Who: Ariana Scott & Xander Christopoulos
What: XANDER'S BACK FROM PRISON
When: Monday, January 19th, 2015
Where: Camelot castle
Warnings: Epically cute reunions

When they'd gotten word that Xander was coming back today, it was all Ariana could think about. For two months she hadn't been able to see him, to see for herself that he was okay. It had been torture. She'd visited him once before he'd been transferred into FBI custody, and after that, only family and his lawyer were allowed. To say that Ariana was freaked out would be an understatement. With the way the government was treating reincarnates these days, and after what had happened to her and her brother, there was no end to the terrible things Ariana's imagination came up with to torment her. But her worst fear had been that they'd find a way to lock Xander up for the rest of his life. Or worse. They already thought they had enough to hold him and drag out a court date.

But then, a miracle happened. She wasn't privy to the details, she didn't have that level of security clearance. All she knew was that somehow, Xander's case had finally been dismissed. Something circumstantial, missing evidence or something. Wasn't that how it usually went? Except Xander was innocent, Xander had always been innocent, and if she'd been allowed in a room with any of those FBI agents she would have done her best to charm speak each and every one of them into believing as much. But apparently those sorts of tactics weren't 'ethical', or whatever. Like she cared. The FBI and everyone else certainly didn't seem to care much about what was ethical.

She'd wanted to be part of the security team that went to get him, but she was the least trained person when it came to actually carrying weapons. That training exercise in that freaky jungle of weirdness had more or less proved that. Ariana had stayed behind at Lydia's request, but all the work she tried to get done in the Security department ended up being pointless. She couldn't concentrate. So finally, she took to waiting at the bottom of the stairs in the front hall of the castle, eyes trained intensely on the door for when Xander would inevitably walk through it. Every time the door opened and it wasn't him, she stopped half way through getting up and sank back down onto the step with a frustrated sigh. So when it was finally Xander and the security team that walked through those doors, she felt those familiar butterflies start fluttering in her stomach and Ariana shot up immediately to make a bee-line for them, her sole intent being hugging him for the first time in months. "Xander!"

He wasn't phased by the brandishing of Riptide, though he was maybe a little secretly impressed. Also relieved, to see that the current host of Percy Jackson was just as foolishly brave as his reincarnate. Hermes had a weakness for the demigods, whether it was for selfish or even the occasional selfless reason, he made a point to be there to lend a hand when he could. Much to his fellow godly colleagues' dismay, he was sure.

Chase, it seemed, had picked up a little of that habit. He liked the demi-god reincarnates. He hadn't met most of them until he'd called for all hands on deck to help get Xander his get out of jail free card, but he liked them. They were young and determined, and while Chase might look young, he wasn't actually. The eighty-six year old god of travel found himself a little envious of their youthful spirit, an admirer of the young as much as Hermes was, so of course he'd wanted to help Xander. Aside from the obvious fact that he was innocent, Chase wanted to help him because Xander reminded him of himself when he was Xander's age. It made him feel awkwardly nostalgic.

"Sir? Oh, please. Call me Chase. 'Sir' is just so... well, old." Which he was, but Chase wasn't about to admit that. As soon as Xander had re-pocketed his pen sword, Chase strode down from the hill to meet them, noticing that Ariana immediately grabbed for Xander's hand and stepped closer to him, a little strategically in front. That was sweet, Chase was glad to see that Percy seemed to attract the more assertive, strong female types in every life. Someone had to keep him out of trouble when the more helpful gods weren't around, after all.

Stopping at a safe distance still a few feet away so as not to make them too jumpy, Chase smiled a friendly, seemingly sincere smile and punched a button on his phone that was currently glowing a brilliant blue. It seemed to turn off, and when it did, it also grew three sizes into a long wooden staff with dove wings sprouting out on the top to reveal Hermes' caduceus, the symbol of Cabin 11. The green snakes, George and Martha, were of course coiled together around the middle. "I was hoping to find you after you got out. Wanted to make sure you were okay."

"Sorry, sir." Xander paused with a grimace before correcting himself. "Chase. Can't be too careful, you know. I've met a few angry gods." Like his father, who would have killed him had he had the chance every meeting they had. He didn't blame people who didn't know him personally for assuming Xander had killed him--when he was around the reincarnate of Ares, anger consumed him. But that was a side effect of being around Ares. He made you angry enough to start wars.

