WHO: Robbie Reyes & Daisy Johnson
WHAT: Robbie unleashes Ghost Rider, Daisy tries to stop him... Shit goes down, yo.
WHEN: 2nd July, Evening
WHERE: Outside the Excalibur Hotel → Robbie's Room
RATING | STATUS: High for Violence, Sex (Fade to Black) | Complete

The feeling had tugged at him for days. Every morning, every evening; every time he had walked past the Excalibur. He didn’t need to be near that hotel to know what was going on -- he was able to hear the noise from down the block; the screams, the violence -- and it had gotten too much to ignore. Even from this distance, he’d known there were bad people in there, made worse by the flowers cropping up in every single hotel. He’d seen them, the first time he’d heard the noise.

The metal chain was wrapped around his torso, hiding it after he had left for work that morning. He hadn’t wanted Daisy to see that he had it. She’d told him to control the other guy when he’d first mentioned the violence, but there was a limit to how long he could see bad people and keep ignoring them. Especially after the deal he’d made. Being pulled toward those people was like a tether; he could try and ignore it, but it would always win in the end.

And it had won now.

His eyes started to glow, going from dark brown to fiery red and vibrant orange. The flesh on his face burned off, revealing the horrific countenance of the Ghost Rider. An empty skull, filled with unquenchable fire, marked with horrendous scars; its eyes were little more than holes inside the skull. An echoing roar erupted from his chest, the only sound the Ghost Rider could make.

He wound his hand around the end of the chain, yanking it free from around his chest. Fixing his attention on the murderous people around him, some covered in blood, he found those who had called to him -- to the other guy -- like a light in the dark. They were the ones who needed to pay.

The chain infused with fire, its links flaring an angry red; a man charged him, he swung the chain forward and a hole burst through the back of the man’s head. He didn’t wait to see the body fall, another person rushing toward him. He blocked the swing of a weapon in the person’s hand -- a sword, maybe an axe -- and gripped them by the neck with his free hand. Their hands weren’t clean either, he could see that. Fire burst from underneath his hand, incinerating the person in a few seconds flat; the clatter of the weapons hitting the ground sounded like a dull thud now.

He was ready for the next assault before it even reached him; this time, though, he couldn’t see a reason to kill them. He felt no urge to make them pay. With a solid punch to the side of the head, he rendered the woman unconscious. There were plenty of sinners left for him.

--

Daisy knew something was going on already, Robbie had mentioned it days ago. They thought they’d had a solution by putting them to sleep with the poppies from the Mandalay. But that had only been a temporary solution. Robbie had known that too. Still, letting Ghost Rider out could create some serious issues. People were pretty accepting of what was happening here, but a flaming skull might be pushing them too far. Not to mention the damage he could do. And how Robbie would feel after.

She had to do what she could to control the situation, particularly if Robbie couldn’t. She told him to keep him under control. He couldn’t do that. Robbie wasn’t to blame though, it was the Other Guy. He was so strong and with what was happening at the Excalibur there was no way he’d be able to keep him contained.

By the time Daisy got there, the fight was already in full swing. She had to use her powers on some of them, they just wouldn’t stop. And she could already see the Other Guy fighting too. At least right now it didn’t look like he was killing anyone. Yet.

She fought her way over. “Robbie!” She called, hoping she could get her friend to take some control again. Reasoning with Carrot Top would not be easy and she didn’t particularly want to fight him. But she would if she had to.

“That’s enough.”

--

And they just kept coming. Driven forward and murderous because of the effects of the pollen in their veins, each and every person from inside the Excalibur was focused on a single purpose: to destroy everything in their path. And they showed absolutely no signs of stopping.

His eyes, practically non-existent other than holes, saw the soul of each person that attacked him -- judged the souls of those that had yet to reach him. A great many of them possessed souls that were striving to do good in the world or were penitent in the face of whatever ill they had done, regardless of the effect the flowers had on them currently. Those individuals, he incapacitated as quickly and with as little violence as possible. But those who possessed souls that beckoned him like a beacon, there would be no mercy for them.

Through the clamour of the fighting, he heard someone shout at him. The voice was familiar, and he knew the person whom it belonged to, but he paid no heed to what she said. There was not a chance of stopping him either, now that he had been unleashed, and he was focused entirely on the uncontrollable individuals that charged towards him.

