Who: Mara Cunningham and Go`al 'enu
Where: The tunnels under the girl's dormitory
When: Noon
What: Mara decides to go out of her room
Only a few things had forced Mara to come out of her room. There was no bathroom attached, which meant going out into the hall. There were a few snacks in her room but she knew that soon she would have to go out to get food soon too. The idea would not have been so terrifying if it was not for the fact that it seemed every time she went out there were people, everywhere. Loud, nameless bodies that seemed to take up all the space around them. There were just too many of them and she did not know any of them. Daddy was not here and neither was Roger and Mara did not know what to do beside to hide in her room.
All morning she had been waiting for noises to stop outside. People made noise when they waked and talked and moved outside her room. Ear pressed against the wood she listened careful to hear anyone, anyone at all. There seemed to be a remarkable silence that had com over the hallway and Mara took this as a sign that the people were gone and she could go out.
Opening her door slowly, she poked her head out. There was a blissful emptiness that let her see the small bits of dust in the sun that hung in the air. Giving a long breath of relief, Mara left her room, shutting the door as quietly behind her as possible. Checking again to make sure that no one had stirred from the noise, Mara decided to go down. There were so many doors in the place and it was so much bigger than home or Roger's had been. Still, she found stairs and as she walked down them the echo seemed to follow around her in an odd way.
Going as far down as she could, she pulled the heavy door open and found herself in a hall with no windows at all. Walking inside, the door shut with a loud crack that caused her to jump, her heart speeding up at the sudden noise that echoed up and down. A few quick breaths as she calmed down, it did not seem like anyone was coming and that caused Mara to relax even more. Taking a true look around, she looked at the walls with puzzlement. Pressing her hand against the cool material, she tilted her head and wondered just what it was made of.
It was cold, white, and dirty. These walls looked nothing like any of the ones she had ever seen before. They were made out of some sort of stone that did not look like the brick she had seen. And there were pipes all along them, higher up than she could reach. It seemed like an odd place for pipes and she wondered where they went.
Walking slowly, her shoes clicked on the floor as she walked down the empty hallway. Lights were on in places and she wondered why they were on. There were no light switches that she could see. Someone's daddy was going to be mad at them for wasting electricity.
