Thread: The Long Goodbye
Who: Anyone.
When: Solis 6, over the course of the morning and afternoon
Where: All over the Arling.
Rating: E - M
Summary: A time to say goodbye.
“It will be nice to have all of the kids out of the house.” Alistair quipped. A sly, smug smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as he looked down from the walls of the keep and out over his domain.
He could not see Bethany roll her eyes, but from long practice, he could tell when she did it. She actually shifted her weight, as if rolling her eyes took the combined effort of all of her body. “They aren’t all leaving.” She pointed out, the perpetual spoilsport.
Alistair gave a one shouldered shrug and made a non-committal noise that he knew would exasperate her. Today the Wardens and their travelling companions were setting out, ideally. They were briefed that morning and adequately provisioned for their journey so there was nothing left to do except say their goodbyes. While there was no set time to leave the keep, now was the time to deal with personal matters…or else leave them undone.
Perhaps that was a bit maudlin of a thought, but he knew all there was to know about things left unsaid. Maybe that was why he talked so much now, maybe it was why even though he talked so much, he still said little of import. But he was not up here to delve deep into his complicated self, to ferret out the smallest morsels of remorse or regret and revisit them. Instead, he was up here to say goodbye in his own way. The only way he knew how.
“Well, Bethany, I’ll miss you when you’re gone.” He crossed his arms against his chest.
She blinked in confusion, “I’m not leaving.”
Alistair sighed, “A man can dream, can’t he?”
She, having an older brother and a twin, knew how to handle men when they were acting like boys. Bethany huffed, rolled her eyes, threw up her hands and just so happened to lightly smack him in the arm while she did that. Alistair obliged her, rubbing his arm and complaining as if it had hurt. They stayed in companionable silence for some time before heading back into the Keep.
(ooc note: please feel free to post any goodbyes or other such partings between characters that are being separated to go on quests. Each will have a separate subthread, and can take place at any time between the morning of the 6th and the early afternoon. They can be placed anywhere in the arling, so don’t feel compelled to have it only at the keep. The threads will count for activity!)
