PB: Priyanka Chopra
Team: Alpha
Role: Damage #3
Codename: Tesla
Powers: Electromagnetism manipulation. The ability to manipulate electromagnetic forces, and consequently affect both magnetic and electric fields. Given her present level of training, her power has been predominantly displayed through the following means:

Electrical Absorption & Conductivity - As a living conduit, her body can withstand high voltages, making her nearly invulnerable to electricity. She is not capable of generating her own electricity and must draw power from an existing source, acting as a human battery, though there is a limit to how long she can retain a high charge before it must be expelled. She can discharge it in various forms, such as bolts and bombs (held together by a magnetic field).

Magnetism Manipulation - Limited control over magnetic fields. She can manipulate magnetic metal objects (made of iron, nickel, cobalt and their alloys), and generate small-scale defensive force fields around herself and those in close physical proximity. The larger the metal object and field, the greater strain it puts on her body to alter; overexertion of her powers can lead to acute physical and mental fatigue. She can also "sense" magnetic fields, allowing her to detect metal objects and the natural magnetic auras around living beings.

Electromagnetic Infusion/Emission - Can infuse an object with electromagnetism, using it to attract and repulse magnetic metals, as well as discharge a limited amount of electricity or an EM pulse. Can also produce a surge of electromagnetic energy, which can disrupt and disable nearby technology. If not in direct contact with a specific object, she is liable to unselectively short out everything within range.

Electrical Adhesion - AKA static cling; can crawl, walk, run up walls and impart adhesive fields to others/objects using static electricity. Must be in physical contact to induce a charge and cannot extend her personal adhesion to carry masses beyond her own body weight. Infrequently used and wears off when the object is grounded.

Telepathic Resistance - While not immune to telepathy, the fluctuation of electromagnetic impulses in her body and brain make it difficult for her mind to be read or assaulted by telepaths and those with related abilities.
Background: TL;DR version: Divya's been with the Corps for the last 14 years. In the wake of 9/11, she was targeted by a group of racist bullies, and defended herself with her newly manifested powers. Despite being the victim of a hate crime, Divya wound up being taken into custody and eventually put into the Ghost Corps. At this point? Well, she's accepted her lot in life. She misses her family and her freedom, but at least she's not being detained in a black site prison--and she knows how easily she could be there, given how dangerous her powers can get. Divya is surprisingly well-adjusted, still a "good girl" who wants to make a positive difference, and sincere about making the best of a rather shitty situation. She tends to play by the rules, follow orders, be a good soldier, but she's compassionate and kind above all, and even a bit afraid of her own abilities. Full bio can be found here!

Ooooh, he is her handler!
Dean is not nearly as gruff as he makes himself out to be and he's very protective of and loyal to his sups, as he calls them. Most of his personality and basics are done and can be found here! :]

Well, Divya's definitely the type to make his job easier! Always been a bit of a teacher's pet/suck up to authority, and not just because she knows obedience generally means better treatment in the program. She's just boringly good and nice, and hyperaware of what kind of danger she could pose if her powers were uncontrolled and unchecked. I feel like she'd be the prime example of a super who's been screwed over by the system and tug on those sympathies he already has for their kind.

Yesssss. As someone who did a couple tours overseas after 9/11... it would piss him the hell off to see her mistreated on american soil. he would be very fond of her, i'm sure.

nothing makes her happier than being liked by her handler! or, well, that's an exaggeration, but it does mean a lot that he treats her and the others with decency and respect. more than that, with kindness. it would've come as a massive relief after he joined their team to find out that he's not an asshole.

i imagine a lot of his 'kids' are intimidated by him the first week or so, until it gets out that he's a giant freaking marshmallow, ahaha.

she's been around long enough that she's not easily intimidated, but she'd dread having to adjust to a new handler, and figure out whether he'd be a hardass who treats them like crap and pushes them too hard or not. but they lucked out with stay puft here!

ahaha, good thing they have limited internet access and probably can't do much online shopping, otherwise he'd be getting an anonymously gifted grumpy cat mug for christmas. all in good fun, of course.

hello :] this is vanessa, or nessie as she's sometimes called. codename is siren and her powers are best described here.

i'd really like something!

hiya! vanessa's story sounds really interesting. i'm not sure how much interaction there is between teams, but i think divya would feel very sympathetic towards her; she's never seriously hurt anyone by accident with her powers, but she knows she could. she treads that line between being afraid of her abilities, and thinking they could be used for good. given that nessie can't use her telepathy with divya, they'll probably have to do a lot more writing or shorthand (maybe purely in emojis) to communicate.

Kitty here is Foxtrot--has clairvoyance and premonition. She's been with Ghost Corps for most of her life, since she was a child, and she's also a good soldier, but that's only because she's low-key dead inside. But no, she kind of gave up around her teenage years, and resigned, she got used to becoming a weapon. I think it would be interesting to see them interact, for sure. Kitty can come off pretty cold and the tiniest bit stoic, but if they were friends she won't be a complete asshole.

