Questions
Hello, everyone. As most of you have probably heard, some of us raided the pirate ship the other night. We came away with a fair quantity of dried beans and salted meat, as well as at least one barrel of water, bolts of various cloths.
Can anyone add anything to my (probably incomplete) summation of what we have available?
There are cows and sheep on the island. And rabbits. Unfortunately, no chickens. Any chickens left behind when the island was abandoned didn't survive. But there are seabirds nesting on the cliffs. Anyone up for climbing the cliffs to steal eggs?
A few of us saved some seeds from the feast--tomato, pepper and green onions in my case. What else?
I've found wild blackberries growing in various places, as well as sloe and rowan. The latter two are rather bitter, but can be turned into gin (sloe) or jam (the rowan), among other things. I've heard that dried rowan beans can substitute for coffee beans, but I've never tried it and I'm skeptical. Anyone else? We're not going to find coffee plants growing here, sadly.
The gardens of the abandoned cottages were well worth exploring. There are potatoes, carrots, parsnips, turnips, beetroots and yams growing wild in some of them. Not a lot of them, but enough that we should be able to plant more.
If you've discovered something I haven't mentioned, please comment so we know what we've got to work with.
