Revelation
Who: Aidan and Lochlan
Where: The Pub
When: Afternoon
Despite the horrid weather, Aidan went out to find Lochlan. He wasn’t at the house, so he went to try the pub, hoping that he’d managed to stay warm and dry. By the time he arrived there, he was soaked and he was left hoping he didn’t smell like wet dog. Or dog at all. He’d have to ask Sylvia the next time he saw her. “Loch?” he called out as he stepped inside. The pub itself was closed to patrons, due to the lack of power, but that didn’t mean that his family wouldn’t be around.
Lochlan had awakened beside Eily. Under the table by the fire. She was still sleeping and he tried not to think too much about how she looked there like that in the firelight. He was preparing to leave when he smelled another wolf. It wasn't Patrick so he was curious, sort of hoping it wasn't Jack, Lily's brother, finally come to confront him about his relationship with his sister. Then he heard the voice, clear as day as though it were there beside him and he recognized Aidan. That was confusing at best. He walked until he saw his cousin. "Hey, Eily's back there sleeping. What's up?"
It was weird to know that the scent he was catching was Lochlan. Even with the distance between them, his cousin was distinctly a werewolf and he suspected that Lochlan would pick up the same from him. “Do you have a few minutes?” he asked, eyes ticking to the other person in the room, Eily fast asleep. If she was warm and safe, then he didn’t want to bother her. “I need to talk to you about something.”
Lochlan's brow furrowed. So much closer to Aidan now, he distinctly smelled another wolf. So Aidan had likely made friends with a werewolf. Considering how many people had been at the wolf encampment, it wasn't surprising in the least. Still, there was a quality to the smell that seemed different. Like it hadn't been transferred onto him. That made his brain hurt to wonder about, so he didn't even bother. He nodded at Aidan. "Sure, what's on your mind, man?" he asked, his tone quiet, mindful of Eily.
Aidan headed over to the bar and poured himself a beer. It was late enough in the day now that it seemed acceptable and he really needed one after the day he’d been having. He poured one for Lochlan as well, setting it on the other side of the counter. It was weird to be on the inside with Lochlan on the outside. “I’m sure you’ve figured it out, but I’m a werewolf now,” he said, taking a sip of his beer and hoping Lochlan didn’t feel the desire to punch him.
Lochlan put both his hands around the beer, looking down at it for a moment before deciding to drink it. He was mid-sip when Aidan told him the news and he paused but then finished his swallow. Putting the beer down, he gave his cousin a long look. If his mind hadn't been so clouded with what had happened a short while ago with Eily, he might have actually put those pieces together. Instead he'd chosen not to think about it. It made sense of everything now though. "Well, do we smoke a cigar of celebration or something?" he asked with a ghost of a smile. "Can I ask how or why?"
The tension released in Aidan’s shoulders and he gave Lochlan a smile. “No need to celebrate. I just wanted you to hear it from me, rather than someone else.” Eily could have told him, but she knew Aidan was going to try and make the rounds. At some point he needed to hit up Avery and Fiona, but he wasn’t in quite as big a hurry to track them down. “I had a friend of mine bite me and that worked,” he explained. “I did it because I wanted to and because there was someone I was looking for and being a werewolf made it easier.”
That was probably a good thing. Lochlan didn't feel like celebrating. Not because he wasn't happy for Aidan if that was what Aidan wanted, but he was emotionally drained and didn't see himself being fun at all for any kind of celebration. "I appreciate that. Thank you for that." He nodded at Aidan's explanation, drinking more of his beer. He could see himself maybe deciding to do the same for a similar reason. It would have to be a pretty dire circumstance for him to have braved it, but Aidan was cut from a different cloth. "I hated it at first, but being a wolf is probably one of the best experiences. You found your someone?"
“Yeah, getting used to the new senses was tough, but now that I’m past that it’s pretty cool.” He didn’t have to worry about the full moon like Lochlan did, even if he’d been there for his cousin in any way he could. He’d been worried, but he knew it would have been worse if it had been him in the cage. “I did,” he said with a little smile. “I found her, so I know she’s safe and… yeah.” He wasn’t sure what Lochlan knew about Sylvia, but he was crazy about the girl and it showed in his face, even if he said very little.
The senses had definitely thrown Lochlan for a loop. He nodded in agreement with Aidan on that. When Aidan started talking about Sylvia, Lochlan felt his mouth turn up a bit at the corners in a ghost of a smile. That was a good look on Aidan, but he wasn't sure he'd ever seen it before on his cousin's face or at least not in his recent memory. "You got it bad. Good for you, man. I'm glad you found her. Is Pat going to make us have a family dinner?" He paused for a second, a thought occurring to him. His tone was only curious when he asked, "Have you told Patrick? Or Eily?"
“Oh God, no,” Aidan said, shaking his head. “I haven’t told Pat about Sylvia. A family dinner would be a bad idea. One on one might work, but she and Darcy don’t get along and she’s really not great with groups of people. But yeah, I… that’s probably accurate.” He did have it bad; there was no question about it. Just thinking about Sylvia made his heart beat a bit faster. “I told ‘em both this morning, plus Darcy last night. I haven’t had a chance to catch up with Fiona and Avery.” Though he didn’t think it would affect them quite as much, he still needed to tell them.
Lochlan nodded. "So she's kind of different." Leave it to Aidan to find the different one. Good for him. Especially because she made him look like that. Lochlan would have given anything to have that. It seemed, maybe not simple, but not as complicated as what he was going through and he envied Aidan for that. He also heard his cousin's heart pick up some and gave him a knowing look. "Wow, so Sylvia. Well good for you, Aidan. A long time coming - you finding that kind of happy." He was genuinely happy for his cousin.
“Different is a good word to describe her,” Aidan said with a knowing smile. It was probably better to downplay Sylvia’s differences. Lochlan would hear about them eventually, either from Eily or Darcy, if either decided to get into that. “Thanks, though. I didn’t know how you’d take the news, so your support means a lot to me.” He cast a glance towards Eily, wondering if she was waking, then back to Lochlan. “I’m gonna go check on the brewery, make sure the storm didn’t find it’s way in. Catch up with you later?”
Lochlan was fine with ending the conversation. He had no energy for it even though he liked Aidan. It was kind of a godsend the other guy felt the need to cut it short himself. Lochlan nodded. "Yeah, catch up with you later." Without waiting for a response, Lochlan took off out into the storm and away from the pub.
