Lucifer was enjoying the tour, again, because the tour wasn't the ship and there was water. And plants. And something that resembled sun. Everything felt somewhat normal for a bit until Hawke went overboard.

He laughed as she shouted. "What the bloody hell does that mean?" he asked. The boat was passing her by and she wasn't swimming toward it. "Wait? Can't you swim? Try standing up!" he shouted back at her as they drifted away.

But his amusement turned to alarm when she kept panicking. "Oh bloody hell," he muttered, not even kicking off his shoes before he jumped in and swam over to her. And then stood them up. The water came up to his shoulders. "See? All good. Let's get back on the boat?"

What? Try standing up? What? She could barely hear Lucifer over the rushing sound in her ears of panic and impending death and would she end up at the Maker's Bosom this time?

She definitely couldn't swim, she'd never had to learn and if it were up to her she'd never even be on a ship, unless Isabela was dragging her somewhere. Or she desperately had to travel. "DRAGON!" She shouted again, as if shouting the word would turn her into one. Then she could just fly away from all of this.

Of course she didn't, and then Lucifer came swimming over to her like some dashing devilish hero, and... then the water wasn't that deep at all and she wanted to die. "If I close my eyes right now do you think you could pretend that you aren't here and this didn't just happen?"

Lucifer slipped his arm around her and started walking toward the boat, bringing her with him whether she wanted to go back or not. By now the boat had slowed down so maybe someone had thought to stop it. "Well maybe," he said. "Except now my brand new clothes are ruined so it might be a bit more difficult."

He glanced over at her, and he couldn't stay annoyed. "Not much of a swimmer are you? We should fix that later."

"Now I wish I was a dragon so that I could just... fly away from all of this crushing embarrassment." Marian noticed that the boat had slowed down, and was just honestly glad that no alarms had been sounded and that people weren't coming out of the woodwork to collect them.

There was the side benefit of being this close to Lucifer, even if he was soaking wet and obviously never going to let her live this down. She put an arm around him, using the excuse that she'd just been scared out of her wits as a reason to cling a little. It wasn't that big a stretch. "Never had much cause to swim, my first time near water was escaping... anyway, your clothes ARE all wet and wrinkling now. I suppose I owe you a new set."

"No use worrying about it," Lucifer said easily. "Hell, I ripped a table from the floor and threw it across the lounge and nobody's asked me about that." Of course his eyes had been glowing red and more than one person had purposely avoided him since then.

They caught up with the boat, and a few minutes were back aboard, with Lucifer not really paying any attention to anyone around them, focused entirely on the fact that he really should have kicked off his shoes before jumping in. He took them off now and wrinkled his nose at being dripping wet and out of the water.

"You ripped a table from the floor and I didn't hear about this?" Marian asked casually, on their way back to the boat. Since he didn't bother to remove her arm she kept it there the whole way, though she let go when they were finally seated again.

Marian kicked her own soggy shoes off and wrung out her shirt, "That's... twice now you've played the hero to me. I'm beginning to think a drink isn't going to repay it at this point."

"Oh you can repay me by buying me new clothes," Lucifer replied, not letting her completely off the hook. "Don't worry, there's a fantastic shop we can go to once I've changed."

For now, he was content to at least remove his shirt, and while it would have been nice to have a towel available he also had no qualms about sitting on the boat shirtless, his skin still wet, even as a few people watched him. Lucifer rarely shied away from attention.

With a body like that there was no real need to. Marian wasn't as lucky of course, because there were still laws everywhere about women running around topless. Also, she'd embarrassed herself enough for one day.

She didn't even bother to hide the admiring look she cast his way, "You know, you didn't have to take your shirt off just to make me feel better, but I quite like these little sacrifices you're making for the team."

As for buying him new clothes, she fished around in her pockets, "I hope my credits are still good. And that I have enough. Maker knows you probably enjoy your expensive things."

Though Ginny had kept to herself for most of the boat tour, she couldn't help but notice the woman that had fallen off the boat and the man that had dove in after her. Friends or something more than that, she didn't know, but the two of them were now sitting on the deck, their clothes soaked through from the water.

Normally, she would never pull her wand around Muggles for anything but self-defense or protection but Ginny was now living in a different sort of world where most people didn't seem to be afraid of her magical abilities. Even so, she kept her distance from the pair as she pulled her wand from the interior pocket of her jacket and with two quick waves the drying charm was cast, the clothes Marian and Lucifer were wearing now as dry as they had been before either of them took a swim in the river.

Grinning to herself, she carefully tucked her wand back in her jacket and turned to rest her elbows on the railing, gazing out to the trees beyond.

Lucifer sure couldn't have explained what happened, but suddenly his clothes were dry and he was back to feeling comfortable. Of course, that didn't cause him to put his shirt back on, but he looked over at Hawke and it appeared the same went for her.

