I'm guessing the Tolkien books are in the library, although there may not be enough copies for everyone. I have digital copies on my computer - the trilogy and also The Hobbit - if anyone would like to read them on their tablet. Just let me know.

I was also thinking we should screen the movies, if we have them, even though there might be inaccuracies (if we're visiting the book world). Because it might be hard for new readers to get through 3-4 books in the two days before we hit the port.

I'm not sure. It depends on which dwarves you encounter; some of them are greedier and keep their secrets closer than others. I wouldn't try too hard with any that already seem biased against humans. If you find friendlier ones , giving them something in exchange would probably help.

Specifically, you might have better luck with the dwarves of Erebor, or Gimli, if you can find them, because they've had more alliances with humans and a little more experience outside their own traditions, in general.

I had money back in my universe, and I'm not against spending money. But I don't think we're arriving with much means in our purse. Still, I can make lots of things. It's a question of... what kind of gift would they life?

Okay, thank you. I'll see what I can find about them.

It doesn't have to be money. Metalwork is [...] closer to their hearts than that. Something that's unique, that only you can offer - or only people on this ship can offer - would be best. I'm not entirely sure what that would be. It might also be unique to the dwarf. You'll probably have to ask what they are willing to take in exchange.

There is plenty I can do and make that would not be made in most fantasy settings. So that should be doable, even with what's on the ship. I am not opposed to asking. Shame I haven't mastered (even the real basics) of Olkari technology. They work directly with metal for their engineering, in a way I haven't seen elsewhere. But someday. I'll learn it.

If you have a piece of technology to spare that would be useful to them in their world, that might be the best trade. But I'm not entirely sure what that would be.

Excluding computerized technology, my options are greatly reduced. I'm sure I can figure something out. Faster with help.