He squeezed Ariana's hand, thankful that she was there with him. Even though this guy was Hermes, he was always uneasy around the gods. They tended to be incredibly temperamental when it came to demigods, and he had no desire to end up a guinea pig. Again. Yeah that wasn't fun. Xander smirked, before clearing his throat and going back to a straight face. They, after all, couldn't hear Percy, so it would appear he was just smirking to be a smartass.

His eyebrow shot up immediately, however, when George and Martha were brought back to their natural form. So Xander had been right in his assumption that this was Hermes; that eased his nerves a little bit. In the back of his mind he'd had a little doubt about his ability to figure out who was who these days. Other than the incredibly public ones--like those creepy twins who were Zeus and Hades--he could never be completely sure.

"I'm okay," Unlike with Ariana, Xander didn't feel comfortable enough to delve in the different shades of okay with this guy who was essentially a stranger. "I've been through worse."

"Ah, yes. About that." Chase neglected to respond to Xander's answer of his question. He said he was okay, that was good enough for him. Chase didn't feel at all compelled to press or coddle, because despite Hermes' familiarity with Percy, he and Xander were essentially strangers. One could make the argument that he'd just gone to an unnecessary amount of trouble for a complete stranger, but that was just who Chase was. He didn't feel the need to stand there and play therapist, he was confident that Xander could sort things out within himself on his own.

He fixed both demigods with a more serious look, very obvious that he was preparing them for a lecture. "You know as well as Percy does that angering the gods hardly ever ends well. I admire your moxy, but I urge you to be more careful in the future. I don't know the whole story, I just happen to know how easy it is to break into an evidence room, but the extremely temperamental woman currently housing Hades went to a lot of trouble to keep me from getting there. Never a good sign."

Chase was very suddenly interrupted by what might have sounded like disembodied voices, if you weren't paying attention to the two snakes currently wrapped around his caduceus. He stopped short and hushed them dramatically, looking exasperated before turning back to Xander and Ariana, serious face resuming. He was probably less convincing than he wanted to be, but Chase had a pretty hard time staying serious. He wasn't like most gods.

"Sorry, that was rude. Anyway, where was I? Oh, right-" He looked between them both as sternly as he possibly could while Ariana shifted uncomfortably, but Chase was nice enough not to comment on it. He understood that being in the presence of a god was rarely comfortable, even if he was one of the more easygoing ones. "Point is, please be more careful. You were innocent. It was easier to justify the means. I'm not sure how it would go if you weren't, but we're not technically supposed to interfere."

Hermes had never been very good at keeping to that rule, and apparently Chase was no better, seeing as he'd directly interfered in this situation with Xander. Meddling was just too tempting, and they had a hard time saying no to temptation when they felt like they had a good reason for it. Chase was terribly impulsive, and a huge sucker for a good cause that way. Resuming a friendly smile, Chase winked at them and stepped forward, holding his hand out to them, but it was what was in between two fingers that he was offering. A business card that had Chase's full name, office telephone number and e-mail address on it. Also the title 'Agency Director of Public Relations' at the bottom, and under that, 'Owner/Founder of The Hermes Express'. There were animated wings on either side of it. "Call me. If you ever need something over-nighted."

Xander stared at Chase in silence while the man--god?--spoke, bracing himself for the lecture that would inevitably pick up judging by the first few words spoken. He'd gotten really good at picking up on the clues to an eventual stern talk; it was hard not to when your twin was the reincarnate of Annabeth Chase. Even so, the actual content of the lecture made him wince.

He'd suspected that a god had something to do with what had happened. It was the only thing that made sense. He didn't know anybody who would really report his father as missing, and for a while he wondered if maybe, just maybe, Topher had only thought he'd killed Rob Strange and that the reincarnate of Ares had done this on purpose to mess with him. It was no secret that Percy and Ares were enemies, which had made being the man's son all the more uncomfortable. Hearing it was Hades, on the other hand, made it feel like ice had plunged full force into his stomach.

