This wasn't going to be pleasant, he could tell. Or rather, some would find it distinctly unpleasant. The ones that didn't ... well, that would tell him quite a bit indeed. Even if he could somewhat see the purpose in interviewing Potter again, he didn't seriously think the boy had murdered Albus Dumbledore. The kid had lived through a direct attack by You-Know-Who. Why would he kill the only person You-Know-Who was afraid of?
He looked around the gathering, glad, at least, that this was the usual Monday morning assembly rather than a special meeting.
"All right, folks, let's get started," he said. "Updates on current cases? Shacklebolt, why don't you start us off."
As he listened to each report, he nodded, made notes, and was only paying half-attention. When he finally got through Williamson, he then asked for everyone's attention.
"As you've no doubt heard by now, we've had a bit of a change in the administration. Minister Scrimgeour has resigned from his duties and has been replaced by our own Pius Thicknesse. I'm sure you all join me in wishing former Minister Scrimgeour all the best." Pity he couldn't actually tell anyone where the man was. They were clever. They'd figure out the conclusion he'd come to on their own. "Of course, that leaves a gap in our Department. As his replacement, Minister Thicknesse has chosen Yaxley, of the Wizengamot Administration Services."
There were murmurings at that, and he couldn't blame them. After a moment, they quieted, when he became obvious he had more to say.
"I haven't yet met with Department Head Yaxley, but I'm sure he'll do a bang up job."
He even managed to say that with a straight face. Maybe he was decent at this politics shite.
"Also, in my meeting with Minister Thicknesse yesterday, he drew my attention to a case that has not been solved. I'm sure you are all wondering what really happened the night Albus Dumbledore died, and I will be assigning two or three of you to that case. I know former Minister Scrimgeour took that case on personally, but Minister Thicknesse feels we shouldn't let it fall by the way side, and I know you all agree." So far, so good. This was going to be the kicker, though. "And in that vein, we will be interviewing the witnesses as soon as possible, beginning with Harry Potter."
He didn't need to say that he was supposedly now their prime suspect. He saw it in their eyes, and he waited for the shite to hit the fan.
