"You gave Buffy an amulet that you didn't know anything about?" Wesley asked Angel in disbelief as Fred and Regan headed out with Spike for the lab. When the vampire just shrugged, he sighed, reaching up to rub his brow for a moment. "Why don't you go with them to lab. I'll see what I can find out about this."
While Angel followed the others, Wesley went to his office and picked up one of the templates, calling up one of the books on mystical objects. He flipped through, trying to find something that might catch his eye, but after several minutes started to think that it might be better if he gave Rupert a call. With his background in mystical objects thanks to his museum work as well as his shop, he might have a better shot at figuring out what this was without them having to dig through tomes upon tomes of information. And maybe checking this out under one of the microscopes in Fred's lab might not be a bad idea.
He was about to pick up the phone and call England since it was still early enough that he might catch Rupert at the Council office when Angel came running in.
"You should get down to the lab," he said.
"What happened?" Wesley asked, standing up. "Did something happen with Spike? Is Fred all right?"
"I think Regan had a power blip, and Knox threatened her because of it. She's upset, not surprisingly, and I think Fred could use your help."
"What?" Wesley jumped up and was heading out into the lobby when he saw security escorting Knox down the stairs. Anger rushed through him as he started for the other man. "What in the bloody hell did you say to my daughter, you wanker?!"
"Wes! Stop!" Angel said, grabbing him and pulling him back. Looking at the guards, he jerked his head toward the lift, indicating they should get Knox out of there. "Fred's fired him, so don't worry about him. He's out of here."
Taking a deep breath, Wesley nodded. He still wanted to hurt Knox for daring to threaten Regan, but he knew his family was more important at the moment. "Thanks, Angel."
He pulled away and ran up the stairs, hurrying to the lab. One of the scientists pointed to Fred's office, where he found Fred sitting with Regan on the couch, holding her close. "What happened?" he asked, joining them and wrapping his arms around both of his girls.
"I...my power blipped, and I made a pen on Knox's desk move, and he said that if I didn't leave him alone, he was going to use me in one of his experiments," Regan sniffed as she snuggled in between them. "I didn't mean for it to happen that time. I really didn't! He just walked in, and it happened. I'm sorry."
Wesley shook his head, knowing that Regan didn't. Part of the reason she had been taken by Lilah Morgan when she had been a baby had been because of a prophecy that said their daughter would grow up to be a powerful young woman, and Lilah wanted to corrupt that power for the Senior Partners. However, some good demons from another dimension had stepped in and rescued her, taking her to live with them so they could help her start to learn to use her powers as well as teach her to be a Angel's Soul Guardian. When they had returned her, though, she still had difficulties with her powers, but because of what was happening with the Beast, they weren't able to keep her with them any longer since she was needed to help protect Angel's soul when they brought out Angelus. As a result, she still had times where her powers got away from her.
Especially when she was emotional. Or she didn't like someone. Like Knox.
"It's all right, sweetheart. We know it was an accident. But Knox isn't going to hurt you. We promise." He looked over at Fred. "Maybe we should take her home? I'm sure Angel can deal with Spike."
"Hey!" the blond vampire groused. "Don't leave me alone with Captain Forehead!"
Wesley ignored him. "I wanted to call Rupert about the amulet, but I can do that from home and continue my research there."
