Entry tags:team: romeo

PB: Richard Madden
Codename: Deadzone
Team: Romeo
Role: Wildcard #2
Powers:

-Power Nullification - Deadzone's power, in a nutshell, is the ability to (temporarily) deprive other supers of their own powers. He can do this in one of two ways. The easier way is to simply throw a wide nullification field out around himself, rendering any super within a 25-yard radius unable to use their powers. If more precision is required --such as on missions where his teammates need to retain their own abilities-- he can focus on one specific super and nullify their powers. Both methods are only functional for as long as he maintains his focus, though he's been able to maintain for up to 12 hours in extreme cases. Long-term usage like that, though, tends to leave him with really bitching migraines so it's a last-resort kind of deal.

-Limited Invulnerability (secondary) - Closely linked to his nullification ability is Deadzone's limited invulnerability. Any powers that are used directly on him will have no effect. Useful in a fight, but not so useful when he's gotten hurt in a fight since yes, this means that the healers' powers will have no effect on him either. However, if a super's ability manipulates the environment around them, he can still be affected by those results, such as a telekinetic throwing something, or the lightning summoned by an electrokinetic.

Evie here with character #2! Surrendered to the government as a child by his career-military father, Ethan was raised in the Poltergeist Program and took to the training like a duck to water. He's been part of Ghost Corps itself for somewhere between 10-15 years, and on Team Romeo for half that time. Hardcore believer that supers should be controlled, but outside of the brainwashing training, he's the kind of sweet, naive idiot who really just wants to see the good in everyone. Fond of sci-fi and fantasy books/films/shows, word puzzles, and Candy Crush. Will probably try to be your friend despite any and all attempts to stop him.

This is probably someone he's had to use his power nullification on a few times in the past, even just in training, and she would throw out every trick she can think of to get him to lose his focus so she can shock him. :D

Which is exactly the kind of training he's looking for! He doesn't want to use the power as a crutch so he'll be very into training to expect the unexpected, how to use actual skill to avoid being hit, and so on.

Perfect! And some days she'll play along, some days she'll be hitting on him while they fight, some days she might want to straight up murder him out of frustration at his nullification abilities.

As for my others:

Blitz obviously wants to be bros.

Leah approves of him by virtue of the fact he's a Romeo and presumably not a screw up.

Reaper is, of course, friendly with him, and wants to see how his brain works differently as a nullifier.

Medic would indifferent because he's just a grumpy old dude, but at the same time, they need some kind of line because GoT!

Oh gosh please hit on him, I'm pretty sure he's one of those people who are really good at like meaningless playful flirting but the second it gets blatantly R-rated he gets completely tongue-tied.

As for the others!
-He definitely wants all the bros, so he's all for being bros with Blitz

-Handler approval is one of the things he lives for (having been in custody since he was 6, it's basically replaced parental approval in his mind), so Leah's approval will be so important to him!

-He'll be friendly with Reaper and utterly fascinated by her powers, and has probably (jokingly, but also for serious) promised her that if he dies in the line of duty, he'll leave her his brain in his will.

-Hmm, a line for these two is a must! Ethan was surrendered to the Poltergeist program the same year Medic was recruited for GC, and became a full agent in 2001. They could grudgingly bond over so many years spent underground? He won't stop until you grudgingly accept him, Medic!

Oh, she might get quite explicit if only to get a reaction out of him. She loves reactions and attention.

-Blitz approves.

-That's one of her favorite types, so they might actually get along pretty well!

-Reaper completely appreciates his future sacrifice willingness. ♥

-15 years in is definitely long enough to have gotten on his good side! Which is, to outside appearances, not much different from his bad side, but it totally is. XD They might have philosophical differences when it comes to their program, but that's perfectly fine. :3 Yes to the bonding!

Very helpful to have around someone like Ana, that's for sure. Possibly responsible for helping to apprehend her initially?

Based on his interests, he would get along quite well with my synthetic super, ~hauntings.