Having the privilege, as it were, of a normal childhood and happy home life prior to incarceration is probably a key reason why Divya's so resistant to surrendering her personhood; she knows she'll probably never get out of the program alive, but she clings to the idea that she's more than just a tool. They could definitely have some interesting conversations on the subject. Divya is pretty affable and sincere, not easily put off by aloof attitudea, so there's a high chance they could be friends! She likes to get along with, or at least try to understand her peers whenever possible.

I don't think Kitty had a bad home life, I think she was just way too young, and I'm thinking her gift was experimented with a lot, and she's very much a tool. I feel like her power is one of those that is very much used, if that make sense at all. She's more of a resource, not that different like a computer. I would love them to be friends, maybe Divya's optimism will rub off on her!

Ah, yeah, Divya got to live out at least half of her life in the rest of society, so she's much more firmly rooted in her sense of identity and humanity. And I'd love that! Kitty can probably give Divya a bit of a reality check in return.

I have two Alphas (one pending, one in progress)! Blitz [info]smoothasglass is a speedster with concussive blasts, damage #1, so they share a handler. He's probably hit on her in the past, because they've both been there for several years now. He's probably also tried to get her to bend the rules, and then moved on to the next girl (sorry, he's kind of a player...) if/when she didn't. But he's a friendly guy, and he tries to be nice and chill with everyone, even if they're pissy with him for something he's done.

And Leah [info]steelyeyed isn't Divya's handler, of course, but she's the handler for the tanks and healer. They'd know each other, even if they don't work together directly all that often. Leah's determined to make her supers, and Alpha in general, the best. She'll stop at very few things to make that happen. Supers are weapons, in her opinion, and she likes wielding weapons. Not the nicest lady, but they'll get along well enough since Divya's a good sport about the situation.

I also have an Echo who'll be living on the same floor, Livewire [info]superconductive. She will probably also have hit on Divya at some point, and she's a little bit all over the place emotionally, so...yeah. But she also has electric manipulation and a metal form, so those two working or training together would be pretty amazing if they ever have had/get the chance.

Look at you go! I'm hoping to just get this one finished up and applied tonight or tomorrow. Divya's a team player and pretty forgiving, so even if they've had a past "misunderstanding" over his flirtatious behavior, there've been more than enough years to get over it. I imagine she regards Blitz, like the rest of the team, a bit like (a dysfunctional) family. Troublemaking brother, maybe.

She's probably more likely to butt heads with Leah, over the way she views them as weapons rather than people. Divya doesn't like open conflict and she'll follow orders, but if they had to work in the field together, and she saw Leah pushing anyone too hard or putting competition over their well-being, she might protest. Divya's a total softy, and I wouldn't mind if that results in Leah questioning whether she still belongs on Alpha or should be pushed off to Echo already.

Aaand I could see her and Livewire being a very odd duo! Divya's much more stable and grounded in personality, so that could either put them at grating odds, or maybe make them unexpected friends of sorts, with Divya trying to keep her out of trouble and learning to loosen up a little from her. They would definitely be a major threat on the battlefield.

Backlash is Tank #1 for Alpha, and he has been in the Ghost Corps for just under 12 years, so he will definitely know Tesla. He's generally a good soldier too, which means he'll like her work ethic, though he might be a bit more troublemaking than she is. He's pretty attached to his team members, especially those who have been around as long as or longer than him. Definitely friends, maybe with a we're-basically-family vibe?

Yes! Definitely friends after all this time, and she tends to think of her teammates as her adoptive family, whether they appreciate it or not. They're fairly close in age, I can even imagine she might've harbored a small schoolgirl crush on the pretty boy jock when he first showed up in Purgatory, but that all faded away and now he's pretty much a brother.

Any interest in an exes-turned-friends spin? Backlash doesn't do a ton of dating because it just doesn't seem practical, but if it was back when he was newer to the program he would have been less jaded about it.

I could work with that! Tesla doesn't really get involved, either--it's messy, liable to sour a team dynamic, probably not going to end well given the circumstances, etc.-but being younger then, she'd be willing to give it a try if he showed a mutual interest. No pressure, but he'd kind of be her first (and possibly only?) boyfriend (or maybe a more casual term) for a hot five seconds there. She had zero dating experience pre-program because of her conservative upbringing, and would be much more susceptible to falling in puppy love at that point.

Backlash would've had a lot more dating experience than Tesla did when they got together, but let's be honest all that did was stroke his ego. They could have had a puppy love dating period that turned into friendship after they realized they were better as friends than lovers? Backlash tends to get antsy in relationships, so he could have been the reason things ended romantically between them and if it fits that could have soured their dynamic for a bit until they worked it out in the Inferno? If they've stayed close, Tesla could be one of the few people Backlash has told about the lust/hate thing he has for his handler, Leah Steele.

That's perfect, like a 90s teen romcom dream come true for her. Nerdy girl gets the hot jock...for a little while, anyway. But as it turns out, they're really not all that compatible, though Tesla would probably think it's something wrong with her at first. Especially if he started pulling away without explanation, leading to a blowout in the Inferno. And then they can actually talk it out and become better friends for it. By now, she thinks of it all as a good learning experience (as in, don't catch feelings for people ever again), so they could probably stay close and confide in each other! She doesn't really like Leah because of how she views supers, so that bit of news will get a side-eye or two, and raise her protective hackles.