"What the bloody hell was that?" he asked. "What just happened?" He looked around, looking for the source of that modern day miracle although he wouldn't caught dead calling it as much.

That had to have been magic. Marian could almost smell it, but glancing around gave her no indication of the source. There weren't any spells that just made you magically dry on Thedas, though now Marian wondered why not. Maybe she needed to do some more research when she got back to the ship.

Her fingers tangled up into her hair, and she winced a bit as she tried to comb it down. "I'm going to have a very long talk with the Maker about why it is I have absolutely no way to magically dry my own clothes. And... I see your shirt's still off. Please feel free to keep it that way."

"I think whoever did that just saved you some money," Lucifer said, reaching over for his shirt, but not putting it on. Instead, he just sniffed at it, and determined that it smelled clean enough. Given what that he'd been wearing the same few shirts for over a month, he could live. He also didn't want her to actually feel guilty. That was his dad's game, not his.

He did leave the shirt off, though.

"If it makes you feel any better I could buy you something nice to wear, anyway." Marian suggested, with a shrug. Just for curiosity's sake, she gently took the shirt from his hand and took a sniff of it, wondering what it was his nose was searching for. The water did have a sort of odd smell to it compared to what she was used to.

She shrugged, and handed it back. "I wish whoever'd helped had made themselves known so I could buy them a drink. Perhaps they knew I was already willing to crawl underneath a rock and die."

Lucifer looked over at Hawke, and then slid closer to her. "What's the use in being embarrassed?" he asked her. "Won't change anything."

He finally pulled on his shirt again, but left it unbuttoned. "Also I got to be a hero. Again. And I can tease you about it whenever I want," he added with a smirk. "Which, you want to be a dragon?"

There was a brief glimpse of oddly shaped scars on Lucifer's back, which Marian raised her eyebrows at for a second or so. He'd never mentioned them and she assumed the cause was something private. She remembered Fenris and all of his, and decided not to say anything for now.

Instead, she shrugged a shoulder at him, and then casually bumped her side against his, "I don't know, haven't you ever wanted to be a dragon? Alright, alright, the truth is we were rescued by a woman once who could shape-shift into one. Another Mage, but one that's so powerful she usually only exists in legend. And she wouldn't teach me the Dragon trick, and I was very cross."

Lucifer laughed. "No, that's never been on my wish list. Break free from my father, escape hell, those were. I did the latter a few years before I got here, but I'm still not sure on the former. Besides you don't need to be a dragon. You just need to learn to swim. And that's easy, if you don't panic."

He glanced at her and then at the rest of the boat. "Look, everyone's moved on. No one's paying us any mind now."

"Your father sounds like an arse. No offense, of course. I often wished to break free from the hell that was Kirkwall though, and then I ended up here. So I suppose I can't complain too much." Especially considering Lucifer's company.

She glanced around the boat, glad that all the attention was no longer on the two of them. Despite that, she smirked at him and said, "I'm surprised, naturally. You'd think a man as good looking as you would be worthy of attention, especially in this state."

"I could bloody well kiss you for that," Lucifer said, draping his arm around Hawke. She was shamelessly flirting with him, but it was referring to his father as an arse that endeared her to him completely.

"I get plenty of attention," Lucifer mentioned. "I'm alright without it now."

With the arm draped around her, Marian thought it was okay to do a bit of casual leaning against him. "Not the kind of man who enjoys the limelight? I don't blame you. I got more than enough attention before I arrived here, myself."

Then she added, after taking a quick breath, "You could, you know, if you were waiting for my permission."

Her tone was mostly teasing, just in case. A week ago they'd had the kind of tension between them that was so thick it could have been cut with a dagger. At the time they'd both been skittish for various reasons, and though she didn't know what his were she figured offering consent couldn't hurt.

"Oh, I rarely shy away," Lucifer replied. "But on rare occasions I do enjoy not being the center of attention. This is one of them. Especially after the table incident..."

Her next statement, however, caught him off guard, and he turned to look at her directly. "Drinks later," he said simply. He could bloody well kiss her now, and it wasn't for lack of interest that he stopped himself.

He wasn't ready to make that decision just yet and she should know why.

That sounded ominous, but this definitely wasn't the time or place to discuss ominous things. Marian nodded head a bit, trying no to make too big a deal out of... whatever it was. A private matter, she figured. She had enough of those to understand, at least a little bit.

"Drinks later, then," She replied, then flashed him a smile. "Until then, why don't we just enjoy the rest of the boat ride? Safely, from here. Where I won't fall overboard again."

"Oh you won't fall overboard again," Lucifer agreed, tightening his hold on her. "I mean, if you do, I'm not getting back in that water so I think it's best you just stay here with me."

He had no idea what pull Hawke had on him, but it was new and different and fascinating, and Lucifer was feeling much more at home now that he'd acted out, an edge to him that had been missing.
