Entry tags:blank, brynhild, jacob frye, scarlet, shepard, sophia peletier (oe), suzume

Who: OPEN
Where: Bryn's club
When: Evening, May 11th
What: Surprise party for Sophia!
Open: Yes
Rating: TBD

When Sophia first arrived at the club, she would find only Rawdon sitting with two champagne glasses and a bottle. She might notice the party decorations, but Rawdon would have left the lights off everywhere except just at the area he was occupying.

After initial greetings of 'happy birthday' and so on, Rawdon popped the cork on the champagne - and everyone else knew that that was their cue to leap out of their hiding places, for the club lights to switch on, the music to start, and everyone to shout "SURPRISE!"

"Oh, you didn't know? Nearly getting hit with a table by a beautiful woman is one of my fantasies." He said quickly. Jacob hid enough from his own feelings that he understood her self-destructive streak, he usually covered his with aggressive flirting, humor or throwing himself off something very tall when no one would face him in the ring. He gave her a genuine smile, "Let's look after each other, hmm? The easiest way to forget about your own troubled feelings is to deal with someone else's. It seems to be working for me and Kenway."

He pulled the bracer back on and secured it on his arm with a nod, "And yes, if you would hold them here for me I would appreciate it. They deserve better than sitting in the back of my closet waiting for us to agree on a place. It shouldn't be too long."

The lack of hesitation, he was one of those that would worm his way in a person's heart quickly, one way or another. And she doubted a single person was sorry for it either. "That sounds like a good plan. And perhaps we will keep out of trouble. Or get in deeper, which might not be too bad." As long as the other had company to watch the other's back.

Bryn nodded. Of course she would. And if he changed his mind he was allowed to. She toed the drawer closed. "Jacob, it's early yet, but would you do me the honor of coming to my daughters wedding? It's going to be as traditionally Norse as it can be, which means it may be a week long, and rather bloody, but there will be plenty of food, drink and merriment."

"At the very least we will be arrested together." Jacob chuckled a little. "Though in that case we should make ourselves a wealthy friend on the off chance we need to be bailed out." Though he was fairly certain that between the pair of them any policeman or other kind of law enforcement wouldn't survive an encounter. Freddy couldn't get upset with him for it if it happened through some strange door, he would never have to know.

The invitation was a surprise but not an unwelcome one. More than likely he would be there as some form of emotional support for her but he found he enjoyed weddings and could only imagine how wild a Norse wedding could be. He could help keep her from doing anything too foolish and he could enjoy the party. Everyone would be getting what they wanted. "I would be honored to attend. You will have to explain some of the customs to me but I would be happy to go."

"See there is an upside to having a vampire for a friend. I could glamour the guards and make them forget we were ever there. Or maye the arresting officers wonder why they were there in the first place." Oh, she knew she was an enabler, she didn't have to be told. Trouble with a capital T. "Or... I could bite them all and fill their systems with enough venom that all they want to do is have sex with each other. You know. Whatever the mood is that day?" It wasn't as if they couldn't just rush through the door until things were forgotten. But that seemed less fun.

"It'll be done all in English I think. Her husband to be is American, from 2013, it's mostly about the feasts and the company, and the rituals of course." Some sacrifices of already acquired animals. "But it's nothing like a christian ceremony, except for the exchange of rings." Though Bryn was almost sure the romans had taken that part of their ceremony as their own. Like they had many other things.

Jacob tilted his head to the side for a moment, trying not to think too hard about what she could do to policemen in their way. He just tended to kill them or knock them out, Evie somehow managed to avoid them or get them to work with her. Making them forget or desire each other was something beyond the realm of possibility for him. That level of power was impressive and perhaps a little troubling, but largely useful. He'd keep that knowledge in his back pocket for later, it might come in handy one day.

"You mentioned bloody." He reminded her. "Do you mean in the sense of sacrifices or in battles to the death?" Not that he was spoiling for a fight, though he had mentioned fighting rings to Edward and he'd asked if he was already getting restless. He'd denied it but maybe the pirate wasn't wrong to question him. It wasn't like he had a ship or some other goal to work toward just yet and there were no targets on the station so far so he would have to keep himself entertained.

"Sacrifices, one is made to Thor, though I may just give him the Ram, and one is to Frigga, which is a large male pig, as it was as close to a Boar as I could get, and he will be cooked as part of the feast. But there is to be much booze, so I wouldn't count out a fight or two." There would be plenty of drinks that were non-alcoholic, of course, for the sake of Dan and his family, and those who did not drink like a fish. Thoughts of the possibility brought about a little wistful smile.

"But the swords will be purely ceremonial so it's less likely that there will be fighting to the death, more like till one passes out." Bryn made a little sharm hum noise as if she'd forgotten something. Or nearly had. She stepped back over to the bookshelves and squatted in a way that would have been terribly indecent if she'd been facing anyone besides the books themselves. She plucked a paperback book off of one of the lower shelves and held it aloft. A Pirate's Love by Johanna Lindsey seemed fairly appropriate for his first bodice ripper.

