Who: Ariana Scott & Xander Christopoulos
What: XANDER'S BACK FROM PRISON
When: Monday, January 19th, 2015
Where: Camelot castle
Warnings: Epically cute reunions

When they'd gotten word that Xander was coming back today, it was all Ariana could think about. For two months she hadn't been able to see him, to see for herself that he was okay. It had been torture. She'd visited him once before he'd been transferred into FBI custody, and after that, only family and his lawyer were allowed. To say that Ariana was freaked out would be an understatement. With the way the government was treating reincarnates these days, and after what had happened to her and her brother, there was no end to the terrible things Ariana's imagination came up with to torment her. But her worst fear had been that they'd find a way to lock Xander up for the rest of his life. Or worse. They already thought they had enough to hold him and drag out a court date.

But then, a miracle happened. She wasn't privy to the details, she didn't have that level of security clearance. All she knew was that somehow, Xander's case had finally been dismissed. Something circumstantial, missing evidence or something. Wasn't that how it usually went? Except Xander was innocent, Xander had always been innocent, and if she'd been allowed in a room with any of those FBI agents she would have done her best to charm speak each and every one of them into believing as much. But apparently those sorts of tactics weren't 'ethical', or whatever. Like she cared. The FBI and everyone else certainly didn't seem to care much about what was ethical.

She'd wanted to be part of the security team that went to get him, but she was the least trained person when it came to actually carrying weapons. That training exercise in that freaky jungle of weirdness had more or less proved that. Ariana had stayed behind at Lydia's request, but all the work she tried to get done in the Security department ended up being pointless. She couldn't concentrate. So finally, she took to waiting at the bottom of the stairs in the front hall of the castle, eyes trained intensely on the door for when Xander would inevitably walk through it. Every time the door opened and it wasn't him, she stopped half way through getting up and sank back down onto the step with a frustrated sigh. So when it was finally Xander and the security team that walked through those doors, she felt those familiar butterflies start fluttering in her stomach and Ariana shot up immediately to make a bee-line for them, her sole intent being hugging him for the first time in months. "Xander!"

It was surreal finally being out of prison. It had been nearly two months of hell that Xander'd tried to sugar coat for his loved ones. While there was nothing they could do to get him out he hadn't wanted them to suffer more than they had to, and really, he and Percy had been through worse, hadn't they? Percy had been in Tartarus for Olympus's sake, Xander should have been able to handle a little prison.

The problem was, he wasn't just in prison. Just his personality and how he looked was asking for trouble in a maximum security prison. Xander wasn't the type of person who would thrive in a prison environment, and other prisoners picked up on that quickly. No, to make matters worse, he was a reincarnate, and word traveled fast amongst the damned that they had a 'disgusting reincarnate' among them. That meant two months of targeted abuse that he couldn't snitch about--he'd seen enough television to know that 'snitches get stitches' and him opening his mouth would escalate things. Besides, even the guards had their biases. The biggest reprieve was when they put him in solitary for 'his own protection,' but even that was torture. It was lonely, just him and Percy.

Worse was the doubt he saw in the faces of people who came to see him. It wasn't intentional, and it wasn't outright, but it was there. That small worry that maybe, just maybe, there was a miniscule chance that he had done it. That had been worse than the hate from strangers.

Now he was out, the bright sun blinding as he was escorted by a security team to the castle. Usually he was part of the team doing the escorting--especially if Daniel was going anywhere--so it was strange to be on the other end this time. He didn't talk much; he'd gotten too used to being quiet that he'd almost forgotten how. He was tired and wanted nothing more than to crash on a real bed and sleep for a couple of days, but all thoughts of that were pushed out of his head when he heard her voice.

Xander's face split with a grin, her voice breathing life into his stance. He no longer felt like a dead man walking, and despite a few objections--he'd apologize later--Xander shoved through his security team to meet Ariana half way. He hadn't stopped moving before he enveloped her in a tight hug; part of him wanted to kiss her, but would that be okay? He'd only kissed her once before, and then he'd been arrested, and then...was it still okay?

