Wesley Wyndam-Pryce took the tray from the counter and made his way over to a small table towards the side. He stood for just a moment to make eye-contact with Severus to be certain that it was an acceptable location before sitting down. The soup in front of him smelled amazing, which was good considering earlier in the day he’d been certain he wouldn’t want anything to eat. Apparating was, as it turned out, precisely how the books had described and while Wesley was certain he would get used to it, the first time out, he’d been nauseated for quite a while following his and Severus’ arrival in San Francisco. The fact that he was sitting in a restaurant on Pier 39 waiting for Severus snape to join him was certainly surreal. He ought to be getting used to it, Wesley thought wryly and he took a seat and reached for a piece of the bread to break off and stick in the clam chowder. After all, since his arrival in this particular dimension, he’d met characters that he thought were fictional and had read about since his boyhood. Severus Snape was a newer addition to characters he’d read about - with the books having been out for not so very long where he was from - but he was perhaps as interesting as any of the characters Wesley had met here. Truth was that Wesley found Severus Snape’s character fascinating -- perhaps it was because he felt a good deal of empathy for the other man. In slightly different circumstances it could have been him, he was confident. Everything, from making a huge mistake with the woman he cared about, to also doing anything to protect that woman, to the sort of dedication with which Severus seemed to carry out even tasks he didn’t particularly care for, was familiar to Wesley. He couldn’t help but wonder how much Severus knew about him as he was guessing his television show -- even if it existed in Severus’s reality -- wasn’t on the wireless at Hogwarts. Wesley shook the thoughts off and offered Severus a smile as the other man joined him at the able. “I swear I’ve not seen this much plastic rubbish since I invaded Jessalyn’s Magical Emporium a couple of years back. How many small plastic castle-like objects claiming to be Alcatraz does one town need?” |