Sure, I'm down with him having been on her apprehension team! He probably apologized for it afterwards, but feels absolutely no guilt because wow girl those powers are not safe out in the world.

Seriously! She probably didn't put up much of a fight. She knows she's too dangerous.

His favorite kind of super! Ethan's very much a "we're all too dangerous to be around normal people, this is for the best, blah blah" guy so he'll appreciate her pragmatism.

Haha, yeah, both of my girls so far are not the rebellious type (though for different reasons) and bad at socializing with people (also for different reasons).

Nessie would love for him to nullify her power, anytime he wants. She's transferring to Romeo soon, too, so they'll make one another's acquaintance soon I'm sure.

It's honestly not a power he likes to use a lot outside of missions and training, because he thinks it would probably not make him any friends among the other supers, but when Nessie joins the team and he gets to know her, he could be persuaded to help her out.

What can he say, he's a sucker for a pretty face and a sad story! And team bonding, wow does he love his teammates, so he'll do anything he can for them.

I have Romeo's Healer here (when transferred on the 31st). With the weird memory loss thing that happened to Romeo's Tank on their last mission, I think Charon will be looking to your guy to help out with damage mitigation in the field in a big way for a while, if he's up for the extra workload. Keepin' people alive and such in case the Tank has another 'fight club' black out moment again before he/she gets his/her head back on straight.

Oh, he'd definitely be willing to help out, especially in the aftermath of this recent mission. I think the Tank is actually his roommate, so Deadzone will have a vested interest in making sure they don't hurt anyone else in their bizarre black-out moments.

Great! Charon's just going to be zoned in on figuring out what the heck happened, fixing it if it's something medical/physical he can fix, and getting back to business as usual. So any insight from people who've known the Tank for a while should be hugely helpful. That should be some fun backstory for you to play with for those two characters, neat. : )

My second, an Echo with probability manipulation, (just tapped) has been around for seven or eight years. She's kind of in the same category of sunshine/sweet and possibly a touch naive, with lots of good heart. So I'd imagine they'd get along well.

Yeah, I'm crazy excited for these team dynamics! Ethan probably tries to have the healer's back when they're in the field most of the time anyway, so I feel like he'd be inclined to defer to Charon's judgment regarding the Tank/anything else anyway.

It sounds like he and your Echo would get along so well! And he'd love her probability manipulation, it sounds so cool.

His codename is my favorite codename of all the codenames!

Pixie is soon to be transferring to Romeo as the replacement Wildcard, so she and Deadzone will get to know each other. If they don't know each other already, which is possible because Pixie has been a Poltergeist since she was old enough, and she's been a Ghost ever since she was old enough to be one of them. Buddies?

Backlash is always happy to be friends, though he thinks his power nullification is a mean bitch to get around in Inferno.

Who would want to be friends on the surface until he learned what Deadzone's power was, and then he would not want to be friends. x: Power nullifiers are very high on Nick's list of things to be afraid of, because his abilities are such an integral part of who he is.

Gorgon is brand new, and totally disagrees with him about controlling supers. Like, how dare he even think that in her presence! So they might have squabbling ahead of them?

It's my favorite one I've come up with, too!

I'm totally cool with he and Pixie already knowing each other, I love the idea of former Poltergeist buddies who've kind of come up through the program together.

Friends and training partners are a go, and for every time his powers frustrate Backlash I'm sure there are just as many times those charged melted attacks have knocked Deadzone on his ass!

Noooo Who he just wants to be friendly, he promises he won't use his power on you! That's just in poor taste, when they're not in training.

I'm so down for squabbling, he's really been so indoctrinated that he's forgotten what the real world and free will is like! He'll try so hard to get her to see this is all really for the best, and miserable failure won't stop him.

This is Dean, a handler for Alpha. He probably asks for your guy's assistance every so often during training, which he sometimes wants them to do without using their powers for strength training and in the event their power is ever nullified in the field.
