Who: Darcy and Bruce and Everyone
What: Wedding!
Where: The park
When: Forward-dated to Friday, Feb. 14, mid-afternoon
Rating: variable depending on who's threading
Status: Open/Ongoing/Multiple threads encouraged

The wedding is casual but elegant and starts in the late afternoon, just about the same time a light snow flurry begins to fall, and is set up in the largest section of the park in two parts.

The first hosts the ceremony, outdoors, under one of the largest trees, with the altar set up among the branches in the same place Bruce found Jacob his first day on the island. Darcy as made sure there are plenty of blankets available for people to grab in case they start to get cold. The ceremony is short but sweet with Jacob as Bruce’s best man, Bucky as Darcy’s ‘Dude of Honor’, the five-year-old versions of Steve and Bucky escorting her down the aisle and Tony officiating. [Ceremony will be threaded below for more details]

The second area is under a large, see-through tent with wooden dance floor underneath to make sure everyone can move around easily. The tent is well heated with heaters that Izzy has fitted to make sure they give off no fumes, as well as a fireplace to one side with a chimney directing smoke direct out of the tent. Other than Darcy’s bouquet there are no flowers, instead the tables are all decorated with slices of old logs, twigs, pine cones, ferns and moss along with plenty of unscented candles along long, family-style tables with no seating chart. The ceiling was intricately decorated as well to add some extra lighting. And if anyone looked carefully they’d see all of the candle holders, light glasses at the reception and even the base of Darcy’s bouquet were all made from scientific glassware, mostly beakers and flasks, that she’d scrounged from Tony’s R+D departments to surprise Bruce.

The food is all comfort food made by Maryanne and served buffet style, including mostly soups and stews, gumbo, lots of potato dishes, roast meats and veggies and curries, as well as plenty of food for kids (and picky adults)-things like chicken fingers, plain mashed potatoes and gravy, grilled cheese, and pasta. The cake made by Sookie sits on a separate table surrounded by little personal pies made by Isabel, in case someone doesn’t like cake or wants dessert early. There would also be a make-your-own s’mores table near the fireplace and plenty of drinks around, including coffee, hot chocolate and hot spiced cider, all three available spiked for those so inclined, on top of the usual choices.

By halfway through the reception Darcy has bustled up her dress up to about her knees to keep it out of the way (revealing her shoes as well) and once everyone seemed done with the food, for their first course at least, they would have cut the cake (Darcy giving all the sugar flowers to the kids first and mushing the first bite in Bruce’s face) and done all of the other ‘traditional’ wedding things that they could stand. Bruce is wearing a suit and tie to his wedding, though halfway through the reception, his tie is loosened from Darcy tugging on it. Once things start to wind down Bruce and Darcy would head off in Maryanne’s monster truck so Darcy can surprise him with a week-long honeymoon in Rivendell, leaving the set up for anyone else to use until the end of that week.

Jake and Sook - Reception

"Yeah, well, that's gonna be a one-off," he said with a frown, before looking back round at Sook, slightly confused by what she was saying. "I said that? uh," he muttered, glancing down at his crutches and then his legs for a moment. "Dancing? ...I'm nowhere near drunk enough."

Sook downed the last of her cider; that's what she figured. "Yeah I kinda thought that." she smiled a tense smile, patting his shoulder as she stood up. "Have a fun night." she went off to find someone who didn't have to be drunk to dance with her.

"Sook!" he called after her, fumbling with his crutches as he tried to get to his feet in a hurry. "Sook, hang on... Wait, please... Sook!"

Oh, fuck's sake, why was his right leg so damned useless? One of his crutches slipped to the floor and got stuck under his chair and the table, so he left it where it was and just used the other one, trying his best to go after her without tripping himself up in the process.

She stopped at the last shout of her name, turning around to see Jake.

Sook couldn't believe her eyes and her jaw dropped a little as she took steps towards him, stuttering, "Jake... you... you're only on one." she grinned at him, hurt forgotten. "I didn't know you had gotten this good already."

He shook his head as he kept moving, leaning heavily on the crutch. "I ain't good, that's what I was gonna say." All manner of things popped up in his head over the next second, about how he was gonna fall on his ass and take whoever was closest with him, his legs were still useless and shit, he could just about manage standing, he couldn't remember the last time he'd danced in this body and so on. "I didn't say what I said because it was you asking, I just..." and he trailed off for a second, glancing down at his feet again.

