He could see the disbelief on her face when she breathed that word. It was the same emotion he had felt when Finn had told him what he knew of them, of Rogue One. It was hard to believe that all of them were considered heroes; they had just done what needed to be done. The corner of his mouth lifted in a smirk, reacting to her smile. "That's what I said. We did what had to be done." He'd seen how she relaxed in the chair, perhaps feeling more at ease now. He couldn't admit to being more relaxed, having spent his entire life looking over his shoulder. But with Jyn there, he had someone that he could trust. And that was all that mattered. "Quite a bit. He said that it's been thirty four years since the assault on Scarif. What we did there led to the Empire's defeat a few years later, even though they tried to complete a second planet killer. The Rebellion became the New Republic." Cassian was hesitant to tell Jyn all that Finn had told him, especially out here where anybody could listen in. He still simmered with anger over knowing that the ashes of the Empire had not been snuffed out permanently, but had grown into another version of it while the New Republic had done nothing. It had taken another version of the Rebellion to fight them and that war wasn't even over. He didn't want to think about what it would take to defeat the First Order; it made him feel like all he'd done for the Rebellion was for nothing. |
