WHO: Jyn Erso & Cassian Andor
WHAT: Jyn arrives and Cassian finds her
WHEN: 9th May
WHERE: Hotel Lobby
RATING | STATUS: Low | In Progress Complete
The last thing Jyn remembers is white hot heat and the comforting feel of Cassian next to her. When her eyes open, panic takes over her almost immediately and she jumps up looking at her unfamiliar surroundings. Her initial reaction is this has to be some kind of afterlife, a place where the dead might wake up before facing either paradise or judgement but it’s too... welcoming in a sterile, generic way. It feels wrong, this isn’t where she’s supposed to be. This isn’t right. Jyn doesn’t look back at her room when she throws open the door and runs down the hall, desperately seeking an exit. The hotel is nothing like she'd seen before too clean and well kept. There are very few places where buildings of this style still stand and she doesn’t want to stay any longer than she has to. When she finds the lift, Jyn jams the L button and waits impatiently, fists clenched in case she needs to fight her way out. The closer she gets to the lobby, the more her body tenses and when the doors dinged open she finds... a hotel lobby. A few passersby look at her oddly, fists still slightly raised and body tensed. Jyn relaxes enough to step out, confused but still uneasy. Although taken aback that she seems to be in just a normal hotel, Jyn still makes for the door. It’s bright and hot outside, the heat is drier than Scarif’s but nothing like what she’s seeing is familiar or makes sense. Rather than wander the busy streets, Jyn runs back inside and beings to look for something, anything that might answer her questions instead of raise more. The lobby is overwhelming, the entire situation is and she can feel that same panic trying to gain footing in her chest. Jyn stops, closes her eyes and takes a deep, calming breath. It won’t help to freak out. --- The last person Cassian expected to see that morning was Jyn. Ever since she’d disappeared from her room in the hotel, Cassian had been looking for her. He had rejected his own mind’s suggestion of asking others for help in locating her, preferring to do it on his own. A week had passed and he’d remained unsuccessful. Yet there she stood, in the middle of the hotel lobby; her eyes closed and fists clenched by her sides, wearing the same clothes from the mission on Scarif. In fact, Jyn looked exactly like she had in the moments before they both had died. That knowledge made Cassian’s mind spin with unanswered questions. Where had she been? What had she been doing? Had she spent the last two and a half weeks wearing the same clothes, not seeing to her injuries from Scarif? It seemed ludicrous to consider it; he had done far worse when on assignment for the Rebellion, but he wasn’t on an assignment and he was not anywhere near a Rebellion base. Yet the panic that had lurked in the pit of his stomach over the last week was gone. She was back and, despite her current appearance, looked to be unharmed. He felt more relief than he was willing to admit. He weaved a path through the groups of oblivious people, their murmured conversation just registering in his mind long enough to absorb important information before the rest was then discarded. When he was a few paces from Jyn, he slowed and came to a stop in front of her, with a small amount of space between them. “Jyn,” he said, a smile pulling the corner of his mouth upward. “You’re alright. Where have you been? You’ve been gone for a week.” --- Jyn recognizes the voice immediately and snaps her eyes open to find Cassian before her. She can’t help the smile that spreads across her face, exhaling a small relieved breath that could almost be mistaken for a laugh. “Cassian?” she says, reaching out to grab his arm instinctively as if to check that he’s real and alive. “You’re here, you’re safe.” The next few words out of his mouth are deeply confusing and Jyn takes the smallest step back. ‘You’ve been gone for a week.’ The sentence echoes in her mind, making less and less sense the longer she thinks about it. Gone where? Jyn’s last memory is the blinding brightness and Cassian beside her, she’s never been here before. She looks up at him, trying to find where he might be lying or teasing her but she doesn’t find anything. “I’ve never been here,” she replies after a few moments, brow furrowed. “The last thing I remember is the beach... the light and then... I was here.” --- Cassian watched her eyes open, a smile spreading across her lips and lighting up her entire face. Her firm grip on his arm was reassuring and he returned the gesture, his hands moving to wrap firmly around her arms just above her elbows. “I’m here,” he confirmed, the smile at the corner of his mouth growing slightly. “We’re here. We’re safe.” But in the back of his mind, he knew that they were dead too. If they ever left this strange place, they would cease to exist. Yet she claimed that she didn’t remember being here, that her memories matched his own just before he woke up here. The beach….the blinding light….holding Jyn tightly.... His brow furrowed briefly, almost imperceptibly. Did that mean her memories of this place had been erased? He believed what she said; as far as she knew, she’d never been here. First the impenetrable shield around this place -- and now this. Others spoke of being locked in rooms and having to complete puzzles to free themselves, but he couldn’t speak about it. He hadn’t experienced it himself. “That’s the last thing I remember as well,” Cassian said, finally. “The beach….the light….” Us. “Then I woke up here. That was almost three weeks ago.” His hands let go of her arms, returning to his sides. “You arrived a few days after I did. We talked via communication devices, which are provided to each person that arrives here.” He removed the device from a pocket, showing it to her. “Then I stopped by your room and you weren’t there. I looked for you, but you had just disappeared.” |