An axe swung wildly at him and he dropped to one knee, the weapon flying in an arc above his flaming skull harmlessly. His hand reached out and wrapped around the thick handle of the axe, yanking it and the woman holding it towards him. He imbued the axe with fire, causing it to burn the hands and arms of the woman, and he took the opportunity to snap the woman’s neck while she was very briefly distracted by her own burning flesh.

The body hadn’t even slumped to the floor before he was entangled with another, blocking blow after blow that came at him. A punch caught him across the jaw but did little to impede him, and the man responsible for the blow wasn’t reacting to his burning knuckles but attempting to land a hit again. He didn’t let the second punch land but retaliated with a hit of his own, making the man stagger back slightly, then lashed out with the flaming chain and wrapped it tightly around the man’s neck. A powerful yank backwards and the head separated from the body.

How wrong she'd been. He was definitely killing people. She came across the ashes of whoever this used to be. And then some man with a giant hole through his head. This was very bad. And it didn't seem like the detention period applied to him, that worried her. A lot.

And Daisy wasn't safe from the others either, she was having to throw them about making her way towards Robbie. If she didn't have her powers, she'd be in way over her head right now. She was already getting a bit overwhelmed by it all, but she wasn't giving up. She had to stop the Other Guy. He hadn't responded to her. She didn't really think that would work anyway.

And by the time she finally made it over to him, there were a lot more bodies dropped. When she was close enough, she threw out her hand, sending her power in his direction. She did not want to hurt Robbie, but she couldn't allow Carrot Top to keep killing people, even if he thought they deserved it. That wasn't their decision to make. It wasn't his decision. And Robbie would be the one who had to deal with the consequences.

She advanced on him. She hoped he'd stay down, but she doubted it. Unfortunately her path wasn't exactly clear because there were still violent people acting out all around them. But her focus was solely on Robbie and the Other Guy.

He didn't wait to see the pieces of his last victim slump to the ground, instead turning his attention toward more of the affected people as they approached him. The amount coming from inside the hotel hadn't lessened; if anything, there were more than before -- as if the fighting had attracted them out. It did not change his purpose; he would remove the guilty and leave the innocent.

But he didn't have a chance to attack another target. A sudden blast of energy knocked him backwards, making him fly across the open space and slam into a vehicle. The metal buckled under the force, folding inward and crumbling behind his back. His attention focused on the source; the empty pits of his eyes zeroed in on the young woman in black, narrowing sharply.

He remembered her. He had judged her, and found her penitent. But now she was attempting to stop him, and that would never end well.

Flexing the chain in his hand, he swung it around his chest twice and secured it, then pushed himself off the wrecked vehicle. While most of his attention was now focused on her, he hadn't forgotten about the continuous stream of people from the hotel. He pressed his hand into the vehicle, imbuing it with fire, then took hold of it with both hands. Lifting it off the ground, he hurled it in the direction of both the young woman and the approaching people with immense force, creating a field of debris and flames between the two.

He was quick on the heels of the vehicle he'd thrown, following its path to the young woman. Picking up a large piece of debris, he re-imbued it with fire and swung it at the young woman like a weapon, determined to get her out of the way so that he could return to judging the guilty.

Daisy wasn't naive enough to believe that she was going to be able to stop this with one blow, but she hoped it would be enough to disorient him for a minute or so. Fighting him was complicated enough, but fighting him and fighting all of the others around her, that was even harder. She would have been grateful for the car thing, except that she was sure he hadn't exactly done it to help her.

She was worried about exposure too. People were really going to freak out if they saw this scene. They were going to assume things. They didn't know that Carrot Top only took out the bad guys. And the last thing she wanted was to see something bad happen to Robbie because he couldn't control it. No, she was going to have to end this as soon as she could and get Robbie back safely.

But first she had to deal with the Rider. And judging by the way he was swinging that big piece of...whatever it was, he wasn't going to make it easy on her. She jumped back out of the way, and then sent another blast at him, hoping to knock him off his feet again. She just wanted to end this quickly and get Robbie out of there before anyone from their hotel could see what was happening...and talk.

