Another reality again. The temporal & spatial displacement is interesting (absolutely theoretically possible, but different from last time). The tech mostly seems old school, well, not old for 2017, but a few things aren't what I knew 2017 to have. Like the network and some things I saw when I first arrived. Network being still around. And looking good.

Which... I know some people are here? But no Slav, still waiting for Slav. Or someone to go by Sven.

Is earth your planet? Because not all planets have the same level of technology. It's a large universe. So old school earth, not the same as old school... other planets.

Yeah, so not my planet, or even my galaxy. I grew up on Coruscant. but I've been to a lot of other planets too.

Are you from earth?

I have not strictly been keeping count of all the other planets I've been to. Once we were traveling regularly, shrug.

Yes! Home planet. And we were much closer to this level of tech than traveling between galaxies. It looks like they have been to the moon and explored most other planets in the system with probes at least. So, a bit behind, but not vastly behind most of the planet, or even the Garrison.

That's fair. I've been to a bunch that I'm sure I've forgotten cause I've pretty much traveled around most of my life.

Yeah, technically my home universe doesn't do much travelling between galaxies, but I guess that's what getting brought here is for. What's the Garrison?

You always end up forgetting something. And then it's like yeah, and that's our cow.

There was traveling across a large part of the universe. Especially with wormholes, it's quick to jump between them. But even the Galra did it the slower way. The Galaxy Garrison was the most advanced scientific organization on earth. It was about exploration and science, expanding where we traveled and what we learned. Which is all well and good except for being lying jerks.

Wormholes does seem easier than hyperspace jumps. I mean, maybe it isn't, but it feels like there'd be less charting or whatever.

So you're an explorer then? I mean, I'm assuming the lying jerks part belongs to someone not you.

In my experience with it, it takes a great deal of energy channeled through a device made of a rare substance that is DANGEROUS to get (ask Keith more about that, he and Hunk got the scaultrite but Hunk's not here). And on top of that it takes an Altean of certain abilities to activate it. So it's not exactly the most accessible form of travel. There is some work, to control where you go (and believe me you do NOT want to fly out from the middle of the wormhole, please use your planned exit point). How do hyperspace jumps work? Is it faster than light travel that still travels through space? That's a broad category, so even within that I am still interested in knowing more.

I am an explorer. My whole family is. And well, since joining Voltron, pretty much everyone I know is by default. I didn't mean me, but I have lied before, and I am sure Commander Iverson would have bad things to say about me. But I try not to be a jerk.

That may be outside my skill level to explain, but the short version is really that hyperdrives tend to create ripples in space time, and then we can jump into hyperspace. Stuff exists there, like, you don't want to get too close to stars or black holes or whatever, so calculations are pretty damn important. Most people stick to established routes, but a good navigator can route their own.

Same. I'm sure I've offended someone, but I generally try to be a decent person. I'm Anakin, by the way.

Most people here can probably drive cars and could say a combustion engine produces the energy to move them with hydrocarbons, but yeah many, possibly even a majority, of people who use a technology can't explain it to its roots. Which is probably a good thing, or tech wouldn't spread as easily. And huh, ripples, suppose that means you're still flying through space time, so yeah you don't want to fly into things. Sounds accessible! Which is exciting.

Oh, I'm Pidge! Nice to meet you. And trying seems like a good way to get through a universe of very different people. Or a small town. Sometimes it doesn't feel that different.

I mean, if I understood how hyperspace worked, I'd be working on making an X-wing for here. I'm not that good at it.

I guess my experience has been that places have a lot of similarities for all their differences. There may be shifts in cultural expectations or whatever, but people need a lot of the same sort of things regardless.

Yet. Since hyperspace does work and does exist, that means we can grasp it, even if we have to start farther back.

True. That's been a unifying factor in the universe I'm from. We can be different and get along, help each other. Plus it's great to see how different cultures developed looking at science and the universe. It isn't always the same, the paths they've gone down. Which just makes me rethink a lot of assumptions.

Fair point. I was thinking about taking Engineering next year at University. But I guess there's nothing to say it couldn't be worked on before that.

What's the most interesting place you've ever been?

Science is always doable. Whatever you want, whenever. Well, you might need equipment, etc, and school can make that affordable (or accessible). But honestly, it's still doable. Especially thought experiments and figuring out the math.

