WHO: Serana and Ysmir
WHERE: Ysmir's forge
WHEN: November 17, afternoon
WHAT: General snark, mild unintentional flirting, chatting, sweaty Nord Dragon boy
WARNINGS: None for now... will change as needed
STATUS: In progress

So far Serana's transition to this new land referred to as Tumbleweed, Texas had been a bit of a task. It was still challenging for Serana to make connections in this new world. It was vastly different from Skyrim in so many ways. She was not used to all of the technology and it took time for her to read through all of network conversations. Not that she really needed to read through them, but many of them were quite amusing and she liked keeping up with others even if she wasn't talking with them. Serana did not respond to others unless she felt in the mood to strike up a conversation. She did suspect it would make her transition a little easier if she'd step out a little more, but so far she really just wanted to acclimate herself to Ysmir's home before venturing too far.

Serana would be forever grateful to him for allowing her to reside in his home. It wasn't the first time she had required a place to sleep, but this was different in that she figured this would be her permanent residence while there. That was assuming they had no falling out.

Ah hahaha! Why would you ever have a falling out with Ysmir? Serana merely grinned at herself as she thought this to herself. He was her dearest and most loyal friend. Any argument could easily be resolved. Serana wasn't that stubborn.

She had refamiliarized herself the manor, because it was just slightly different from the house back in Skyrim. It was Lakeview, but it was different somehow. She had been in Tumbleweed nearly two weeks, and she counted herself fortunate every day that she had Ysmir there to guide her. It wasn't easy for the recently-turned-back-to-human-ex-vampire to live in such a strange world. She was used to very different circumstances. At least here she felt she had a second chance where only her friend knew of her past.

She followed the hallways through the house, finding her way outside toward the forge. It was beginning to get colder. Nothing Serana couldn't handle. She pulled out a pair of sunglasses she had bought (these things were wonderful) and put them on before pulling the hood of her jacket over her head. Some things would never change, and one of them was Serana's need to cover her head when outside. When she reached the forge she would her friend diligently working. A little grin cropped up across her lips, "You're going to overheat yourself if you're not careful, Dragon Boy."

Texas, even at this time of year, was hot. Skyrim tended to run on the cooler side because of all the snow, but he handled it well because his Nord blood naturally ran warmer than the other races of Tamriel. He was built for the cold, but wasn't prepared for this. Even with the temperature gradually dropping lower, it was still blazing hot out.

He was making a new sword, simply so he'd have something to do. He couldn't occupy his time here living as a mercenary but people still liked looking at his creations. The coffers in his cellar were well-stocked with ore but it would only last for so long before he'd need to find more resources or an alternative occupation. Without these valuable resources, his forge was only there for the show and not of much use.

Having Serana here made him a little less homesick for Skyrim. He was no stranger to this feeling - it'd been ages since he'd set foot in Cyrodiil and he missed his family in Bruma. But with Serana, things weren't as foreign to him anymore. She was the only person here that could truly connect with him. He'd made friends here, sure, but they all had companions and friends from their own world.

When he heard her speak up, he had a damp towel hanging around the back of his neck to keep himself cool. Pulling it away, he dabbed at the side of his face with a chuckle. He knew he must look like hell, and he was probably even a little sunburnt. Though he'd passed it many times, he hadn't quite yet figured out that sunscreen was a thing that people wore, here. He probably hadn't even paid enough attention to notice. In fact, he was likely to concoct a natural remedy rather than buy a tube of cream that smelled funny. "Aye, you may be right. But you - why are you hiding that face of yours under a hood?" he teased. "And why in the name of Talos are you wearing a jacket in this temperature? You'll be boiling in no time."

Serana could handle very cold weather with ease. Hotter weather was more of a challenge, and she would continue to complain about it being too hot or too cold even when it could be so much worse. Texas was different in that it remained warmer than she was used to. But even in the warmer climate she didn't like being exposed to the sun. Therefore, she continued to wear anything with a hood.

Serana hadn't had much of a desire to reach out to many of the others. At least not on a personal level. She preferred to observe them before making any sort of connection. From what she could tell, Ysmir had been his charming self and had made friends easily. That was no surprise. He was helpful and lent a hand in the worst of times. It came as no surprise to her when he had told her about his help in the Gremlin incident. While she would have liked to have helped in that situation and not be bound to a locked room, she knew the people of Tumbleweed were in good hands. He was the best man she had ever known. He would make sure they were safe.

It was good she wore the sunglasses, because for the briefest of moments her eyes gave him the once over. She wouldn't want him to witness that little mishap and comment on it. "You're getting quite red," she pointed out before continuing, "Habit." She looked around, feeling the heat from the forge and considered the warmer weather. He was right. She shrugged off the jacket and set it aside, but continued to wear the sunglasses. "Too warm, too sunny. Why can't it ever be overcast?"

He could tell from her tone she was teasing him and laughed. Setting his towel down, he scratched at his scalp with his fingers but recoiled when he found it was just a little on the tender side. "I think it's reached the skin of my head as well. Perhaps I should get a haircut. That might help." He had his hair short when he first came to Skyrim, but it'd grown almost to his shoulders and he hadn't given much thought to cutting it again.