"Robbie come on." She said, trying to reason with him. "We have to get out of here." The flaming car wouldn't hold the others off long and then they'd be fighting them and one another. Daisy did want to fight Robbie, or really the Other Guy either. But she couldn't let this continue. "We need to get back to the hotel."

His initial swing with the debris missed its mark, the young woman jumping backwards at the last moment and dodging the attack. He was quick to follow up with another swing, anchoring the debris in front of him -- and it protected him from the brunt of her next blast of energy, pushing him back a little but knocking the debris from his hands, through the wall of vehicle parts and fire.

That didn't stop him; not content to keep a relative distance from her now, he moved into close quarters and went on the offensive again. With every punch that he threw, he put a bit more power into each one. He knew from previous experience that she was a strong opponent, but he wasn't interested in wasting time. Even if she blocked most of his attacks, his superior strength and lack of fatigue would wear her down eventually, and he'd take advantage of that.

Even if it meant he'd have to endure her powers for a while.

The words that came from her lips fell on non-existent ears; he heard them all, but reacted to none of them. Whatever she was trying to achieve wouldn't work. He was in complete control now, and Robbie wanted this as much as he did. To judge the sinners and purge them from the world. It was the deal that they had made when trapped between dimensions. There was no backing out.

He was going to wear her down, she knew that was what he was going for. He didn't want her interferring with what he was doing, but she didn't think he'd seriously hurt her either. She'd begged him to kill her once, it felt like such a long time ago now. So much had happened. She couldn't continue to block his punches forever. She was fast and well trained but he had an obvious strength advantage on her, and could probably endure a lot more too.

Daisy wasn't giving up though. She'd fought as long as she could, all the while trying to reach her friend. If she could just get through to Robbie, she could end this. And then they could get back to the hotel before someone spotted them fighting and interfered. Of course, Daisy had interferred with Carrot Top already, but she knew what she was dealing with. No one else here did. It wasn't like Robbie had gone around telling people about his...deal. No, Daisy was the only one who could handle this.

Or could she?

She was tiring faster than she anticipated, and simple hand to hand wasn't really working out in her favor. After blocking another punch, she had to use her power again to push him back, and regain her ground. This only served to tire her more, and she was met with a familiar sensation, her nose had started to bleed and she was overexerting herself. She knew it. But she couldn't give up. Wouldn't give up.

"Robbie..." She gasped again, wiping the blood from her nose. "You have to stop."

Eventually, like he knew would happen, she was beginning to tire. Her blocks against his punches were getting weaker, and her retaliating punches had less power in them. He continued throwing punches and was shoved backwards by a blast of energy from her hands in response, dropping to one knee briefly in order to regain his balance. Any injuries that he received from the use of her powers would heal soon enough.

Returning to his feet, he saw it. The blood tricking out of her nose. He had no knowledge of what that meant, she'd never told Robbie about it, but it would be in his favour. He started towards her again, even as she gasped out words and wiped the blood away from her nose. His steps slowed but he didn't stop, his hands flexing under the black leather gloves before he resumed throwing punches at her.

With each one that he threw, she struggled more and her powers became less lethal. He saw how her nose continued to bleed, more so when she used her powers against him, and he made the connection. So when she failed to block a punch that he threw, he took full advantage of that and drove his fist into her abdomen, intent on knocking the wind out of her. He then swung his other hand upward and his fist collided with the underside of her chin, throwing her head back and knocking her to the ground in front of him.

She couldn't keep up. And each time she used her power she was getting weaker. But she couldn't give up either. She had to get through to him. She'd keep trying until she couldn't go on anymore, if she passed out or something. That was the only way she was going to stop until she got Robbie back. That was her plan anyway, but she quickly tiring from unrelenting blows. She couldn't block them all.

She hit the ground hard after his blows, nose still bleeding. She struggled to get back up. She was so tired. So beaten. She might have passed out just then. But somehow she managed to stay awake, wincing in pain as she tried once again to get up. It wasn't happening, not right now. She needed some time to recover.

"Robbie..." She pleaded, looking up at him, as she continued to struggle to get back to her feet. She was still conscious so she wasn't giving up. Of course it wasn't likely she'd stay that way long, so she hoped she could get through to him now.