He pulled away, boyish grin practically breaking his face. He was skinnier than he had been, but that wouldn't last. Xander knew how to eat when food was available to him. He'd easily put the muscle tone and weight back on. "Hi..." He started lamely, and then gave up on words to hug her again.

There were definitely a few initial protests, but seeing as they'd just crossed the thresh hold into the castle and the doors had been firmly shut, Xander was as secure as he possibly could be. Lydia nodded at the rest of the team to let him go, smiling softly to herself as she and the rest of the security detail left the two of them alone for a slightly more private reunion. As private as it could be still being in the front hall of the castle, anyway.

Ariana honestly barely noticed anyone else had been in the room, because as soon as she and Xander reached each other, everything else just seemed to melt away. She could feel how skinny he was, even if she hadn't already seen him, and it just made her hug him even tighter. She was so relieved and so angry but mostly relieved and still a little worried, but he was here and he seemed like he was still in one piece so she put everything else aside long enough to just be happy he was hugging her right now.

It hadn't even occurred to her before that things with them were still a little uncertain. She knew how she felt and she was pretty sure she knew how he felt. He'd kissed her on his birthday, at least, but they'd been pretty rudely interrupted by some guys in suits. It's not like they'd had a chance to have the 'where are we' talk while he was in prison, and this seemed like a weird time to bring it up too so she hoped she wasn't out of line to do this.

"Hi," Ariana breathed, reluctantly pulling away from the second hug only so she could get a better look at him. She withdrew her arms from around his neck to gently take both sides of his face in her hands, her grin just as wide and idiotic as his. "I missed you."

Okay, so once they'd broken apart, and her hands were on his face, Xander was once again contemplating the possibility of kissing her. Being locked away for as long as he was hadn't changed his feelings about her--Xander still felt very much the same way as he had about her as he had on his birthday. And based on her signals, she still felt it, too. Finally, with a grin that could stretch no wider, Xander leaned in to kiss her. Risks be damned, Aphrodite could strike him down right there if he wasn't allowed.

In retrospect, he really hoped she didn't, though. It would be a little more than awkward to have your sort've-girlfriend's sort've-mom strike you down for kissing her. Especially if she was the goddess of love. It was weird enough when Percy had to deal with Athena on these matters. With no sounds of wooshing appearances yet, he was feeling pretty confident that he was in the clear. He wasn't getting pulverized by a goddess, and he'd gotten to kiss Ariana. Pretty awesome odds.

"Cliche to say I missed you more?" He laughed lightly, glancing around them at the walls and the ceiling. While Camelot was a lot more welcoming than his prison cell had been, he was still feeling cabin fever. He'd been locked up, and completely disconnected from the sea. It started taking a toll on a son of Poseidon when that happened. He knew it wasn't the best idea to leave the security of the castle without an escort, and it was ungrateful when they'd just spent so much time trying to get him there safely, but. Well. As long as he wasn't being arrested, he was sure he could handle any kind of attack that came his way.

He dropped his voice down to a whisper. "Do you want to take a walk?"

The kiss was expected, and yet so unexpected. It was like everything between them was suddenly shiny and new all over again. Ariana hadn't felt this light and happy in months. Xander was finally back, she could see him with her own eyes and touch him with her own hands. And more importantly, she could kiss him. Which she did, keeping her hands on either side of his face and kissing him like there was no tomorrow. They hadn't seen each other in so long that it felt like even longer to her now, and she wasn't wasting another second of it.

"Not cliche at all. At least not to me," Ariana smiled once the kiss broke, those familiar butterflies still fluttering away in her stomach. The happiness she was feeling was intensified the longer she held onto him, her hands dropping away from his cheeks and fell to his shoulders as she briefly rested her forehead against his. She was still smiling like an idiot, mostly because any worries over where they stood had all but disappeared as soon as he'd kissed her. That was all she needed to know, and she was just so happy he was back that she thought she might explode.

At his whisper, she nodded an eager 'yes'. As nice as it had been for Lydia and the security team to leave and give them some privacy, Ariana still felt like they were being watched. It wasn't a totally paranoid notion either, considering the castle was always full of people and you never really knew where any one person could be at one time. Eyes and ears were everywhere, and right now Ariana was giving herself permission to be selfish. She wanted Xander all to herself.

