd idolized in some fashion or another throughout his life. He nodded towards her, gesturing to the rest of the couch next to him, "I'd be an idiot if I didn't offer a seat for the lovely Agent Carter, or are you... Officer Carter now? I don't know the titles quite yet."

Peter laughed, and then raised a brow, letting her take her seat before taking another sip of his drink. He didn't know what she knew about him, but the fact she knew him at all suggested that she knew his file and he assumed that meant she knew more than most would. He'd let that come up naturally though. He was still a tiny bit protective of his identity, even if he was on a ship where his identity didn't matter.

"How goes space faring, compared to 1940's Europe?"

"Just Peggy is fine here," she said, settling onto the couch beside her and setting her food plate on the low table there as well. She sipped her drink hesitantly, unsure what its taste would be or how strong either. A pleasant licorice-like flavor hit her tongue and she sighed in relief. "Are you enjoying yourself here too? Been playing with any tech yet?"

She shrugged at his question. "It's become home to me by now," she admitted. "It might only have been a few months, but sometimes it feels like a lifetime."

"Quite a bit, actually. And yea, I've been playing with what the science crew will let me touch. They think I'm a bit too gun-ho to be touching anything that could blow up the ship, or a hole in space and time, but I think I'd be just fine with it. I'm also trying to get a blue shirt, you know... because I'm science crew," He realized that Peggy probably only knew about shirt codes and what not because of living here for the last few months, where as getting a blue uniform for him was akin to being given the medal of honor back home.

"Do you miss home, or do you prefer it here?" Peter offered, taking a long sip, the strong bitters working their way through his system, mixed with the sweetness of what he assumed was honey. Almost a mead.

He noted her hesitation with the drink, "Still getting used to a galaxy's worth of alcohol and food I take it?"

"I, for one, would appreciate it if you didn't touch anything that might blow up the ship," she said as she took another sip of her drink and then smiled over at him at the blue shirt comment. "I'm sure that once you finish your training they'll give you a shirt if you asked nicely." She pushed her hair out of her eyes and settled back into the cushions.

"I miss some things from home, yes," Peggy said. Howard, for one. Never would have thought she'd be missing Howard Stark. And definitely Agent Sousa. She pursed her lips together for a moment and sighed. "But I'm enjoying it here. I would have never expected - never dreamed - to have an opportunity to travel in space."

She glanced down at her drink and nodded. "I'm always wary of any drinks I've ordered since arriving here."

Loki | Open
[info]subtletrick
2017-04-09 08:37 pm UTC (link)
On the surface, Loki sits at a table alone, close to the windows, with a cup of some hot beverage between his hands, eyes fixed on the stars just outside. It reminds him of home, in some ways - of sitting out on the Bifrost, just watching the universe unfold infinitely before his eyes, watching the glimmers against the darkness. It was always a good place to think, a good place for peace, especially in more recent years when his brother had stopped seeking him out when he disappeared.

Thor. Not “his brother”. Loki’s fingers curled around the cup a little tighter and he blinked back to the present. The spaces between the stars here were wrong - too close, too far, too… different to truly be familiar. Loki had a very good memory, had spent a long time gazing at stars and committing them to memory in his studies - and he could not recognize a single one.

His thoughts were as an ocean tonight, storm-swept waves of thoughts crashing against the walls and barricades he’d created long ago, the ones meant to protect him from intruders and meant to keep him from bleeding magic and emotion out into the world around him. He and his mother she wasn’t his mother had spent days and weeks creating them together, when he’d first started learning to use his gifts, and then he’d spent even longer on his own, fortifying, because she couldn’t know how to pass them all, either.

They were holding, but he was not accustomed to the intensity of it, he was not used to feeling cold.

He was not truly cold - he could not remember ever truly feeling cold, and that-

-that was part of the problem, was it not?

Even the touch of a Jotun did not make him feel cold, at least not in a way that he could recognize as such. It wasn’t crippling, did not send his body into the learned patterns of hypothermia - he did not shiver and he did not feel tired or sluggish. If anything, it had driven his energy up, a frantic sort of energy that had only grown when he’d touched the Casket of Ancient Winters, still clung to him now, despite how perfectly still he sat, eyes fixed on the stars and mind turned inward, trying to come up with some solution to the raging sea inside him that could sweep him away and drown him.

Perhaps that was what happened. Perhaps that is why he had encountered two people so far who knew him, some other time and place, as a monster. Because wasn’t that what he was? Wasn’t that exactly what the fiber of his being was? Monster. It only made sense that he would inevitably break the shell of Loki and become something else, did it not?