He watched her collide hard with the concrete, blood flowing from her nose, and he could hear how uneven her breathing was. He waited a moment to see if she would get up and continue fighting, or if he needed to knock her down again before he could return to the reason he'd been there in the first place. It looked as though she was beaten, however, judging by the way that she was struggling to remain conscious.

An expression of pain crossed her face and something tugged inside him, an emotion that he didn't associate with himself but with his willing host. The way she continued to struggle despite everything made him feel some respect for her, but it made Robbie feel pain and guilt. Refusing to remain standing there and compromise their reason for having come here, he turned to go -- to head towards the carnage he'd created earlier and planned to continue.

And then she spoke.

She pleaded with him and it was that emotion in her voice that made him turn back, staring down at her. The expression on her face pulled at Robbie and he refused to continue the carnage, refused to pursue their vengeance. And with that decision made, Robbie took control once more; the flames engulfing his skull extinguished, the flesh regrowing over the scarred bone and returning his face to what it was before.

He moved over to Daisy quickly, leaning down and helping her to stand. He placed her arm across his shoulders and wrapped his arm around her waist carefully, avoiding the places where he had punched her multiple times. "You shouldn't have come after me," he said, guilt lacing his voice. The expression on his face was conflicted, a mixture of anger at himself for what he'd done -- and guilt and regret over what he'd done to Daisy.

It worked. She'd done it. She was tired as hell but at least Robbie was back. She was sure her bruises would have bruises but she didn't want him to worry about that. She'd heal. So would he. The important thing was that he was Robbie again. She'd been able to get through to him and stop all of this. Now she just had to get him back to the hotel. Or more accurately at this point, he'd have to get her there.

"I do a lot of things I shouldn't do." She replied smartly, when he said she shouldn't have come after him. She was the only one who could come after him. She had to. She wasn't sure she'd be able to get through to him. She wasn't Gabe. But she'd had to try. What a birthday this had turned out to be. He'd helped her to her feet, but she was still a little unsteady. That had been a hell of a fight. But overall, she felt good about it. She'd gotten him back.

"I'm alright." She told him. She wasn't, not completely, but she would be. She didn't want him to feel bad, and she could tell he did. It was bad enough all of the people that had been killed, but Carrot Top had actually hurt her. And Robbie probably wouldn't handle any of that well. But that wasn't something they should stand around here and talk about, particularly when people were still fighting.

"We should go." She said. There would be no more fighting tonight for them. She was just so glad he was back to himself. And she'd do whatever she could to help him deal with what had just happened.

Her smart-ass response made a inaudible sigh leave his lungs; of course she'd still have that attitude after what just happened. He didn't understand her sometimes. It didn't matter how bad things got, Daisy always held onto the attitude that was all hers. "I've noticed," he retorted, but there wasn't much of an edge to his voice. He sounded tired, regretful -- disappointed in himself.

He didn't believe her when she told him that she was alright, because he knew what he'd done to her; each punch, every attack, he remembered all of it. But it was pointless to debate it now; the crazed civilians were still stuck behind the wall of fire and debris that he'd created but it wouldn't last forever. And he needed to get her somewhere safe; they needed to get out of the area before any police showed up, which he knew they would. This wasn't eastern LA.

Together, him supporting her with his arm and shoulders, they walked back to the Mandalay. Because of the persistent flowers, he steered them to a service entrance at the back of the hotel that he'd started using in order to get to work faster. It was for the employees, yet none of them seemed to be bothered that he also used it. The elevator wasn't too far after that and he helped her inside, punching the number for his floor with more force than was needed. He didn't say anything while the elevator travelled, but didn't separate himself from her either.

The familiar ding had him helping her out of the elevator and down the hall to his room, unlocking the door after a quick struggle to get the key out of his pocket. Once they were inside, Robbie helped her to the couch and let her sit down, having kicked the door shut behind them with his foot. He yanked his gloves off and dumped them somewhere, then headed into the bathroom and grabbed a damp face cloth, some pain pills and a glass of water. He hadn't let the other guy other before tonight since arriving here, but he had wanted to be prepared for anything. He just didn't think it would have been this.

Coming back, he sat down on the couch beside her -- he wanted to clean the blood off her face but he wasn't sure whether she wanted him to get too close, so he held the cloth out to her. The glass of water and box of pain pills, he put on the table in front of them. He waited a minute before finally asking, "Why did you get involved?"

