Steve was still in pain, but he didn't care. He needed to get to Micha. He was terrified for her. When JR told him he'd been cutting a swath through the enemy, he knew that wasn't good at all. As he made his way to the beach he silently prayed that she hadn't turned. He'd never be able to live with himself if he caused that.

He had to pause for a moment when he got to the edge of the city, leaning against a building. It took just a moment's rest before he could keep going. He hated being so slow, but it was necessary. While the pain was lessening, it was still very present.

"Micha!" He called as he got closer to where the reaper had fallen. He stopped, just staring at the thing. He closed his eyes and his whole body tensed as a memory came to the front of facing down that thing, and then there was nothing. That had been what killed him.

Failure. That's the word that kept repeating in her mind ever since Steve died. She'd failed him, failed their daughter and failed the child she carried even now. She'd failed them, and the island community as a whole. She was supposed to keep everyone safe and instead they'd died.

It could not be allowed to happen again. If she had to kill every last invader to keep everyone safe that is what she would do.

"Steve?" She looked down from the top of the reaper she was cutting up. The thing was massive, even for her it would take several days to disassemble and dump in the deepest part of the ocean she could find. Perhaps Isabel could wish the hulks vanished, or transform them into something useful. But that was for later, right now it was confirming that Steve really was returned from the dead.

He'd been running on pure adrenaline up to that point. It was the only thing keeping him moving. But now that he was there, that he could see her, that was starting to fade. Steve got as close to the thing as he could before dropping to his knees. At least the pain wasn't getting worse.

"Steve!" Micha Jumped from the Reaper, using the Force to safely land next to him. She reached to touch him, verifying to herself that he was alive. "You're hurt." Another failure.

Steve took her hand and squeezed it gently, offering her a strained smile. "I'm fine. Just not a hundred percent, that's all." He took a deep breath and let it out before attempting to get to his feet. "I'm okay. Really."

"You should have gone to the hospital to get looked at." She frowned at him, then wrapped her arms around him as tight as she could. "Don't ever die on me again, I won't allow it."

"I needed to find you." He held her as tight as he could without hurting her, closing his eyes. "To make sure...." He cleared his throat. He couldn't say it out loud. "I won't. I promise." He just held onto her, like she were his tether to life. He left himself open. Left his emotions completely exposed. Everything he felt for her would have been readable by a youngling.

Micha paused as she sensed his thoughts, surprised at what was there and the intensity of them. It was a good question though, had she turned to the dark side? The fact she could ask that question suggested she hadn't but it made her examine her actions since Steve had died. Was doing everything she possibly could to kill her enemies a mark of the dark side? They had been trying to kill her and everyone else on the island after all, had killed Steve.

But she'd felt satisfaction in killing the aliens, as if she were avenging Steve's death. That was not the way of the Jedi. Be prepared to kill, yes, but take no pleasure in the act.

She wasn't certain how much time passed between the beginning of the thought process to the conclusion, but Steve was still there and holding her tightly. Just as he had when he fully opened himself to her. Micha reached up and stroked his face gently. "No, I haven't turned...but I came closer than I like to think I could. It shames me to admit that I took pleasure in the deaths of all the aliens I killed, thinking I could avenge your death."

Steve reached up and took her hand from his face, kissing her palm. "We'll figure it out, okay? We can talk....you can meditate..." He kissed her palm again. "I'm so sorry, Micha."