More Norse gods, perhaps not the best crowd to get into a punch-up with. Jacob was fairly certain that he would have to watch himself around the drink, otherwise, that was exactly what he was going to end up doing once he had a few drinks in him. In most cases he would be endlessly confident in his own abilities, but he was largely sure fighting gods might be the end of him.

What a way to go.

Jacob took the book and as he read the title his eyes lit up, it dawning on him exactly what he was holding. A pirate-themed book of filthy literature. It could prove useful even if it wasn't a good read. He gave her a delighted smile, "This is terrible and perfect, I will make sure to read it in our common room where our Captain Kenway can see me and disapprove. And I will make sure no harm comes to it."

"Well, in case you aren't it's easy to get, so I won't hold it against you if it manages to be a casualty of many folded corners or a well creased spine. I just hope you do enjoy it, there is some story to it, but it's mostly filth." Bryn stood and turned toward him. She liked that he got the mischief of it.

Poor Captain Kenway.

She felt a little bad for aiding that sort of mischief. But only a little. It wasn't that horrible.

"Oh I am very fond of filth." He smiled to himself, slipping the book into one of the larger pockets inside his coat. He was pleased that she could appreciate his sense of humor and charm, and more importantly that she could keep up with him. There weren't very many people who could back in London, especially after his sister left. It was nice to meet someone who was willing and capable of matching him. She was one of two he'd met since arriving that could and he was eager to see if there were any more on the station.

"Thank you for this, I appreciate all of it." He straightened his coat before offering her his arm, "It may be time to rejoin the party I think. Wouldn't want anyone thinking I decided to carry you off and not have the self-control to wait until after the party." Not that Jacob could ever be accused of having any sort of self-control.

The chime on her phone distracted her from taking his arm. The message she found there would prevent her from returning to the party. "I can't join you. Seems I've been left to guard over a very precious treasure. And likely anyone that saw us enter together, save my daughter, probably thinks you've fallen prey to my dastardly wicked ways." She sighed softly, dramatically placing the back of her wrist in mock distress. "I'm sorry if it tarnishes your reputation."

The mock distress was banished as if it were just a blink as Bryn smiled up at him. "But you go have fun, there's much food to be had, and ample drink to overflow your goblet. That is, unless, you have a wish to see this treasure?"

"Can you afford to be distracted by me if you are to protect whatever this precious treasure is. I'm not much of a thief so I promise that you can trust me to be near this treasure, but then, of course, a thief would say that, wouldn't he." Jacob chuckled warmly. Beyond the gifts, which he did appreciate, he truly was enjoying his time with her. She was easy to talk to and he wasn't so eager for it to end just yet.

"I don't want to take up all of your time and attention if there is something you need to do, but I don't mind going with you if you want the company. I don't often have such excellent company." Maybe that wasn't strictly true, not because she wasn't wonderful company, but because Jacob tended to surround himself with people he liked when he had the option and he tended to like people who were good company.

Bryn chuckled softly. "Well I would hope you wouldn't steal this sort of treasure anyway. This sort is... priceless. Come on, we'll have to be more quiet, but it'll give you the chance to see more of my home, more of my handy work. At least my room and one of my daughters. I don't know the state of the other two's quarters, but their room us much like my own."

She stepped back through the security door. She didn't know how he felt about life, or children, or babies. But she couldn't help but share this little miracle. The life that had come from life and death. And while she was sure that it was beyond her to create, there was something about babies that warmed her like no blood could ever.

"Never fear, I can be quite quiet from time to time." He assured her, lowering the volume of his voice to show her that it was possible. He was eager enough to see more of her work, she might have taken his interest as only flattery, he knew how he sounded when he talked, but he hoped she could see that he was being a great deal more genuine with her about that and most everything else he'd said.

The way she said priceless gave him a hint as to what she might be about to show him but he wouldn't ask. He would see soon enough and if she felt comfortable enough to share that with him it was possibly best to let it all unfold before him. "I'm happy to see whatever you feel comfortable showing me."

She crossed the living space and stepped over to another sliding door, but this one was more obvious, and thick. It was on barn hinges though they moved smoothly and without a sound. "Careful. Sometimes I'm more comfortable showing than I should be." Of course she was teasing him again. This close to precious cargo there was no going by that innuendo. The hall was much like the front room, but she paused at the first door she came to, it was normal, with a knob, and stood out from the others, as it was panelled. And pink.

"This is my adopted daughters room. She spends more time with her cousins than she does here, but..." Bryn loved her unconditionally. Even though it hurt that she prefered her father, some days. She opened the door, and the room was just as different as the door was. The walls a paler pink than the door had been, made of carved wood panels. The bed a fourposter slender thing in white. With a desk and an entertainment center. Framed photos on most flat surfaces. "Now I didn't make everything. I just carved the walls and the bed. The rest was prefabricated, because I wanted it done quicker than I was getting it done."

"Please don't assume I would complain." He smirked a little, eyes moving over everything as he followed her. One of the things he hadn't anticipated when adjusting to the future was just how much even the smallest of domestic items had changed. People still slept in beds, ate at tables, sat in chairs, that sort of thing, but there was a whole range of electronic things that he largely couldn't identify. He'd been doing some research on his phone but it was a slow task to learn things. For the most part he wasn't so baffled by the rooms she led him through, but he did take it all in the same way any man from the past would take in any spaces from the future.