Daisy was pretty quiet as they made their way back to the Mandalay. She didn't know what to say after all of that. And of course she was downplaying her pain a bit, there was no reason to make Robbie feel worse than he undoubtedly already did. But none of this had been Robbie's fault. Daisy chose to go after him, knowing what she was getting herself into. It was as much her fault as it was the Rider's. But she had to get him back, and preferably before anyone saw. She didn't imagine people would react well to Carrot Top.

It had been one hell of a fight, but Daisy figured she'd had worse. She'd been beaten so badly in the Framework. This was nothing. Hell of a way to spend her birthday, though. The Other Guy obviously didn't care about discretion as Daisy did. Because it was quite a scene as they made their way back. She could only hope that he hadn't been discovered, but she was aware that was a huge long shot.

When they were safely back in Robbie's room and no other catastrophe had befallen them, only then did she feel like she could relax a little. She too the pills and the water, and then dabbed at her face with the wet cloth, trying to clean herself up a bit before she could speak to him. Why had she gotten involved? Well, that was a good question, wasn't it? "Because I was the only one here who could." She said quietly, wiping some dried blood from her face. "I was the only chance." The only chance they had at getting Robbie back before the Other Guy did too much damage.

"I really hope no one here saw anything." She admitted, setting the rag down next to the glass of water. "We are gonna need to find something to do about that place though, someone's going to get killed."

Her quiet voice didn't soften the blow of her words, as confusing as they were for a few moments. He didn't understand why she thought that. What could she have done? The last time they had fought like that, she had begged him to kill her. This time, it had been the opposite. That fact was crystal clear to him in a very uncomfortable way.

"Only chance at what?" he asked, even as he realised what Daisy meant. He turned his head away, closing his eyes for a moment, while a slow exhale left his lungs. She thought that the other guy's persistence had overwhelmed him and caused him to kill those people. She thought he'd lost control.

Robbie stood up abruptly and moved a few paces away. He shoved his hands together, used to the familiar sensation of the leather gloves against his skin, but he'd gotten rid of them en route to the bathroom. He wasn't going to look for them now; he was focused on something much more important. He had to tell her what had changed.

He had to tell her the truth.

"You don't get it," he said, glancing over his shoulder at her. She had wiped most of the blood off her face but there were still flecks visible, taunting and reminding him of what he'd done. "I didn't lose control. I let him out." A part of him didn't want to turn around, didn't want to face her. But after all they'd been through together, both here and back home, he owed her that much.

"When Coulson, Fitz and I were gone, it left me. We were all being dragged down somewhere, and it didn't want to go back there. That's why it went into Mack," he explained, filling in the bits that she didn't know. They had been in the same place, but the barrier between dimensions had separated them -- the other guy had been the only connection between the two places. "I didn't want Mack to suffer that. He's a good man. He doesn't have vengeance in him. But it refused to let him go."

He went quiet for a moment, as if it was difficult to recall the memories. In part, it was. "I knew I wouldn't survive that place without it, but I knew that it needed me too." He forced himself to look at Daisy, before he continued. "So I made a new deal. I promised that if it would give me my vengeance on Eli... and help me settle my score, then I would settle his -- all of his."

It had already been a long night, and Daisy wasn't entirely prepared for what Robbie had to say. She had gone out to help him, to get her friend back. Robbie losing control and unleashing the Other Guy on this place was the last thing they needed. Of course there were probably people here that deserved his vengeance. But that wasn't something that was up to them to judge. And she worried about the effects it would have on Robbie.

His words were not what she expected. She hadn't known about the deal, not until right then. And she didn't really know what to say. She was silent for some time. She knew how hard it probably was for Robbie to talk about something like this. And it meant a lot that he trusted her enough to let her know the truth too. She'd thought she was saving him, but Robbie had willingly let him out.

He'd made a deal. Though it was unexpected, Daisy couldn't fault him. She likely would have made a deal if she was in his position too. What deal wouldn't she have made to have Lincoln back? Or to erase her time with Hive or any of her other mistakes? Yes, Daisy could understand why Robbie might have made a deal. But that changed things, immensely.

