Thread: Mystery in the Forest
WHO: Adrian and open to anyone
WHERE: The woods
WHEN: Wednesday after school
It had been on Adrian's run on one of the paths through the woods after school that he had first noticed it. He'd paused to take a quick sip of the water bottle he'd been carrying with him when he sensed something. Adrian looked to his left, in the woods, but there was nothing there save for the normal sights of the forest, trees, plantlife, birds, etc. He was feeling something though, something he couldn't see, a presence of sorts, or at least the remnants of a presence. He felt drawn toward it. Sensibility won out over his curiosity though, so Adrian looked around for landmarks to make note of the spot so he could return. Finding nothing memorable, he instead quickly gathered up a small pile of sticks and arranged them on the side of the path in a way he was sure to remember, then continued on his run.
It wasn't until Adrian was back at the school, walking toward the Ladon dorm that he made a connection in his head. He was walking past the rehabilitating Ladon garden and remembering the school field trip a while back. He, along with the other students, had seen a fairy circle, and Adrian had danced around it. He remembered that feeling, the power and influence of the circle, the instinctual way he had danced, the feeling like he'd been following in the footsteps of who knows how many of his kinsfolk from times passed. Adrian realized he'd felt something similar in the woods earlier, that similar sort of presence. He'd wondered before about other fae at the school. Had he come across an area that one or more had travelled? Perhaps in a ritual sort of way, like that fairy circle?
The questions were too much of a temptation for Adrian, and the young fairy found himself going back out into the woods immediately after dinner. He was running, though it was because of anticipation this time rather than exercise, and arrived back at the spot several minutes later, recognizing the pile of sticks he'd left. Adrian tried to mentally calm himself down. He looked into the woods, listening, focusing all of his senses. He could feel that same vague sensation of familiarity, but nothing more.
Adrian toed off his shoes and left his hoodie on top of them. He pushed his wings out from his body, face screwing up in discomfort as he did so. He stretched them out, silvery, dragonfly-like wings. He took to his wings, fluttering as he hovered in place. Adrian again tried to center himself, closing his eyes and reaching out with his senses. Yes. A fairy or fairies had been here. He didn't know how he knew, but he knew. Maybe it had been recently, maybe a long, long time ago. Adrain had no idea. He opened his eyes and focusing on what he felt, he began to move, following the trail. After a short time, he could feel a rhythm to his movements and paid attention to that, focused on that. There was a dance here, and Adrian followed it, falling into step with the memories from the forest of what had come before.