Before anyone could see them slip out, Ariana ushered them down a hall and out a side door that spilled into the courtyard. From there they would have an easy time finding a nice path to walk on. Once they were firmly outside, Ariana breathed a sigh of relief and immediately took his hand to lace her fingers through his. She was done being shy about this. "Come on. I think I know a short cut to the lake."

Xander would have continued kissing her for a lot longer if they weren't standing in the entrance way of the castle. Although Lydia had gotten the security team to give them some privacy, apparently not everybody got the memo. Just as their lips were parting, Xander heard a very distinct whistle, and upon glancing over he saw none other than Scott Morgan himself giving them both a double thumbs up while grinning like a loon. Xander blinked at him and chuckled to himself before he allowed himself to be led outside by Ariana.

The sun on his face, the crisp air? Yeah. Outside was definitely better. Xander took a deep breath in, relishing in a breath that didn't smell like the hundreds of other inmates and stale air. It was chilly outside, but it barely bothered him. The sun at least was warm on his face. He'd have to thank Apollo later.

"Awesome," Xander gave her a grateful look, his hand squeezing hers lightly as soon as she mentioned the lake. He would never stop being grateful for Ariana; even if the romance had only officially started, he was thankful at how much she just got him. Nobody else had considered that he might need to be near water right then--nobody but her. The water rejuvenated him all over, not just physically. He was sure that if he didn't have ties to land, family and friends he cared about, he wouldn't mind just living in the Ocean.

"Okay so, I might need you to catch me up on the last uh. Few months." He grinned at her sheepishly. "Give me all the gossip."

The whistling definitely didn't bother Ariana. She'd been a little too distracted by the fact that after two months, she was finally getting to kiss Xander Christopoulos again. It was ironic, since becoming a reincarnate she'd spent so much time being anti-Aphrodite and anything involving that aspect of her reincarnate's cabin and yet here she was now, completely over the moon about some boy.

Except he wasn't just 'some boy'. It was Xander. He was pretty special.

She'd made a face at Scott before they'd disappeared outside, and then her undivided attention was once again on Xander. She was just as happy to see him as she was intent on making him feel as comfortable as she possibly could right now. He'd just spent two months behind bars, there was no amount of empathy that could even begin to understand that experience unless you'd been through it yourself. Ariana didn't know what that was like. The one thing she did know? Was that Xander would feel a whole lot better once they were near a body of water.

Ariana smiled at him and squeezed back, only looking away to make sure they were walking in the right direction. If there had been any lingering doubts about the nature of their relationship before, those had all but dissolved with that kiss and the way he was holding her hand. She was happy enough that she thought she might be able to fly to the moon and back, but if that meant letting go of him, there's no way she would do it. Jesus, Ariana. Sap, much?

"All the gossip?" Ariana laughed softly, shielding her eyes against the sunlight to look farther ahead before giving him a small shrug and leaned her head lightly on his shoulder as they walked. "Honestly, it was pretty quiet... Nothing really happened. Nothing big, anyway. There were a couple Jets vs. the Sharks style fights between our resident Westeros members and some weird Argentinian ambassador guy on the boards. Pretty standard."

Gods, the sun felt good. Xander's thoughts kept coming back to that as they walked. It felt good to have physical contact with somebody without being yelled at; every time his siblings came to visit their hugging was regulated like he was about to off his siblings right there in the visitation room in front of the guards. He'd started to feel like a leper in there; not allowed to be touched by his friends and family, and either given a wide birth or punched by the prison population. It wasn't exactly a warm atmosphere.

"Really?" Xander grinned, trying to imagine the battle. It'd happened once before and he'd been grossly invested in that conversation on the boards like it was a soap opera on tv unraveling. He was a little disappointed he had missed round two. "Who won? Cause that ambassador guy had some pretty slick words. He found every loophole last time." ...Okay yeah. He'd just admitted to following the first fight. That was a little pathetic.