His deal had saved Mack and given him enough power to take care of his uncle. But now Robbie had to hold up his end, and let Carrot Top out to deal with the bad people of Vegas. Whether or not they should be judging them was irrelevant to the Other Guy. Daisy knew that. But she was concerned because there were so many other people here who had never seen something like Ghost Rider. Robbie was her friend, and she wanted to protect him.

She sat there on the couch in stunned silence for awhile, as she processed all of the information. And she imagined Robbie had likely felt similarly when she'd tried to explain the Framework and all.

"So...you made a deal." She finally said, a little hesitantly. "But how will that work here? People are going to find out..."

He knew that it was a lot of new information for Daisy to process, especially after what had happened earlier. She'd gone out there, tried to stop the Rider from doing too much damage -- believing that Robbie was just as much of a victim as the rest. But he wasn't. He'd let the Rider out, knowing what would happen. And it hadn't made a difference to him.

The silence stretched on for a while, but he didn't interrupt it. He knew that she needed time to absorb all that he'd told her. Problem was, Robbie wasn't sure of how she would ultimately react. He couldn't help but remember how Gabe had reacted, discovering that Robbie and the Ghost Rider were the same person -- in his eyes, at least. Truth didn't matter. The horror on Gabe's face was something that Robbie would never forget.

When she finally spoke, he just managed to stop himself letting out an exhale of relief. He wouldn't admit it out loud, but part of him had been expecting a worst case scenario and he wouldn't have been surprised if it had come. After all, he'd fought her, beaten her up badly. She could have dropped him without hesitation and he would have accepted it, because he would have deserved it.

His brow furrowed a little, mulling over her question even though he didn't understand the point of it. It was impossible for them to keep the Ghost Rider a secret forever, and he wasn't going to keep the Rider locked up. For one, it wouldn't work long term and two, he didn't want to.

"People knew about the Rider in LA. Didn't change a thing," he replied. "And it won't here. You can't expect him -- us to sit around and do nothing. This place is full of asesinos who deserve it. I told you, it's vengeance. And just because you don't like what we do doesn't mean it's wrong." His hands broke apart, his arms dropping down to rest at his sides. "You did the same thing with those Watchdogs. How is that any different?"

Daisy had to think about how she was going to proceed with this. It was not an easy thing. But at the end of the day, the person that Daisy cared about was Robbie. This wasn't their world and who knew what the consequences of letting the Rider loose might be. Robbie had to deal with those consequences, not Carrot Top. And even if Robbie thought he was ready for that, Daisy wasn't so sure. Killing people took an awful toll. She hadn't even killed Lincoln, not directly, and she'd carry that around with her forever.

She stood up, turning her back to him so she could pace a bit. On the one hand, he had a point. She had gone after the Watchdogs with ferocity. But she hadn't killed anyone on purpose, even if she'd wanted to. Even if they wanted to see her and everyone like her erased from the face of the Earth simply for being different. After pacing a bit more, she turned and sighed. She picked up the glass of water that she hadn't finished, and sipped on it a little more before setting it down. Then she had to sit, because she was still pretty sore from the fight.

"That's LA in our world, Robbie. This is not our world. There are all kinds of people here who don't, who can't understand the world we come from. Let alone Carrot Top. They're probably going to think he's a demon." And they'd try to stop him, and get hurt. Or worse. Daisy had been able to get Robbie back because she knew him. Anyone else, they wouldn't have been so lucky. And while he wouldn't have hurt anyone on purpose, that doesn't mean it wouldn't have happened.

"I get it, okay? You made a deal. But given our circumstances here, you're gonna have to put that deal on hold. I don't give a damn about the Other Guy, Robbie. He doesn't have to deal with the consequences. You do. You're the one who has to deal with the aftermath of it all, and I care about you. I care about what happens to you." She was pretty passionate in saying this. She didn't want to lose anyone else she cared about or even see them hurt. And whether he liked it or not, that now included one Robbie Reyes.

Even as he said those words, he was prepared for her to respond in a specific way. He expected anger, perhaps some disappointment. What he didn't expect her to do was stand up, let alone start pacing back and forth in the small space beside the couch with her back turned to him. He took that moment to move from where he stood on the other side of the coffee table, sitting down on the couch instead.

Robbie felt a degree of frustration and it lingered just out of sight - behind his serious expression, behind the force and conviction of his previous words to her. He didn't judge her for whatever she'd done in the past, but she couldn't judge him either. Not without being hypocritical. Their methods weren't the same but in the end, both of them were working toward a similar goal.

