You fall asleep tonight; easier than usual, even if you’re an insomniac, a child of the night. Head on your pillow, on graveyard dirt, on cobblestone, on a bar table—you’re out like a snuffed candle—wherever you are. Perhaps you even fall asleep happily, for the first time in ages. A troubled mind quieted by lucid images far-fetched good memories, or an unshakable mind merely reviewing the scenes of their gratitudes. But as you rest, something calls to you. Something crawls to you. Something reaches out to you in the the serenity of sleep and dreams; it seizes you. You awake in a different dream, precisely where you fell asleep. … but you know that this is somewhere different. You can feel it. Give in to what you cannot fight. |