He cleared his throat and turned his head to kiss her forehead. Maybe that would distract her from his admission enough that they could move onto another topic of conversation instead of dwelling on Xander's embarrassing internet habits. Percy was laughing at him without mercy, causing Xander's nose to scrunch up at the loud noise. He loved having Percy around, but sometimes the guy was loud and just not on his side.

"Oh, hey. So I know how to make weapons out of common objects now," Xander teased. It was easier to make jokes about what had happened to him than to take it seriously. Especially when he just wanted to move on and forget about the time of torture in that place. "I make an excellent shiv out of a toothbrush, and apparently mattress springs can be deadly. Who knew?"

Ariana smiled at his admission but she didn't make fun of him for it. One of the reasons she liked Xander so much was because he could find joy in the little things. He liked to have fun, and she'd been so terrified that these last two months were going to squash that light out of him. It hadn't seemed to. Of course, maybe he was putting up a good front, but looking at him more closely... she couldn't really see anything to immediately worry about. Maybe he really would be okay.

That kiss to her forehead definitely did distract her, even if it was only for a few blissful seconds. She wrapped her arms around him at the waist and squeezed, happier than she could properly verbalize in the moment. So she let the moment pass and just tried to concentrate on where they were going. Which was... wait, which way were they supposed to go again? Ariana frowned in momentary confusion, mad at herself that she'd already gotten them lost on Camelot grounds. That was embarrassing. Xander didn't seem to notice, though, so she just pretended like she still knew where they were going and picked a direction. Eventually they'd find it. Camelot grounds couldn't be that big, could they?

"You'll be an even bigger asset to the security department now. Who needs to protect the leader of Camelot with crazy demigod powers when you've got a toothbrush shiv?" Ariana smiled, able to joke with him even if she privately didn't find it all that funny. She knew he needed to joke, so she went along with it. Still, she couldn't not ask at least once, nudging him gently with her shoulder as they walked. Ariana hadn't been privy to all the details of Xander's arrest or his charges, but she knew enough that she was worried it might not be over. "So... you're okay? I mean. Everything's okay now?"

Prison sucked, and Xander would never claim it was an experience he wanted to repeat. While he was in there he was miserable, and treated awfully, and of course he wasn't completely 100% just because he was out. But he'd been through a lot in his life, and if there was one thing Xander could take, it was personal pain. It was harder for him to deal with others getting hurt--his parents dying, his aunt and uncle, Elena leaving--but this? He could handle this. He'd eventually be okay again. Percy gave him strength, and while he'd never admit it out loud, he had a little strength of his own as well.

If they were lost, he wouldn't have minded. Xander was enjoying the walk enough that an extra long journey to gather their bearings and find the water would've been a blessing. It was nice not being surrounded by people--prisoners or allies transporting him home--and actually having a peaceful moment with just Ariana. It would never be quiet amongst them because the two of them were just too chatty for that, but it was relaxing all the same.

"I know, right? Nobody ever escapes the toothbrush shiv," Xander snickered. It was true. Even he'd been a victim of the toothbrush shiv, but his reflexes and faster healing had saved him in that pickle. Still, he could joke about it. The idea of using that weapon outside of a prison setting was so ludicrous that he started to laugh, using his free hand to knuckle tears of mirth from the corners of his eyes.

Her question didn't throw him as much as it should have. If it had been somebody else asking, it probably would have. From her it seemed natural; he didn't have to keep up some strong facade. He could admit there were cracks in the armor and she wouldn't judge him, or look at him like he was a wounded dog, or with guilt. "Yeah, I'm okay," He nodded, chewing on the inside of his cheek. "Not perfect, but I'm okay. I've been through worse." He shrugged. "Kind've sucks how much people hate us though."

Unknown to Xander and Ariana, their little jaunt around the castle grounds had taken them much farther than they expected. Eventually taking them just outside of Camelot's borders themselves, and though they might not have noticed the change in magic, someone else noticed that he could suddenly sense Xander Christopoulos on his radar again.

If they had just kept walking a little further to the right, they would have reached the lake and still been inside Camelot's well-protected borders. Chase wouldn't have been able to find them. Luckily, they'd wandered far enough that the moment Xander stepped outside the ground's magical, very invisible shields, Chase got a notification on his phone. Technology was amazing these days.

