The kiss was expected, and yet so unexpected. It was like everything between them was suddenly shiny and new all over again. Ariana hadn't felt this light and happy in months. Xander was finally back, she could see him with her own eyes and touch him with her own hands. And more importantly, she could kiss him. Which she did, keeping her hands on either side of his face and kissing him like there was no tomorrow. They hadn't seen each other in so long that it felt like even longer to her now, and she wasn't wasting another second of it.
"Not cliche at all. At least not to me," Ariana smiled once the kiss broke, those familiar butterflies still fluttering away in her stomach. The happiness she was feeling was intensified the longer she held onto him, her hands dropping away from his cheeks and fell to his shoulders as she briefly rested her forehead against his. She was still smiling like an idiot, mostly because any worries over where they stood had all but disappeared as soon as he'd kissed her. That was all she needed to know, and she was just so happy he was back that she thought she might explode.
At his whisper, she nodded an eager 'yes'. As nice as it had been for Lydia and the security team to leave and give them some privacy, Ariana still felt like they were being watched. It wasn't a totally paranoid notion either, considering the castle was always full of people and you never really knew where any one person could be at one time. Eyes and ears were everywhere, and right now Ariana was giving herself permission to be selfish. She wanted Xander all to herself.
Before anyone could see them slip out, Ariana ushered them down a hall and out a side door that spilled into the courtyard. From there they would have an easy time finding a nice path to walk on. Once they were firmly outside, Ariana breathed a sigh of relief and immediately took his hand to lace her fingers through his. She was done being shy about this. "Come on. I think I know a short cut to the lake."