"C'mon," he said when he looked back up at her, and held his free hand out. "Can't promise this'll be anywhere near good, but let's dance."

She didn't have to be a mind reader to tell what was going through his head and whilst she was a little hesitant to push him too hard, Jake could do with going out of his comfort zone once in a while. Or she thought, anyway.

Sook took his hand lightly, "You know how impressive you are though, right? I couldn't rebuild all the muscle in my legs after everything that's happened." she muttered, looking up at him since he was still taller than her. "This is just incredible to me, Jake. Incredible."

"I'm not impressive, I'm just me," he said, shrugging it off as he tried to work out how the hell he was going to do this. He needed both hands, didn't he? He had when he'd been dancing with Neytiri, but his legs worked then. So he needed both hands and both legs, and he had one free hand, a crutch and... he should stop thinking and just get on with things.

"You're gonna have to show me how we're doing this," he muttered.

"Lean on me." She stood in front of him, "We'll go slow, okay? Nothing to be scared of, Jake. It's just a dance and it's only me." she grinned to try and make him relax, feeling the tension all around him. "Normal Sook." she wound her arm around his free one to give him more stability, knowing she could bear some of his weight. She swayed softly, going slow so he could get used to the switch of balance. "How's it feel to be standing up again?" she asked.

"Standing up feels great," he replied, clearly distracted as his eyes flicked from watching his feet to watching Sook. He'd tried using just one crutch before, but only for short journeys like when he got the food earlier. Mainly it was kept to making his way round his room where there was furniture he could hold onto when he felt his balance going. Out here, other than Sook, he had nothing, and he really didn't want to pull her down with him, not in those heels.

Ugh, now he was thinking too much, like Tommy did. If he'd been in the Avatar, his ears would have flickered as he gave himself a mental shake. Giving Sook an apologetic smile, he answered her properly as he let her lead. "It's great, really. I never thought I'd be standing in this body ever again, but, well, I'm kinda glad I was wrong."

Her eyes flickered to the people around them also dancing and she realised they really weren't doing so bad, swaying on the spot slowly. She was a little wobbly in her own heels but didn't want to make Jake stumble so she kept just a tight a grip on her own shoes. "Honestly, I kind of love what the island does. It gives, it can take away too, but in all my life at home I never thought I'd have a normal life. Gran died, my brother's in a whole other world, I was working as a waitress. But here, I got Izzy and real friends who don't think I'm a freak because of my brain."

She looked around at everybody, "It might be hard, but it's such a blessing to be alive right here." she looked back at Jake, "And best thing is seeing you smile again. Without tequila." Sook chuckled.

"I smile without tequila!" he protested, unable to keep from grinning as he said as much, before shifting his grip on Sook's arm. "And damn right you got friends. Banshee's even got a name for you, y'know. You scared the shit outta him yesterday with that message. I didn't know what the hell was up with him and then he says 'Eantsyìp says to stay away from danger'. So that's you."

Sook laughed brightly, her eyes flickering golden sunshine just briefly at the happiness. "He did, really? 'Eantsyìp..." she thought back to her research of Na'vi back before she met Hannibal, "That's um... small green person?" she wasn't sure it was right but knew the green part was right.

Her feet started doing small, slow steps she knew he could keep up with. "You better have followed by great advice, Sully." she said, only teasing with her stern tone. "I've been practising with my telepathy lately, I'm sorry if I made him jump... metaphorically speaking."

"'Little green one'," Jake corrected, "because he can pick up on my thoughts too, and when I'm Na'vi, your scent's just like home, so, yeah."

He glanced down quickly as she started to move and tried his best to follow along. "I followed it a bit?" he replied, concentrating more on not tripping himself up or sending them both crashing to the floor, "and you didn't, he just went quiet. Not used to any other voices than mine."

"I smell like Pandora?" she asked, wondering absently about what that smelled like. Eric had always said she smelled like sunshine in a pretty blonde bottle so maybe it was similar.

She slowed down her steps as he tried to keep up, but didn't make a thing out of it. Sook just looked up at him, "I'll let you off this time since you did the hero thing." she chuckled. "Hunting down something dangerous."

"You smell like the forests and like ...something extra, I dunno what it is. I can't tell now, this body's sense of smell is shit compared to the Avatar, but... yeah. It's pretty cool," he admitted, finally looking up from his feet with a smile.

