You know what I discovered in this last week? I can't lie. Someone asks me a question, and suddenly I'm talking about everything on my mind. They just want a "I'm good. How 'bout you?" Instead, I have given total strangers a full rundown on how much I miss my wife because she's living in another world. Not even another state. Another world. Y'know. Just a completely sane thing to hear from a total stranger. Guess what, total stranger, I was Spider-Man back before I lost all my powers.

This is a bad idea.

I don't know why I started to write.

It was vaguely funny in my head because irony and self-depreciation is my jam, but now I'm writing because I can't stop writing.

Man, I really miss having powers. I'm happy for what I have, but I would sign up in two seconds flat to

[Peter chucks his phone to stop himself, and the entry posts. Because of course it does.]

Did they ask you to prove it? Because I did the same thing at Starbucks and the person thought I was funny when I said my name was Kamala Khan, and then I kept insisting I was, until they told me to do exactly that. Prove it.

I gave them an extra long finger. Sam is going to be like "wtf, Kamala", but I honestly thought it was worth it.

It was more them walking away and laughing. I couldn't prove anything anyway, so probably for the best. My ego, it stings. But I'll live.

Is there where I get to be totally uncool and say that I don't know any Kamalas, but it sounds like you have some elastic powers?

I'm disappointed, but that's okay because I do tend to keep my identity pretty under wraps. You at least know of Ms. Marvel though, right? Not Carol Danvers Ms. Marvel, although that's where I got my name from.

Man, usually most of my heroes don't know me but it makes it less weird because otherwise, they might go "oh right, you wrote that fanfic of me where I fought White Walkers in space and hooked up with Captain Marvel or Spider-Woman", and that makes for some awkward conversation, especially if they don't approve of the pairing.

Right, yeah. Alternate realities and different universes and such. Been there. Did you know in one of them, I'm the president of the US? Someone told me so. I haven't seen the comics here and now I can't remember if it was one of our own people who had told me so.

Yeah, that's a real fic. The portal gifted me a while ago with my external hard drive with all my fics in them!

Pretty sure those times made Johnny want to stay around. At least for as long as we didn't realize it was going on and he could enjoy laughing at everyone's reaction.

I could go on a run. I could maybe just leave my phone at home. And it's harder than you think, but that's just because May will stage a whole interrogation and she also negotiates 15 minutes onto bed time every night. If you're not good, she will get you up to an hour.

But you know, you could still DO stuff, even without the powers. You don't remember it because it was another world for you, but there was a time when I didn't have mine. I still went out and did it because people need help.

(Also, I am really glad it's after nightfall. Being a bird is so boring.)

Oh, believe me that I know I can still pitch in. I have two kids that I wouldn't trade anything in the world for, and they keep me plenty busy. It... still doesn't mean I wouldn't jump at a chance to get my powers back.

You never know. Maybe you will. Maybe you'll get an update and suddenly POWERS! I got new ones when everyone went all Spider-Island in New York a few years ago.

Flying's kind of neat. But there's the part where I'm like "Oh look, a grasshopper! Yum!" And I like weird stuff. Just not insect weird.