While Xander and Ariana were still talking, Chase chose that moment to make himself known by coming in on a gust of strong wind that might have felt like a sudden and very brief tornado. Once the winds died down, Chase was standing on top of a small hill just ten feet from them, caduceus in hand in the shape of a phone. He was squinting at it, but when he spoke, he was speaking to them. He hadn't meant to listen in on their conversation, but they had been talking rather loudly. "People hate us? Please. They're all just jealous."

The gust of wind that reverberated around them was out of place enough to cause Xander, who was calm and relaxed just a moment ago, to react almost immediately. He'd let go of Ariana in favor of ripping out Riptide, the pen uncapping to unleash the hidden celestial bronze sword underneath. When he'd first been booked at the prison, they'd taken the pen from him only to have it continuously reappear in his pocket. They didn't understand it was the same pen each time they confiscated it, which led to a few stints in isolation for not giving up who was getting it for him.

"Oh gods," Xander took a deep breath when he realized it wasn't anybody who was a danger to him and Ariana. Sure, Hermes was a god, but he was one of the milder one. And based on what he was holding, that's exactly who he was assuming this was. Besides, he'd seen him on the boards, but recognizing him that way felt a little bit like stalking. He slowly put the sword away, tucking it away carefully in his pocket.

In spite of this, he kept his distance from Chase. Gods were weird sometimes about respect, so he'd learned early on to wait for an invitation to do anything around them--even just simply moving closer to them. He gave Chase a half-smile, before running his hand nervously through his messy blond hair. The last time he'd had an interaction with a god, he'd pissed off Hades. Not exactly a good track record.

"Guess their jealousy is the violent kind," Xander shrugged. "Er. Hi...sir..."

He wasn't phased by the brandishing of Riptide, though he was maybe a little secretly impressed. Also relieved, to see that the current host of Percy Jackson was just as foolishly brave as his reincarnate. Hermes had a weakness for the demigods, whether it was for selfish or even the occasional selfless reason, he made a point to be there to lend a hand when he could. Much to his fellow godly colleagues' dismay, he was sure.

Chase, it seemed, had picked up a little of that habit. He liked the demi-god reincarnates. He hadn't met most of them until he'd called for all hands on deck to help get Xander his get out of jail free card, but he liked them. They were young and determined, and while Chase might look young, he wasn't actually. The eighty-six year old god of travel found himself a little envious of their youthful spirit, an admirer of the young as much as Hermes was, so of course he'd wanted to help Xander. Aside from the obvious fact that he was innocent, Chase wanted to help him because Xander reminded him of himself when he was Xander's age. It made him feel awkwardly nostalgic.

"Sir? Oh, please. Call me Chase. 'Sir' is just so... well, old." Which he was, but Chase wasn't about to admit that. As soon as Xander had re-pocketed his pen sword, Chase strode down from the hill to meet them, noticing that Ariana immediately grabbed for Xander's hand and stepped closer to him, a little strategically in front. That was sweet, Chase was glad to see that Percy seemed to attract the more assertive, strong female types in every life. Someone had to keep him out of trouble when the more helpful gods weren't around, after all.

Stopping at a safe distance still a few feet away so as not to make them too jumpy, Chase smiled a friendly, seemingly sincere smile and punched a button on his phone that was currently glowing a brilliant blue. It seemed to turn off, and when it did, it also grew three sizes into a long wooden staff with dove wings sprouting out on the top to reveal Hermes' caduceus, the symbol of Cabin 11. The green snakes, George and Martha, were of course coiled together around the middle. "I was hoping to find you after you got out. Wanted to make sure you were okay."

"Sorry, sir." Xander paused with a grimace before correcting himself. "Chase. Can't be too careful, you know. I've met a few angry gods." Like his father, who would have killed him had he had the chance every meeting they had. He didn't blame people who didn't know him personally for assuming Xander had killed him--when he was around the reincarnate of Ares, anger consumed him. But that was a side effect of being around Ares. He made you angry enough to start wars.