So gods were just as touchy in this lifetime. And here he was without Poseidon to off-set his two powerful brothers--sisters? Awkward.

"So it was Hades then?" He questioned, trying not to grin as George and Martha began making noise and needed to be hushed. "I should've guessed. She's grumpy as all...er. Hades. Or the Underworld. I wish we called things 'hell' that sounds way more threatening." And then Chase was talking again, so Xander shut himself up. He was trying to take the advice about treading carefully around gods; he should probably start practicing with the god who didn't tend to threaten lifetime torture.

Xander nodded. He wanted to point out that that meant Chase liked them, and part of him felt the urge to tease him about that, but the self-preserving side of his brain quelled that urge with reminders of how awful prison was. Yeah, maybe he could learn to keep his mouth shut some. That seemed like a better option. He reached out to take the card from Chase, giving it a once over with a grin the widened the more he read. Yeah, this was definitely Hermes they were talking to.

"What if we want a Red Bull?" Okay so maybe staying completely silent wasn't going to work for him.

"I didn't say that." Chase was very quick to amend, because of course it was Hades, but Xander needed to get that out of his head right now. If he knew Percy, then Xander was at least half as stubborn, and there was no telling what the hot headed demigod might say or do when he wasn't bothering to filter himself. He liked the kid, but he really didn't want to have to try and get in the middle of a Minnie Pappas-sized temper tantrum directed at the child of Poseidon.

"Under no circumstances did I actually say it was Hades, or even strongly implied it. But you definitely pissed her off somehow, and I'd very much advise against doing so in the future, so you'd do well to just forget what you think I said and move on with your life." Chase fixed Xander and Ariana both with a stern look that was altogether flimsy at best. "Seriously, it's done. Just try and stay out of jail-sized trouble next time? That would be great."

Ariana let out an involuntary snort at Xander's Red Bull comment, which provoked a grin from Chase merely because as soon as it happened, her cheeks paled and she tried to cover it up with a face that was definitely not straight. It was adorable, and for a moment Chase wasn't actually offended that she still found him terrifying. Sometimes, there was just no amount of friendliness that would make up for being a god.

Chase himself laughed loudly, shaking his head as he backed up a few steps and his caduceus transformed back into a phone that he pocketed in preparation for take off. He could appreciate a good joke as much as the next - well. Next person, because honestly, most gods were tragically short one decent sense of humor. He grinned at the two of them, and gave Xander an informal salute. "In that case, I'll give you wings."

As if on cue, the winged shoes on his feet that hadn't been visible before began fluttering at an incredible speed and Chase shot up into the air, waving once at them before disappearing completely into the clouds. Ariana gaped, blinking several times as she watched him fly off into the sky and out of view. "... Holy Hera."

For a second, Xander had actually been tempted to tell Chase exactly how he'd pissed off one Minnie Pappas. It wasn't anything super scandalous; mostly he'd refused to be afraid of her and insulted her once or twice. It couldn't be helped, really. Sometimes gods just got such a high opinion of themselves that somebody had to bring them down to Earth, and apparently it had to have been him that time. Normally it was Luke with the angry determination against the gods of Olympus, but hey. Percy could get his fair share of quips in. At least Xander hadn't been running off with a Titan, right? He should've gotten some credit there.

Instead he'd kept mostly quiet, and grinned when Chase went along with his joke instead of getting huffy about it. Had he been Zeus or Hades, that wouldn't have gone over well. But Hermes had always been more mild tempered, the most human really, so as long as you didn't bring up his failure with Luke, you were pretty golden. He had a pretty good sense of humor. But he was gone before Xander could fully appreciate it, leaving him once again alone with Ariana.

"You can say that again," He huffed out a laugh, hand sliding through his hair a couple of times while he tried to come to grips with being face-to-face with a god unplanned. Well, an encounter that didn't end with fighting and jail time at least. "He should patent those shoes." Okay, that was a joke. But he was sure plenty of people would be interested in buying them if they could. Not that they would. Gods weren't really allowed to do that kind've stuff. Prometheus had been punished specifically for breaking that rule.

"Okay, this definitely tops out as our weirdest day so far this year." He was ignoring the fact that the year had barely started. The statement still stood.
