As much as his artistic endeavours tended to be a solitary pursuit, Colquhoun was not used to spending a great deal of time on his own. As well as MacBryde, he often shared studio spaces and accommodation with other artists - Paul Klee, Jankel Adler, George Barker- and being left to his own devices was a little bit dull. So, he was glad of the distraction that Rachel had suggested.
He had found the cafe, and sat outside under the veranda- because what was the point of Trinidad if you insisted on hiding indoors all of the time? He leaned back, slowly smoking a cigarette as he leafed through a novel he'd picked up on the island, To Kill a Mockingbird, since Bernard had recommended it to him.