He squeezed Ariana's hand, thankful that she was there with him. Even though this guy was Hermes, he was always uneasy around the gods. They tended to be incredibly temperamental when it came to demigods, and he had no desire to end up a guinea pig. Again. Yeah that wasn't fun. Xander smirked, before clearing his throat and going back to a straight face. They, after all, couldn't hear Percy, so it would appear he was just smirking to be a smartass.

His eyebrow shot up immediately, however, when George and Martha were brought back to their natural form. So Xander had been right in his assumption that this was Hermes; that eased his nerves a little bit. In the back of his mind he'd had a little doubt about his ability to figure out who was who these days. Other than the incredibly public ones--like those creepy twins who were Zeus and Hades--he could never be completely sure.

"I'm okay," Unlike with Ariana, Xander didn't feel comfortable enough to delve in the different shades of okay with this guy who was essentially a stranger. "I've been through worse."

"Ah, yes. About that." Chase neglected to respond to Xander's answer of his question. He said he was okay, that was good enough for him. Chase didn't feel at all compelled to press or coddle, because despite Hermes' familiarity with Percy, he and Xander were essentially strangers. One could make the argument that he'd just gone to an unnecessary amount of trouble for a complete stranger, but that was just who Chase was. He didn't feel the need to stand there and play therapist, he was confident that Xander could sort things out within himself on his own.

He fixed both demigods with a more serious look, very obvious that he was preparing them for a lecture. "You know as well as Percy does that angering the gods hardly ever ends well. I admire your moxy, but I urge you to be more careful in the future. I don't know the whole story, I just happen to know how easy it is to break into an evidence room, but the extremely temperamental woman currently housing Hades went to a lot of trouble to keep me from getting there. Never a good sign."

Chase was very suddenly interrupted by what might have sounded like disembodied voices, if you weren't paying attention to the two snakes currently wrapped around his caduceus. He stopped short and hushed them dramatically, looking exasperated before turning back to Xander and Ariana, serious face resuming. He was probably less convincing than he wanted to be, but Chase had a pretty hard time staying serious. He wasn't like most gods.

"Sorry, that was rude. Anyway, where was I? Oh, right-" He looked between them both as sternly as he possibly could while Ariana shifted uncomfortably, but Chase was nice enough not to comment on it. He understood that being in the presence of a god was rarely comfortable, even if he was one of the more easygoing ones. "Point is, please be more careful. You were innocent. It was easier to justify the means. I'm not sure how it would go if you weren't, but we're not technically supposed to interfere."

Hermes had never been very good at keeping to that rule, and apparently Chase was no better, seeing as he'd directly interfered in this situation with Xander. Meddling was just too tempting, and they had a hard time saying no to temptation when they felt like they had a good reason for it. Chase was terribly impulsive, and a huge sucker for a good cause that way. Resuming a friendly smile, Chase winked at them and stepped forward, holding his hand out to them, but it was what was in between two fingers that he was offering. A business card that had Chase's full name, office telephone number and e-mail address on it. Also the title 'Agency Director of Public Relations' at the bottom, and under that, 'Owner/Founder of The Hermes Express'. There were animated wings on either side of it. "Call me. If you ever need something over-nighted."

Xander stared at Chase in silence while the man--god?--spoke, bracing himself for the lecture that would inevitably pick up judging by the first few words spoken. He'd gotten really good at picking up on the clues to an eventual stern talk; it was hard not to when your twin was the reincarnate of Annabeth Chase. Even so, the actual content of the lecture made him wince.

He'd suspected that a god had something to do with what had happened. It was the only thing that made sense. He didn't know anybody who would really report his father as missing, and for a while he wondered if maybe, just maybe, Topher had only thought he'd killed Rob Strange and that the reincarnate of Ares had done this on purpose to mess with him. It was no secret that Percy and Ares were enemies, which had made being the man's son all the more uncomfortable. Hearing it was Hades, on the other hand, made it feel like ice had plunged full force into his stomach.

So gods were just as touchy in this lifetime. And here he was without Poseidon to off-set his two powerful brothers--sisters? Awkward.

