Hypothetical question. If someone wanted to speak to someone about issues, where would they go? Is there like a professional or a head doctor? Not like physical issues, the other kind.

That's a hell of lot of specialties. And how do you go about helping people find better ways?

Oh, there's a lot. Especially once you get into things like careers and finances which are a lot more practical and solid.

Talk therapy. Having an unbiased sounding board who can reframe situations, help you figure out why you do destructive things.

Not like I'm interested in being a therapist. I can't imagine talking to people for a living, especially crazy people.

That sounds stupid. And the person somehow figures all that stuff out?

Most people who go to therapy aren't crazy.

Yeah, I haven't quite figured out a way to explain it that doesn't just sound like "talking about your feelings will magically solve your problems". You do have to be pretty honest with yourself. It can be a lot more work than it sounds.

They aren't? I thought crazy people went to go see head doctors?

I mean if anyone is going to be honest with me, it's going to be myself. And this isn't a group sort of thing, right? I already go to one and I don't really like talking much.

They do, but usually they'll be under the care of a psychiatrist, which is a qualified doctor who specialises in mental illness and can prescribe medication. Therapy's just part of their treatment. Most people who go to therapy are completely sane, just having trouble with something in their life.

No, I don't do group work, only one on one. There's also rules about keeping everything someone says to me in a session secret unless I think they're going to physically hurt themselves or someone else.

How do I know that you'll keep whatever I say to you to yourself? What if I physically killed hurt someone in the past, but I have no intention to hurt anyone now. Would you tell? Who would you tell?

Anything you've done in the past isn't for me to deal with, apart from how it affects you. Especially if it was before you came here. Hell, there's people around who've literally tried to destroy or conquer the world. The only time I might say something is if I think you're actually going to go off in the very near future and attack someone, then I would probably warn that person and maybe get help to get you to the brig or somewhere similar until I thought you changed your mind. Same if I thought you were going to hurt yourself.

Least I can say that I helped save the world once. But yeah all of that was before I got here. All of that happened six years ago.

I'm not going to hurt anyone, though. If anyone, it probably would be me. Not like I'm looking to hurt myself, I'm just saying. If I had a choice.

So. Uh. How do I go about asking to talk to you? Right? I talk to you?

Honestly most of the people I've worked with would be more willing to hurt themselves than someone else.

Yeah, we can just arrange a time to get together. I find afternoons are best, after school ends when it's on, because then I can use one of the classrooms to get some privacy.

Afternoons works. What time does school end?

Do I have to pay you or anything? I won't be your client, right?

1pm. So giving them some time to clear out, any time after 2.

No payment. In Tumbleweed I have a separate day job in a similar field and here no one's doing paid work. I got the qualification because I'm a sucker for helping people when they need it and I was halfway there anyway.
