Summary: Aeonar is a dangerous place, to be sure, which houses more than mere prisoners within its walls. It is here that those Warden Mages turned over to the Chantry by Igraine have been sent. It is here that the group must travel and find a way to break into, and out of, the notorious prison in order to free them.
The Wardens and their party had already been on the road for several days, since leaving behind the boat which had taken them much of the distance. It had cut down on the length of the journey, but it was still more than considerable. They had left the last village behind the day before and stocked up on enough supplies to get them through the rest of their trip, hopefully. At least they had more than one amongst their number who were able to hunt and track, thus providing them with protein other than what they could carry.
The trek was doubtless trying on many of their members. Especially for those mages who knew precisely what they would be walking into; a place that would be a great trial on their wills, where the veil was thin and demons lingered, and even those without magic were susceptible to possession.
No doubt many of them were afraid of what they might find there, in Aeonar, aside from the missing Warden Mages. They could not know what was on the minds of their companions as they traveled the uneven road. A place where few, if any, wagons or foot traffic passed. There was no reason for most people to come this far, and no doubt if anyone ran across them, they might be more than a bit suspicious. But few asked questions of the Grey Wardens that could not be answered with “Darkspawn” and left at that.
They’d set out early this morning after breaking camp, working through the chill and damp of the early hours, slogging through the swampy muck where the road had fallen into disrepair, or disappeared altogether. Checking their course against their maps with the aid of those who could take flight, their shapeshifting mages, and those who were skilled at tracking and finding trails. It was slow going, but the group made good progress when working together. It seemed as if everything would go according to plan, until one of their party halted them, catching sounds in the foliage alongside the road. They were not alone…