"So it was Hades then?" He questioned, trying not to grin as George and Martha began making noise and needed to be hushed. "I should've guessed. She's grumpy as all...er. Hades. Or the Underworld. I wish we called things 'hell' that sounds way more threatening." And then Chase was talking again, so Xander shut himself up. He was trying to take the advice about treading carefully around gods; he should probably start practicing with the god who didn't tend to threaten lifetime torture.

Xander nodded. He wanted to point out that that meant Chase liked them, and part of him felt the urge to tease him about that, but the self-preserving side of his brain quelled that urge with reminders of how awful prison was. Yeah, maybe he could learn to keep his mouth shut some. That seemed like a better option. He reached out to take the card from Chase, giving it a once over with a grin the widened the more he read. Yeah, this was definitely Hermes they were talking to.

"What if we want a Red Bull?" Okay so maybe staying completely silent wasn't going to work for him.

"I didn't say that." Chase was very quick to amend, because of course it was Hades, but Xander needed to get that out of his head right now. If he knew Percy, then Xander was at least half as stubborn, and there was no telling what the hot headed demigod might say or do when he wasn't bothering to filter himself. He liked the kid, but he really didn't want to have to try and get in the middle of a Minnie Pappas-sized temper tantrum directed at the child of Poseidon.

"Under no circumstances did I actually say it was Hades, or even strongly implied it. But you definitely pissed her off somehow, and I'd very much advise against doing so in the future, so you'd do well to just forget what you think I said and move on with your life." Chase fixed Xander and Ariana both with a stern look that was altogether flimsy at best. "Seriously, it's done. Just try and stay out of jail-sized trouble next time? That would be great."

Ariana let out an involuntary snort at Xander's Red Bull comment, which provoked a grin from Chase merely because as soon as it happened, her cheeks paled and she tried to cover it up with a face that was definitely not straight. It was adorable, and for a moment Chase wasn't actually offended that she still found him terrifying. Sometimes, there was just no amount of friendliness that would make up for being a god.

Chase himself laughed loudly, shaking his head as he backed up a few steps and his caduceus transformed back into a phone that he pocketed in preparation for take off. He could appreciate a good joke as much as the next - well. Next person, because honestly, most gods were tragically short one decent sense of humor. He grinned at the two of them, and gave Xander an informal salute. "In that case, I'll give you wings."

As if on cue, the winged shoes on his feet that hadn't been visible before began fluttering at an incredible speed and Chase shot up into the air, waving once at them before disappearing completely into the clouds. Ariana gaped, blinking several times as she watched him fly off into the sky and out of view. "... Holy Hera."

For a second, Xander had actually been tempted to tell Chase exactly how he'd pissed off one Minnie Pappas. It wasn't anything super scandalous; mostly he'd refused to be afraid of her and insulted her once or twice. It couldn't be helped, really. Sometimes gods just got such a high opinion of themselves that somebody had to bring them down to Earth, and apparently it had to have been him that time. Normally it was Luke with the angry determination against the gods of Olympus, but hey. Percy could get his fair share of quips in. At least Xander hadn't been running off with a Titan, right? He should've gotten some credit there.

Instead he'd kept mostly quiet, and grinned when Chase went along with his joke instead of getting huffy about it. Had he been Zeus or Hades, that wouldn't have gone over well. But Hermes had always been more mild tempered, the most human really, so as long as you didn't bring up his failure with Luke, you were pretty golden. He had a pretty good sense of humor. But he was gone before Xander could fully appreciate it, leaving him once again alone with Ariana.

"You can say that again," He huffed out a laugh, hand sliding through his hair a couple of times while he tried to come to grips with being face-to-face with a god unplanned. Well, an encounter that didn't end with fighting and jail time at least. "He should patent those shoes." Okay, that was a joke. But he was sure plenty of people would be interested in buying them if they could. Not that they would. Gods weren't really allowed to do that kind've stuff. Prometheus had been punished specifically for breaking that rule.

"Okay, this definitely tops out as our weirdest day so far this year." He was ignoring the fact that the year had barely started. The statement still stood.