"Thank you very much, you're very kind." He'd no sooner said the words when he stumbled, his right ankle turning over and pitching him sideways and a bit forwards, into Sook. "Shit!"

Smelling like the forest and more was a weird idea to her - she'd always been different, and moreso than the normal kind of different. In Bon Temps, she was shunned and alone whereas here on the island, her differences weren't so much a disability as an intrigue at the least. People didn't care about how she was different and weren't scared by her. Sook smiled at him genuinely as she thought about it all in a second and how lucky she was to be standing there. "Thank you." Sook muttered to Jake, pleased that he'd looked back up at her.

She didn't see him stumbling until the grip on her arm slipped, moving her free arm from holding onto his shoulder to his waist to steady Jake. She wrapped her arms around him in a hug to bear some of his weight so he didn't fall in front of everyone. "Woah, woah, woah sailor. Trying to cop a feel of me already?" Sook teased softly. "I'm not that kinda girl."

Jake was holding the crutch with his right hand, the supports biting into his arm as Sook grabbed at him and pulled him into a surprisingly-strong hug. "Ngaytxoa! Shit, sorry," he blurted out, his free arm moving with the intention of pushing himself back upright but instead, he just gripped at her arm and rode out the pain in his ankle - he did similar things in physio all the damn time, and he knew it would pass in a moment or two.

Eventually, he pushed himself back, gingerly letting his ankle take some weight as he sorted out his balance as best he could. "I ain't that kinda Marine," he replied quietly, then let go of her arm, brushing at the reddened marks on her skin as he did so. "I didn't hurt you, did I?"

Sook held onto him until he started to move, letting him set the balance again. It could have been much worse, she told herself as he gripped onto her arm to help him with that ankle. "No need to say sorry, Jake." she tried to reassure him, nodding as he righted himself again.

"I know you're not." Her eyes glanced down at his ankle, more concerned about him twisting it or spraining it than some silly marks on her arm. "I'm fine, more concerned about you. Is your ankle okay? Do you want to sit?" she felt bad about potentially pushing him too hard, though she had liked the dancing.

"Ankle's fine, it's just weak. I do this all the time in physio, I'm used to it by now," he explained, "and no, I don't want to sit. Not yet. I promised you a dance, and the song ain't finished yet."

His ankle did hurt a bit, but it could weight-bear, so he just adjusted his grip and made sure he was as steady on his feet as he could get.

Sook leaned back but re-firmed her grip on his arm, shaking her head. All the Sullys had this stubborn streak inside of them that refused to give in to anything or anyone. It was at once the best and worst part of them. "You did promise and you're the kind of man to keep a promise." she nodded.

She simply let Jake set the pace this time, hoping that he wasn't in too much pain. "Jake," she said softly, "Thank you for keeping it. The promise. I'll bake you some more lemon things when I get more lemons in."

"You don't need to do that. I kinda ate all your lemons anyway, so it's my fault you got none. I'm gonna try and get you some from Oz. Isabel says they might have some, I just gotta ask."

He tried to do similar steps to what they'd been doing before, but his ankle wasn't having it. Nothing he couldn't handle, just not up to their earlier steps.

"Honey, considering I am a woman and I get why you ended up eating all my cookies, it's not your fault." She said very softly so only Jake would hear her, not wanting to embarrass him.

She noticed his ankle was stiff and she thought about asking him if he wanted to stop. Maybe just a little longer, though.

He barked out a laugh at that, shaking his head as he kept an eye on his feet. He didn't know the song they were dancing to, which didn't surprise him in the slightest, but he was doing his best to move in time with it. Sort of.

"Uh, I, uh. Yeah. But, uh. Yeah. I'm gonna replace them. You want anything else from Oz? I'm getting plants for Tommy, and I'll be Na'vi when I go so I'll be able to carry loads."

Her head immediately swirled with ideas. "I'll have anything and everything you can carry thanks. And tell Tommy I want some blue raspberries. Ever since you asked me about them, I can't get them out of my head." Sook had been having ideas about blue raspberry pies and whatever else Tommy could grow or Jake could forage. "I'd owe you one."

"Don't be silly, you don't owe me nothing. I'll bring back whatever I can get, sure. And I've told him he's to work on them, yeah. I said about talking to Sunila and you about them, and he agreed to see what he could do." That wasn't all he'd said, but Jake refused to think about what else Tommy had told him. Instead, he concentrated on getting through the dance without any more mishaps.