But that frustration broke through when she started to talk, his head shaking back and forth in disagreement even while she kept going. "It doesn't work like that. I can't just ignore him and do nothing," he responded, the emotion in his voice getting stronger, and he turned a little on the couch to face her, now that she had sat down again.

"You remember what happened at that prison. I could ignore it for a little bit, but not forever. That pull, that need -- that hunger isn't something I'm able to just ignore forever. I can't put the deal on hold, and I'm not going to. He saved my life, because I made that deal. You don't know what kind of shit I would be up against if I didn't hold up my end of the deal." The emotions drenched his voice now, everything that he was feeling on display for her to see, while he tried to make her understand exactly what she was wanting him to do.

The part of him that wanted to protect those he cared about understood where she was coming from. She didn't want him to get into a situation where there was no way out. The barrier that kept them here was just one part of that. But the part of him that could see all her injuries, that felt so much guilt over what he'd done to her was inescapable. Robbie hadn't said it out loud, but he cared about Daisy too. In this place where there was no one else that he even knew, let alone trusted, he had realised that.

"You think you're alone in that?" he asked, his voice dropping briefly. "You might have friends here from SHIELD, but you are all I've got. And you just went out there and attacked him -- and I could have killed you! Did you even consider that?" He didn't even notice that he was nearly shouting by now, the guilt and disappointment at the front of his mind -- the crushing guilt at what he had done to her, the persistent disappointment that she must feel about him now. "You couldn't have known that I would've stopped before it was too late, not after all I'd done...." He turned away then, his face tilting down towards his hands gripped together tightly in front of him.

If there was one thing that Robbie absolutely had to know about her by now, it was that Daisy didn't give in easily. She couldn't. She hadn't stopped until she reached him. And she wouldn't have stopped until she was unconscious or dead if she hadn't been able to do that. She understood that Robbie had made a deal, but that deal might get him hurt or worse here. It was not going to be easy for anyone to accept Carrot Top. They'd think he was some kind of monster.

She let him talk, figuring he really needed to get it out. But his words hadn't changed her mind in the slightest. She would always fight to bring him back, because if the situation were reversed, she wanted to believe he'd fight to bring her back too. In a way, he already had. She'd been so dark, so lost, after what happened to Lincoln and her time with Hive. Robbie had helped her snap out of it.

She didn't think words would help now. She knew how guilty he felt about what he'd done to her, she could hear it in his voice. But Daisy was fine. She'd had worse. And sure, he could have killed her but he hadn't. And she had banked a lot on that, because of the trust she felt for Robbie. And even though she had begged him to kill her in the past, he hadn't. So she knew he couldn't do it now.

She shook her head when he mentioned that she had friends from SHIELD there. That might have been how Robbie saw it, but she didn't really know any of them. All she had was Robbie. And all Robbie had was Daisy. It was a bit of a volatile situation for the both of them. She couldn't really find the words for any of this. Words were getting them nowhere, really.

She grabbed his head and leaned in close, making him look at her. "Robbie, shut up." Daisy told him, before she kissed him with fire and passion that needed a real release.

He didn't know what her reaction would be, but he wasn't willing to move his gaze away from his hands to find out. It had been a while since he'd been that open and honest with someone, and even longer since he'd been willing to look and sound that vulnerable. He wasn't afraid to look at her, and yet a part of him was.

Ever since his parents' death, Robbie had been strong and unshakeable -- for Gabe, for their broken family, even through all the trauma with their tío. But that was all gone now, lost when he'd been brought here instead of Hell, and all that remained was him and Daisy. She didn't need anyone to protect her; she wasn't weak and helpless. She was a SHIELD agent and an Inhuman. He didn't need to be always the strong one anymore.

And when Robbie felt her slightly cold hands touch his face, he knew that he wouldn't be able to keep looking away. He turned to look at her, even while her hands guided his face in the same direction. His eyes focused on her face, his own still marred with the emotions he couldn't overcome, while he waited for her to talk. Her simple statement made his eyebrows rise and his mouth open, but he didn't get a chance to say anything because she kissed him -- and he forgot everything else.

All that mattered right now was her.
