Justin had been planning this surprise party for Lillie for over a week. Which mostly meant inviting all the guests, making sure Cassie didn't open her big mouth to spoil the surprise beforehand, and getting the Roadhouse in order for a private party full of hunters & co. Considering Harvelle's Roadhouse was used to housing groups of surly, trigger happy drunks you wouldn't think that would take much work, but in the absence of people to help run the place like Ellen and Ash? It took Justin a little longer than it would have otherwise. Jo still missed her mom like crazy but she was dealing, just like Justin was dealing with the sudden and pretty prolonged absences of his own mother since the divorce. Having another group of people to call family helped. Justin still had his dad and his sister, but Cassie and Lillie? They were his other family. Even Marshall, who Justin still didn't know all that well yet, but he was the reincarnate of Bobby Singer and that spoke volumes where the hunter in Justin's head was concerned.
Tonight was Lillie's birthday, and Justin wanted everything to be perfect. He'd put up some decorative lights around the tables and turned the Jukebox on for the birthday girl's choice of musical entertainment. The bar was fully stocked and there was some food out, though it was really just for snacking. Typical hunters, when they got together to celebrate they usually just drank their weight in booze and saved the bare minimum room in their stomachs for food. It's how they rolled. Justin had lined up a row of shot glasses and beer steins along the bar counter and put bowls of snack food in between, subtly encouraging people to eat so they didn't end the night by puking their guts out but not requiring it. He'd also invited some guests outside the hunter's club - mostly family members like Lillie's brother and his girlfriend, Cassie's brothers as well as Stella and her perpetually awkward boyfriend. He could have invited more but if there was one thing Justin and Jo had learned about gathering a bunch of hunters all in one place, it was that you were just asking for demon trouble. Everyone on the guest list understood that about Lillie and her crew, there was no need to invite in any actual outsiders to their particular brand of crazy.
At exactly seven o'clock on the dot, Cassie's job was to lure Lillie to the Roadhouse under the pretense that they were meeting Justin here for drinks and some good old fashioned hunter roulette. Which, to be honest, could very well still be what this night turned into, but that was besides the point. As soon as Cassie brought Lillie in the door, everyone at the party jumped out of their hiding spots and screamed those cliche phrases like 'Surprise!' and 'Happy birthday!', with the exception of Justin who simply walked up to his girlfriend of now twenty-two to greet her with a kiss and a beer. By all accounts this was probably the cheesiest thing they'd ever done as a group, but considering everything that had happened lately, Justin didn't think a little cheese could really do any of them harm. As far as he was concerned, the night was already off to a pretty good start.
