I It Congratulations to Steve and Adaar. I wish both of you plenty of success and trust that you'll be the leaders that the people think you'll be.

FILTERED TO CLONE CLUB + FOGGY:

Well! I've got lots of free time coming up, then.

Steve's being honest with you. We want to work with you, and some things are about to be restructured so power is more evenly distributed.

I know that losing hurts, but don't retreat like that. You gave me shit for acting like being masculine was more important, but now you're talking about something traditionally feminine to put yourself down and act like you don't matter as much.

It was a close race. Steve was going to win no matter what, everyone knows that, and with everyone else gone it came down to us. We both know that. If I didn't try to keep working with you after all this, if I didn't try to give you more power or ask you for advice, I'd be making a mistake.

I suppose if I'd latched on to Steve's coattails I might have had a shot at winning, too.

I was trying to be nice to you, but if you want to feel bad for yourself because you didn't win against a freak like me, you're welcome to it.

That's what it's been about for you, hasn't it? You just want someone normal in charge? Someone human? Because I couldn't possibly understand the needs of real people, being some ox-brained beast who needs Steve's coattails to win, I'm sure.

I won't pretend working with Steve didn't help, but I didn't force him to run with me, and people were more than free to vote for him or for you and not to vote for me. We worked together, but neither of us said an unkind word about you. We supported you. We praised the things you said. So I'm sorry that you lost to a monster, but it's not a personal insult against you. You'll live. Don't throw Steve's kindness back in his face because you're hurting.

[...] What?

I don't care about the horns on your head, I care that you're some kind of Messiah in your world and you have magical powers. I care that you and Steve are military leaders, and together you two are bound to forget that the rest of us aren't, and sometimes we need more than military strategy to get us all through the day.

I'm humiliated because I It's just a case of

When I said someone normal I meant someone without extraordinary powers or some kind of self-important title. You're arrogant, you walk around like you already own this place, and now you're talking down to me.

Yes. We are bound to forget, which is why we've consistently extended an olive branch to you even while we were running against you. That you won't take it is your problem, not ours. You can't complain that your priorities are off and then reject our attempts to make up for that.

I've put the work into this place. I've organized people, as have you. I've taken charge in a crisis when people needed it and I lost a limb defending this place. If I'm confident, it's because I've earned it.

Do you think my magic got me ahead in my life? Ever? That I'm a mage and that I'm Qunari are two massive points against me at home. When they tell stories of the Inquisitor long after I'm dead, they'll conveniently erase both of those facts, just as they did to my predecessor, and any religious connotation with my title was given to me entirely without my desire or my consent. I earned my title. I've earned my place here. I won't apologize for myself.

We're working on some restructuring, as I've mentioned. When we're ready to speak to the public, I'm going to make you an offer and ask you to advocate for the exact people who you claimed to represent in the election. If you were honest, and this conversation wasn't just some temporary bitterness, then you'll take it. If you throw it back in my face, then you have no one to blame but yourself.

You don't know me very well, nor have you been listening to me, if you think I'm going to forget about the rest of you. I told you that I still wanted to work with you because everyone is important to me. I meant that, Alison. The people here are the entire reason I do any of this at all. Same as at home. I've always fought for everyone else. For the people without powers, for the people without a shield to hide behind. I'm not going to forget where I came from.

You thought it'd be different here.

You did have support, Alison. More than you realize, I think. This wasn't settled before it began, or people wouldn't have voted for anyone at all. People believed in you - and I imagine they still do now. I wouldn't have tried to extend a branch if I didn't take you seriously, or if you weren't important. But I'm also not going to sit back and let anyone talk about me like that, regardless of how they feel. That's not who I am. We can still work together. We should still do that. If anyone stepped into this position and shut out the people who didn't support them, they'd be the wrong person for the job.