How long would it take? How long did he have before he became what they were all afraid of?

Natasha was getting use to being in space. It brought a certain peace and yet danger with it all at once. So with the current location being a space station that looked like it was inside a glass orb, that allowed everyone to dock and explore. Saturday brought it's typical gathering but instead of being at Deck 5. It would be with the space station. Natasha came to it's location.

It was beautiful. The way the stars shinned all around, it was something Natasha had never seen. Her vibrant red hair would be tied back into a bun this time. Instead of her typical pants, Natasha oped for something a bit more feminine. She wore a simple low cut black dress and heels. Once stepping inside, Natasha had noticed a few people she had spoken with on and off on the ship.

But once face stood out. The trickster. Loki. But it seems he wasn't the Loki who attacked New York, or took Barton as his own mindless servant. So, just who was this Loki. Her slender frame came to walk towards his table, with an unknown drink in her hand. Once at his table she came to bring green hues to look in his direction.

"Is this seat taken?" She stated as she came to claim it and place her drink before her and have eyes watch him closely.

Loki was deeply involved enough in his thoughts that the arrival of another person to his table drew him sharply out of them, immediately rebuking himself for having been so lost, so distracted. Outwardly, it did not look like much - a slow blink, and a refocus of sharp eyes, a shift from stars to the woman before him, then down to where she had placed her drink. Back to her, then, and a thin eyebrow quirked slightly.

"It would not appear that it is, no." His tone was simple enough, deliberately neutral and polite, "Natasha, is it not? Please, by all means..." He gestured towards the seat she intended to claim. Her appearance was familiar enough from their exchange on the network - albeit a small and seemingly deliberately-cropped image, the hair and the facial structure were a match. Loki did not miss details.

He also did not throw around words where they were unneeded. As she settled in, he took a drink from his cup, his posture at-ease and calm, allowing her to lead the conversation wherever she wished. He would not direct this - not immediately. Not if he hoped to gather the trust of those who knew the maddened monster that called itself by his name.

After their brief conversation over the net, Natasha came to the conclusion that this Loki wasn't from her timeline, Which was a good thing. "What were you thinking?" She asked, as she noticed him staring off into space. Like Loki, Natasha was keen on details and reading people. Her frame sitting back in her seat across him as she came to take another sip of her drink.

Once the glass was settled her finger would run over the rim to let out that low pitch sound, almost music like. She didn't pressure him, or say anything of her timeline. But she did make sure to keep her guard up. With him, and the others. Once again, Nat took it upon herself to make sure no form of history would repeat itself here. On a ship in the middle of space.

Loki's initial reaction to the question was to go on the defensive. What business was it of this stranger what the nature of his thoughts were? How dare she ask him so casually, did she expect an answer, did she truly believe she had any right to such an invasion of his privacy? He was not obligated to share anything with her. His expression darkened slightly as he watched her watching him, though it did not go towards something outright dangerous, not yet. He sets his own cup down softly, leans back in his seat. His hands are folded in front of him, and he's the picture of casual and collected, except for the chill in his eyes.

"Nothing of much interest, I'm sure." The answer is sharper than his initial greeting had been, but still danced at the edges of politeness, of formality. "Tell me, Natasha, why did you seek me out? What, exactly, is it that you want me to say?"

Natasha came to give him a slight smirk. Her frame coming to sit up a bit more as she brought her hands to link on top of the table. She was aware her question hit a nerve. By the way the shift in his eyes came and the tone in his voice darkened for the moment. Soon, his own curious question came to her ear.

"In simple terms. We're from a different reality. I know you from a different time, like others do as well.. But you.." She replied pointing at him lightly with her pinky. "Seem to be from a different time. A time where you never meet any of us." She added as she thought for a moment. Green hues looking around before looking back to him.

"I'm sure you already know, that there is only so much a ship can take. Especially one in space. And neither of us want anything.. To occur." She stated as she came to push her glass to the side. Her frame coming to a stand as she moved to take a seat beside him this time. Mainly to keep his features hidden from anyone who might know who he is.

"So just think of me as... A friend, trying to make sure nothing happens to anyone on this ship because of the actions of their alternate version self." She said whispering into his ear. Maybe Nat was insane for doing this. All of this. But she knew the future. She knew what had happened and what could happen. So she knew this ship wouldn't b able to handle a battle of that magnitude.
