Who: Darcy and Bruce and Everyone
What: Wedding!
Where: The park
When: Forward-dated to Friday, Feb. 14, mid-afternoon
Rating: variable depending on who's threading
Status: Open/Ongoing/Multiple threads encouraged

The wedding is casual but elegant and starts in the late afternoon, just about the same time a light snow flurry begins to fall, and is set up in the largest section of the park in two parts.

The first hosts the ceremony, outdoors, under one of the largest trees, with the altar set up among the branches in the same place Bruce found Jacob his first day on the island. Darcy as made sure there are plenty of blankets available for people to grab in case they start to get cold. The ceremony is short but sweet with Jacob as Bruce’s best man, Bucky as Darcy’s ‘Dude of Honor’, the five-year-old versions of Steve and Bucky escorting her down the aisle and Tony officiating. [Ceremony will be threaded below for more details]

The second area is under a large, see-through tent with wooden dance floor underneath to make sure everyone can move around easily. The tent is well heated with heaters that Izzy has fitted to make sure they give off no fumes, as well as a fireplace to one side with a chimney directing smoke direct out of the tent. Other than Darcy’s bouquet there are no flowers, instead the tables are all decorated with slices of old logs, twigs, pine cones, ferns and moss along with plenty of unscented candles along long, family-style tables with no seating chart. The ceiling was intricately decorated as well to add some extra lighting. And if anyone looked carefully they’d see all of the candle holders, light glasses at the reception and even the base of Darcy’s bouquet were all made from scientific glassware, mostly beakers and flasks, that she’d scrounged from Tony’s R+D departments to surprise Bruce.

The food is all comfort food made by Maryanne and served buffet style, including mostly soups and stews, gumbo, lots of potato dishes, roast meats and veggies and curries, as well as plenty of food for kids (and picky adults)-things like chicken fingers, plain mashed potatoes and gravy, grilled cheese, and pasta. The cake made by Sookie sits on a separate table surrounded by little personal pies made by Isabel, in case someone doesn’t like cake or wants dessert early. There would also be a make-your-own s’mores table near the fireplace and plenty of drinks around, including coffee, hot chocolate and hot spiced cider, all three available spiked for those so inclined, on top of the usual choices.

By halfway through the reception Darcy has bustled up her dress up to about her knees to keep it out of the way (revealing her shoes as well) and once everyone seemed done with the food, for their first course at least, they would have cut the cake (Darcy giving all the sugar flowers to the kids first and mushing the first bite in Bruce’s face) and done all of the other ‘traditional’ wedding things that they could stand. Bruce is wearing a suit and tie to his wedding, though halfway through the reception, his tie is loosened from Darcy tugging on it. Once things start to wind down Bruce and Darcy would head off in Maryanne’s monster truck so Darcy can surprise him with a week-long honeymoon in Rivendell, leaving the set up for anyone else to use until the end of that week.

Micha - Reception
[info]genepunk

Micha stood off to the side in her Jedi robes, a fruity drink of some kind in one hand. She'd thought about trying out a civilian dress, but nothing felt quite right. Her robes felt like a youngling's security blanket, a way of holding on her identity as a Jedi or ex-Jedi even when she couldn't sense the Force.

She had been able to hobknob in social situations before, but with the loss of her connection with the Force Micha couldn't help but feel uncomfortable and self conscious. It didn't help that she wasn't very familiar with wedding customs on earth, though the basics seemed fairly similar to what she'd known back on Coruscant it still left her feeling a bit antsy. The last thing she wanted to do was make a faux pass or somehow disrupt the joy of the happy couple.

Hannibal couldn't help but notice Micha's uneasiness. Dressed in and clutching at her robes as if they were her safety net.

He approached her with a smile. "Ms Delmare."

Micha turned at the voice and nodded politely, her lips curving into a smile she didn't really feel. She couldn't sense anyone at the party and it bothered her more than she cared to admit. The Force wouldn't tell her chapter and verse who was there, but the closer someone approached the more 'visible' they became even if she couldn't see them directly. Now she was Force-blind.

"Doctor Lecter. Are you enjoying the party?"

He could see through the smile Micha painted. Psychiatry was helpful in social situations. Body language often aided the deduction of people's thoughts. It also helped that she was, of course, Hannibal's patient. He knew Micha was troubled.

"I am. I can't quite get enough of the spiced cider. Though I am beginning to question the candle holders and light glasses." He smiled. "How are you, Ms Delmare?"

"I've been better, but I'll survive." Micha saw no reason to lie, it was obvious from the question he saw through her facade. "I'm not used to being around so many people and not sensing them, and I'm not familiar with all the customs here."

"I am imagine it to be a daunting experience. But you haven't let it overcome you. You are here." He smiled.

Micha arched an eyebrow at him. "I'll admit that I'm far from comfortable with the whole situation but I refuse to run away and hide. The vast majority of the galaxy gets along without the Force, if this is my destiny-" her voice quavered just a little on the last sentence "-I'll not face it like a coward. I will adjust."

He nodded in approval. "You speak as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. To be able to face fears and to step far from our comfort zones. But it isn't, not to many people." Hannibal held his glass up to his lips and sipped on the drink. He smiled and licked his lips a little. "Would you like some?"

"Most of my childhood was spent learning how to face things outside my comfort zone." Micha explained. "There was always a lesson to master that was just on the edge of my abilities at the time, and Jedi are expected to act as negotiators or mediators if the situations call for it."

She paused for a moment, then shrugged. "And as my master would say: 'Do, or do not. There is no try.'" Putting on a brave front and facing her fears squarely was the Jedi way, and while Micha doubted she fit within the Order of her day anymore she would never stop being a Jedi. Even if only in spirit.

Her own drink was lifted in response to the doctor's query. "I have one already, though I believe not the same as yours?"

"Perhaps things become a little dangerous now. Stepping out of your comfort zone without what Jedi posses. Force sensitivity. A newly blind man wouldn't dare cross a busy road. Perhaps your courage comes from you rather than what you were taught." He sipped his drink and glanced at hers. "What are you drinking?"

"A wedding reception is hardly a busy road." That wasn't entirely true, but she was sticking to it. The bit about being newly blind was dead on accurate though. She eyed the groups of people dancing and chatting as if potential assassins lurked within.

She glanced at her drink. "I believe they called it a 'bay breeze' with fruit juice and alcohol."

Micha's face colored slightly and it took a moment before she realized he was joking. "Honestly? You seem a bit different than the others. More formal perhaps. But I was referring to the 'they' that mixed the drink for me."

"I more often than not, enjoy the finer things in life." He sipped his drink. "The formalities may be an occupational hazard." He grinned.

"I see." Micha nodded, letting herself smile. "You wouldn't be the first professional I've dealt with who suffered from that." She took a sip of her own drink. "Though I wasn't a client or patient. Jedi often deal with people in a variety of professions and trades."

"I can also be entirely unprofessional and comment how wonderful it is to finally see you smile." He swirled his drink gently. "I can adapt when the circumstances call for it. I believe the circumstance we are in at the moment allows for informalities."

"I can smile when the situation calls for it." Micha defended herself slightly, not sure why she was feeling defensive at the compliment. "What better place than a wedding where you're genuinely happy for the couple in question?"

Micha's defensiveness didn't come as a surprise to Hannibal given her situation and so he didn't take offence. "Of course." He replied simply and looked on at the people dancing.