His finger dared to swipe playfully at the bridge of her nose, which seated the glasses she was wearing. "How can you tell with such dark things over your eyes? Can you even see anything through those?" he asked, half-tempted to try them on for himself. It was rather bright out. "For once, I'm going to agree with you on the weather. Would it be wrong of me to say I wish this place would get hit by a bilizzard?"

He sat down and exhaled, allowing himself a short reprieve from the forge. Having something cool to drink would be marvelous. His project was only halfway done but he'd been working for hours. "I'm going to extinguish the forge for now. Let's go out and explore town - there is a market here. I'd like to get something to fix this sunburn issue."

Serana watched his movements, grinning a little when he pulled his hand from his head. "And you wonder why I wear hoods all the time," she teased. At the mention of cutting his hair she was quiet for a short moment before blurting out, "Not too short. I like your hair." She even reached over to run her fingers through it once. It was an innocent act, not meant to be anything more than playful. Perhaps an outsider would consider it an act of attraction.

She wrinkled her nose at his touch. "You get used to it," she said matter-of-factly and readjusted the sunglasses. A smirk slowly crept up until it changed into a full-blown grin. "Wrong? Not in the least. I'd prefer it colder. And if we got too cold we could huddle together next to a fire for warmth." Again, a purely innocent comment that could easily be mistaken for flirting. And maybe there was a hint of it in there somewhere.

Serana rested her hands on her hips, looking around at the scenery. It was so different from home. She missed the mountains. She was only grateful his house appeared so close to the lake here. It made for a nice view. She nodded in response to his plans. "Red is better to be worn."

"That was different back then," he countered with a coy smile. "This is now." Her fingers pushing through his hair actually felt rather nice. He was so accustomed to fighting and violence, to have someone touch him in such a gentle way was almost peculiar. He'd not lost his soft side, however, and he silently thanked Mara for that.

Stretching out, he discovered he was actually rather sore from working, and groaned involuntarily, though it almost sounded like a low, rumbly laugh. Smithing was honest but hard and physically grueling work. It took a good amount of muscle to pound steel into a new form, even when it was glowing red hot from the forge. A long sigh escaped and he momentarily closed his eyes. "I feel like I lost an argument with a mammoth. Every inch of me is sore. I've been out here for days just working the forge."

His complaining was playfully petty, but he finally got up and let his towel lay on the workbench outside his entryway. Stepping inside for a moment, he attempted to cleanse himself off a little and slipped into an unassuming outfit that hopefully wouldn't be too out of place in Tumbleweed. When he came back out, his hair was still looking a little messy from working but the worst of his "work self" was gone. "Ready?" he asked.

"I'm still sensitive to the sun," she pointed out. It had only been a few short months since Serana had been cured of her vampirism. Sometimes she missed the power it had rewarded her. Overall, she was happy to be done with it. Serana could be gentle. As much as she enjoyed fighting, she had a soft side. Not many people got to see it because she tended to be more sarcastic than sharing her deep, interpersonal feelings. "I step out into the light and there is still the mentality that it will hurt me," she explained. Being in the dark for so long, or else having to protect herself from the sun when out, was not something an ex-vampire could easily get past.

Serana repositioned to cross her arms. She almost looked as though she was guarding him as he rested. "You're overworking yourself," she pointed out matter-of-factly. She understood his work was important, but, "You deserve time away from your forge."

Serana merely watched him walk away without following. If he needed her to follow he would tell her. So she was content with waiting for him to return, if he decided to. When he returned she shook her head, "I'll never get used to the strange clothing they wear here. It doesn't look right." She uncrossed her arms and looked toward the road. "Ready."

He drew her into a brief embrace. "You'll adjust over time, take it easy. One little step at a time." Mentally, he kicked himself for being such an ice-brain. It had taken him a while to become accustomed to being a werewolf, when he first took the beast blood from Aela. Serana recovering from her time as a vampire would take even longer. Not the best thing you could have said, boy.

When he returned from the inside of Lakeview in a new outfit, he was a little more refreshed though he would need a decent bathing once they'd returned. Gesturing at her with a nod of his head towards the road, he took a chance and offered his hand out to her. "I'm not crossing until I know the people driving these things are going to stop completely. I've done some... research. The people that are hit by these vehicles are often seriously injured," he explained briefly.

Once the cars had all stopped, he crossed with Serana into the commercial part of town. There was a gas station just ahead, and he used a little money to purchase a couple cold water bottles for him and Serana to drink on their way to the market. Offering one of them to her, he took a swig out of his own and tied it off to his belt for easy access.

Being embraced by anyone after having been without contact for centuries, even by Ysmir, was still very strange to her. She clapped a hand on his back but didn't embrace him any further. Closeness was not her strong suit. She nodded once, "I'm well aware it will take time, Dragon boy." She added her petname for him in an effort to show his words, and his current actions, didn't not bug her.

At first, Serana hadn't noticed how he offered his hand. She had been staring off in the direction they were to take. When she took note of his hand she very casually took hold of it after he explained about people being injuries by vehicles. "Hm. It seems both those operating the contraptions and those wishing to cross the road ought to practice more caution. Due diligence."

When they had finally crossed, Serana released his hand and walked along with him. At the offering of water Serana thanked him and took a drink. Unlike him, she decided to carry hers. It was no bother. She could drink as needed. "Water in a bottle. If we ever make it back to Skyrim we should create a new industry."