Hmm. Possibly the space time pocket? Or been NEAR might have been the base located at the safe spot near a supergiant star between two black holes. I didn't get to go down there myself, but it's one of the most interesting physics interactions I've seen in space. How about you?

Wow, that sounds kind of fantastic, honestly.

The Maw is a black hole cluster near Kessel - it's pretty unstable and mostly people can't navigate it, but some take the risk anyway, and Force users have a better chance than most. I've never actually navigated it, but I've been in. The Jedi had a group of kids staying in there for a while to keep them protected.

There's loads of interesting planets though, like Dac is largely water, and Ithor was beautiful.

Black holes have only had the barest understanding scientifically where/when I come from, really. Admittedly their nature to suck in all matter interferes a lot with actually studying them in detail. But they do have such powerful effects on space time around them. The Maw sounds like a fantastic place to study! Or to hide from other people, yes. That seems to be a recurring theme. HIDE NEAR THE REALLY DANGEROUS PHYSICS SHIT. Pretty good defensive shield.

On the interesting but also terrifying note, we visited one planet that was shedding its skin (ie most mass/ground as we'd know it) and UNDERNEATH that it was all acid. Like, get dissolved acid. We helped its inhabitants get to their safe destination. They'll have to wait until their planet grows its new skin to move back down there.

But wow, a water world, or larger than the 70% we have here. Any idea what percentage we're talking? And if it's really light on tectonic activity, that sounds totally feasible. There is SO MUCH out in the universe... multiverse.

Yeah, there were definitely scientists in our galaxy that were interested in it. And of course people liked to hide in there although I don't want to think about how many thought they could make it through it, but not.

Okay, that's insane. I've never heard of a planet doing that before, and talk about inconvenient if that was your planet. But It's good you were there to help them out it sounds like.

You mean here for the water?

I believe people like exploring, going new places, finding new things, expanding our understanding. So I can understand wanting to do something like that. But having watched the best combination of ship/pilot we had at the time navigating those wonky gravitational fields (and having been given the safest path), yeah, I'd rather be curious from a safe distance.

A lot of planets I've seen in the universe do not always follow the most logical conclusions of physics as I understood/stand them. For example, by physics, objects generally end up round (with some y'know wiggle room, not perfect spheres all the time). But while there is a general round base, I've seen a lot of planets with ridges and other shapes that come out wildly from the more general spherical shape. Figuring that out hasn't been my highest priority though.

I know about earth fairly well. I meant your water world. Were there any land masses whatsoever above water? Or was everything below it? It sounds fascinating.

I think I'd only go in if I had to. But I'm not really a scientist persay. Maybe an Engineer, in the right circumstances. I'm kind of thinking about exploring that if I do university here.

Right, of course. So Mon Calamari, or Dac sometimes is what the locals is basically I don't know, mostly water. There are some reefs and there are some islands, but they're not huge by any means. The above water cities tend to be built around those islands but also sometimes just build out from them on the surface of the water. It depends a bit on the city. There are two main species, and one lives a lot deeper than the others. Admiral Ackbar was a friend of my family and its his home world.

Engineering is always good. No matter where you go, stuff needs to get put together practically. I've learned some myself, but I guess we all become engineers if enough stuff gets thrown at us? How's school been here for you?

That sounds truly incredible. It'd be amazing to visit there. Living underwater would not be terribly different from living in space.

Kinda weird, cause it's not remotely like what I have at home, but also good. The most interesting things are actually social history stuff that isn't the same as home. Most of the tech stuff is not really that advanced.

It isn't the most advanced tech, no, but I'm going to work on doing things with it I never bothered to at home. Or utilizing this level stuff. It's old, it's not that advanced, but it's amazing that people invented it. And what they did with it. IMO. Ada Lovelace is amazing.

Oh definitely. I am interested in learning more about the multiverse! Short answer: yes. Probably the most common are the Galra sentinels. Which, ha, hacked one of them to be helpful after it refused. But there's also the security bots that I adopted Rover from. They aren't... all over the place? Mostly in the Galra Empire, but they also have been oppressing the universe for 10,000 years, so I imagine they've worked to keep many technologies out of other people's hands. :/ That's never good for science.

Oh, yeah, that's not good for science. You've got to be able to explore things and take them apart and stuff to move forward.

I know they have accessed and used massive amounts of resources for their own stuff, but honestly they've missed out on so much innovation. Exactly! People have to be allowed to do that! Everyone!
