Santo (backdated to Saturday early AM in their room)
Kevin was lying there in the first faint light of a wintery dawn, eyes still shut and grinning like an idiot as he tried to process the fact that he wasn't just back in the same time zone with Josh, he was in the same damn building. And, oh yeah, they'd spent the entire afternoon and evening and part of the night together yesterday and they'd probably be able to spend pretty much the whole damned day together today.

As soon as he managed to not be an asshole to his roommate. Who he'd definitely been a total asshole to yesterday. Which was kind of not okay, and he definitely felt bad for, given he'd pretty much run in, dropped his stuff on what he'd assumed was his bed, said 'hi' and 'bye' almost in one breath and bolted back out the door to find Josh. He'd talked with the guy a little bit - and rock dude, how seriously cool was that? - when he'd come back in, significantly after curfew and lucky not to have been caught, but he'd been giddy and wiped and had crashed pretty quick. So now it was probably well past time to try to convince the guy he wasn't a complete douche.

Really.

As soon as he stopped lying there grinning like a loon. Yep. He totally had this whole not being an asshole thing covered. He kicked off his sheets and rolled out of bed, tugging his gloves and sleeves back into place out of habit as he did so.

"So. Hey." He smiled a bit sheepishly and waved at the guy. "I promise I'm not usually a total douche?"

	"So you're, like, really rock, not just...something organic that looks like rock?" He thought someone might have said something about that yesterday when he was getting his 'orientation', but he hadn't really been paying much - any - attention, too focused on wondering where Josh was and what he was doing and how long until he could get away and find him. 	Santo nodded and knocked his knuckles on his head for emphasis. It made a nice and satisfying thwack of rock on rock. "Not rock-like, or rock-covered. Just rock. Mostly granite but there's some sandstone down on the back side. I had some lichen, but it's mostly gone now." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"That's...kind of awesome, actually." He dropped back down onto the edge of his bed, facing Santo and fiddling with the bright red med-alert bracelet he was wearing on the outside of his clothes for the next few weeks. At least until he was pretty sure everyone around him knew to avoid any chance of accidentally touching him.

"Are those quartz crystals, then?" He grinned and gestured vaguely at Santo, meant to indicate the sparkling flecks catching the light all over him.

"Pretty sweet deal. You don't need jewelry, you've got it built right in." He pulled his legs back up onto his bed and crossed them tailor fashion, the propped his elbows on his knees.

"Guess I know why they put us together. You've made the incredibly short list of people I can't actually hurt." Which was actually kind of incredibly amazing, and he couldn't help grinning even broader. He'd never had a room-mate who was - or should be - immune to his powers.

Santo had heard beforehand what Kevin's powers were. No complex details, just the basics. Enough for him to know that he was safe but his lichen wasn't (and if Kevin wanted to get rid of any, he was welcome to) and that if he had organic materials of any kind, he should be careful with them. Then again, his sheets and clothes were all made of super tough synthetics that could handle constant friction against rock, so that left his books and he'd shelved them all on his side.

"Yeah, seems like a good match to me," Santo agreed. "Just, you know, so you don't worry? My clothes and blankets and stuff are all safe for you to touch. No cotton for me. I tried felted wool once, but I ripped a hole right through it."

"Yeah, I guess the wear and tear have to be kind of brutal." He caught his lip between his teeth, thinking for a moment. "So...you wouldn't mind if I took my gloves off, then?" he asked, more than a little tentative. He never took anything off if someone else was in the room, just to be safe, but if he couldn't actually do anything to hurt Santo then it might be all right.

"If there's anything I do need to watch out for just tell me," he added quickly. "I'm really good at not touching." Anything. Or anyone. Ever.

"Books and magazines mostly," Santo said, looking around. "I'm pretty hard on them myself. My school books are sturdy too and I got all my posters laminated back home."

He spotted one shelf and nodded. "Okay, the baseball glove is off limits, but I never touch it myself anyhow. Other than that? Yeah, take your gloves off, relax a bit. And any lichen you find is fair game. Hate that stuff."

"I'll stay well clear of the shelves," he promised. He hesitated a second longer then stripped his gloves off methodically, laying them flat against each other and then running them restlessly through his hands. He felt...strangely naked and exposed, actually.

"Okay, this is...kind of weird, actually. In six years these have pretty much only come off to change them, to shower, or for training. Or, well, not this exact pair." He directed a vaguely sheepish smile Santo's way. "You get the idea."

"Yeah, okay. You are officially the best room-mate ever." Kevin grinned, sudden and bright, and tucked the gloves into the front pocket of his sweats, on the opposite side from the extra pair he always had on him. "So how long have you been here? I'm pretty sure I'd remember if you'd been around back when I was." Because it was pretty hard to imagine ever forgetting a giant rock guy. "But that still leaves a lot of time."

	"Been here about a year," Santo told him. "I tried living at home and my folks are great about their son being a mountain and all, but we live in this apartment in New York... "Yeah, that had to be a bit cramped," he agreed, rubbing his hands absently and restlessly along his pants legs. His gloves were really high quality and as breathable as they could be made, but it was still so much nicer (and strange as hell) to just not have them on for a while. "Not like I could really stay home with this either." He held up a hand and shrugged. "But this place is pretty great. All of the specialty schools are, really, at least the ones I've been to."

	"This one first, for my first year," Kevin answered. "Then they, uh, sent me back to the Savannah campus when I was twelve. After, um, an accident." He grimaced faintly and looked down as he hurried on. "Yeah, it is," he agreed. "They were all good, though, so it's not that big a deal. But I do have the absolute perfect roommate now, plus my boyfriend's been here the whole time. So-" He grinned again, quick and bright and so obviously happy. "It'd be incredibly stupid to move me again. And I wouldn't go anyway," he added. He sounded cheerful and possibly joking about it, but he meant it; he was starting to feel like a ping pong ball. Besides, he'd promised Josh.

"Yeah. Lots of distance and stupid amounts of time on skype and IM and texting. Yesterday was the first time we've even been on the same coast in almost two years." He was still grinning wide enough it was almost a wonder his face didn't split, but a faint blush was creeping up his neck as well.

"Which was, um...why I ran off like a total douche yesterday." And didn't come back until stupidly late. And was really lucky he hadn't gotten caught and started out with even more demerits on his record.

Because he'd honest to god just told someone Josh lived down the hall. "He's a healer."
