Who: Jack and Hemingway
Where: The diner
What: Catching up
When: Today
Rating: TBD
Open: To Amy and Abi
Status: Ongoing

Jack had agreed to meet up with his father now things had calmed down enough that he was happy to leave Amy. Yes he knew damn well his girlfriend could handle herself, but it didn’t stop him worrying.

It had taken all he had to wait for his father to actually show up before he grabbed some food. Apparently chaos worked wonders for his appetite.

"Wonderful." Amy sat next to Jack and gave him a small kiss on the cheek, hoping it wouldn't embarrass him. "It's so lovely to be able to be out at the diner again, isn't it? Like things are getting back to some kind of normal."

Jack smiled and squeezed her hand. "It's just nice to be out with no fog or anything. I've just been telling Papa I'm crazy about you."

"It's true, he's been gushing," Ernest smiled, glancing between them and feeling an odd sense of pride at how good they seemed together. It was great to see his kid so happy.

"My sweet man. It's nice to have light again so I can see that handsome face." Amy gave Jack another kiss on the cheek and then smiled to Ernest. "I'm crazy about him too."

Jack squeezed her hand, deciding not to throw how he'd been talking to his father about their future at her just yet.

"Well, you're very good together," he admitted, his smile growing a little wider. "You kids want some lunch?" he asked, realising that he and Jack had been talking for so long they'd forgotten about the food.

"We do make a great pair." Amy never hesitated to agree with a compliment. She nodded. "Yes, we should have something to eat." She glanced over at Jack with a giggle, realizing she had answered for him. "I mean, you must want lunch, right?"

"I always want to eat, you both know me well enough for that," Jack grinned. He didn't mind being a 'we' especially when it was with Amy. He decided to test something. "She'll be even worse when we're married."

"It's for the best. Men shouldn't be trusted to make their own decisions," he half-joked, handing over the menu he'd been awkwardly fiddling with throughout his conversation with Jack. He wasn't the best person to talk to about marriage, but he coped even worse when he was left to his own devices.

"Believe me Pop, I know." Jack grinned. "I feel a large cheeseburger in my future."

Amy had been happily surprised by Jack's choice of words. It must mean he could picture them as husband and wife too. She took a moment to recover while the men talked.

"Mm..that does sound good. Especially with a side of fries." She glanced at Jack with a playful grin. "Right, future hubby?"

Hemingway resisted the urge to comment that the burger apparently wasn't the only thing he saw in his future - but held back from teasing so as not to embarrass Amy too much.

"Burgers all round then? I'll get the order in," he said, sliding out of the booth to order for them, and give the two lovebirds a minute or so alone.

"I do." Amy wouldn't tell him how much she liked thinking about the future. That she might have even kept a notebook filled with her future dreams that she made as a child. "I really do."

"Then we will, just not in a crowded diner with my father?" Jack teased

Ernest ordered the burgers, and returned with three rather precariously held glasses of soda that he did somehow manage not to spill.

"I didn't ask about drinks, so you're having a coke," he told her as he placed them down. "Unless you strongly object, and then I might consider swapping it for you," he added with a smile.

"It's not that crowded." Amy teased back.

She smiled to Ernest when he came back. "A coke is lovely. Thank you so much."

Ernest glanced between them, getting the feeling that he was interrupting something... but he wouldn't embarrass his son by questioning it. He'd just leave them to it after lunch.

"Um- how are your craft classes coming along, Amy?" he asked conversationally.

"They're wonderful!" Amy exclaimed. "I don't get as many people as I'd like, but there are so many other things to do on the island. And smaller classes let me give more personal attention to the students."
