Who: Darcy and Bruce and Everyone What: Wedding! Where: The park When: Forward-dated to Friday, Feb. 14, mid-afternoon Rating: variable depending on who's threading Status: Open/Ongoing/Multiple threads encouraged
The wedding is casual but elegant and starts in the late afternoon, just about the same time a light snow flurry begins to fall, and is set up in the largest section of the park in two parts.
The first hosts the ceremony, outdoors, under one of the largest trees, with the altar set up among the branches in the same place Bruce found Jacob his first day on the island. Darcy as made sure there are plenty of blankets available for people to grab in case they start to get cold. The ceremony is short but sweet with Jacob as Bruce’s best man, Bucky as Darcy’s ‘Dude of Honor’, the five-year-old versions of Steve and Bucky escorting her down the aisle and Tony officiating. [Ceremony will be threaded below for more details]
The second area is under a large, see-through tent with wooden dance floor underneath to make sure everyone can move around easily. The tent is well heated with heaters that Izzy has fitted to make sure they give off no fumes, as well as a fireplace to one side with a chimney directing smoke direct out of the tent. Other than Darcy’s bouquet there are no flowers, instead the tables are all decorated with slices of old logs, twigs, pine cones, ferns and moss along with plenty of unscented candles along long, family-style tables with no seating chart. The ceiling was intricately decorated as well to add some extra lighting. And if anyone looked carefully they’d see all of the candle holders, light glasses at the reception and even the base of Darcy’s bouquet were all made from scientific glassware, mostly beakers and flasks, that she’d scrounged from Tony’s R+D departments to surprise Bruce.
The food is all comfort food made by Maryanne and served buffet style, including mostly soups and stews, gumbo, lots of potato dishes, roast meats and veggies and curries, as well as plenty of food for kids (and picky adults)-things like chicken fingers, plain mashed potatoes and gravy, grilled cheese, and pasta. The cake made by Sookie sits on a separate table surrounded by little personal pies made by Isabel, in case someone doesn’t like cake or wants dessert early. There would also be a make-your-own s’mores table near the fireplace and plenty of drinks around, including coffee, hot chocolate and hot spiced cider, all three available spiked for those so inclined, on top of the usual choices.
By halfway through the reception Darcy has bustled up herdress up to about her knees to keep it out of the way (revealing her shoes as well) and once everyone seemed done with the food, for their first course at least, they would have cut the cake (Darcy giving all the sugar flowers to the kids first and mushing the first bite in Bruce’s face) and done all of the other ‘traditional’ wedding things that they could stand. Bruce is wearing a suit and tie to his wedding, though halfway through the reception, his tie is loosened from Darcy tugging on it. Once things start to wind down Bruce and Darcy would head off in Maryanne’s monster truck so Darcy can surprise him with a week-long honeymoon in Rivendell, leaving the set up for anyone else to use until the end of that week.