"I'm going to assume you did not have much time rather than think you got impatient, one would think that someone in your position could be endlessly patient." Jacob struggled with patience, he wondered that if he lived as long as she did he might learn a little of it. He was fairly certain betting on that would have been a waste of good money. "It is still very nice though."

"Oh, so I don't have to tape my clothes onto myself, when drunk and in the same room?" Though she could only recall losing her clothes a handful of times. But there were a lot of times where she blacked out and couldn't remember anything at all.

"Well, I'm touched by time. But, I do find I have trouble with patience." It was the trouble with being surrounded by people that were touched by age, or death. Bryn gave herself a physical shake. Not wanting her thoughts to go down that road. Because if she did she'd leave and disappoint people. "Her father had... gone away, and I needed her room to be finished quicker than anticipated." Her fingers dragged through her hair, forcing it free from the braids when the clip holding them shot off down past him. Why not act like she'd done it on purpose. She gave her head a shake. "Lets move on to mine?"

"They can join the pile of mine, I'm no prude." He said more to himself than to her. Jacob tended to lose his shirt, though that was more about what he would get up to after he had a few drinks rather than alcohol taking away certain inhibitions. That did certainly happen, but at least partial nudity wasn't something he needed to drink himself into.

He glanced in the direction of the clip after it flew past him, eyebrow raised slightly. He was fairly certain she hadn't meant for that but he wasn't going to call her out on it. It was unimportant, and her hair was lovely enough that he saw no problems with it freer than it had been before. "Absolutely, madam." He beamed. "Lead the way."

"We will have to play cards together then." Oh, they wouldn't play for money, no no. One of them would be down to their skin. It would depend on the day whether or not she was inebriated, or not.

Bryn gave him a smile, glad that he ignored the bit of weird, before they carried on. "The double doors there is my room. Before my daughters showed up, it was all just one room. And then they showed up, as did my grandson, and they needed their own space. It started with just beds, because in a long house that is all it is, beds and maybe a partition between the sleeping, or not sleeping, and the rest of the room. But then Brenna started seeing Dan, and, well, I love the boy, but I didn't want to see his bare arse when I woke up. so I did traditional rooms with longhouse decoration." She led the way to the double doors, both were giant oak behemoths. "Between here and there is sound proof, but when I open this door we will need to speak softly." She demonstrated this by dropping her voice to a soft, slightly husky, tone at the end.

It was Jacob, he would be the one down to his skin within the first few hands. He had given up whist after getting trounced by Ned one too many times, not that he minded losing to the American, he liked seeing his friend smile so much, but losing to him usually meant stealing something from someone or some other potentially dangerous thing. He'd loved it but one of the younger assassin initiates had gotten seriously hurt after getting knocked off a carriage and Jacob had to do the responsible thing and put an end to it.

Of course, he didn't have to worry about such things now.

He nearly made a comment about seeing arses in the morning but he let it go as she went on about her home and then lowered her voice. He followed her lead, not just in walking direction but also in tone. He dropped his voice low, playfully making it deeper before he nodded to her. "Understood."

With a turn of the knob she pressed only one side open, knowing that both would be more impressive, but also noisy. The bed took up most of the space. And while the mattress was modern, the furs that covered it kept it from looking that way. The posts were as wide as the span of her arms, if she were to wrap them around one. Limbs wove between one another to cover the space between each one, higher for the headboard than the foot. Two night tables, which were drawers and cabinet fronts carved into simply hewn tree middles. There was a large armoire that was much like the two tables, though it did have a flat middle, and took up one wall. A cozy chair was off to one side, that was a little out of place, with deep cushions and leather.

And in the middle of the bed, surrounded with pillows, was the reason they had to be quiet. An infant, that wasn't even a month old, lay there slumbering. And Bryn crept over to the bed. Almost as if the wooden floorboards beneath their feet would make a sound. "This may look like your ordinary human baby. But looks would deceive. His mother is a ghost, and his father is human. This here, is a miracle."

"All babies are miracles." Jacob said warmly. Jacob Frye, master assassin, occasional violent thug and all-around poster boy for bad ideas, couldn't resist a baby. He liked kids, he couldn't help himself, even when they stole from him or made his life miserable, he couldn't stand seeing them harmed. Babies were usually a little easier than kids, if only because he could hand them off to their mother when they got to be too much for him, not that he had much experience with that. Of course, if he'd been back in London, he would be preparing for his wedding, a wedding that was only happening so soon because his fiancee was with child and they only had a small window to marry before she started showing.

The thought of becoming a father had excited and overwhelmed him at first, and perhaps it had made him more careful with himself. Now he didn't think on it much, it was the only way he could really cope with the fact that he wasn't there, that his love and his child might have had to live lives without him. He hoped that he was in the same situation as Kenway, that his history continued on and that being on the station was a slight detour or something that was happening outside the time he came from.

"He's beautiful," he said, voice low as he approached the bed. "So tiny."

Bryn reached across the sturdy footboard when she reached it, and slid her arms underneath the small snoozing body. Easing him up, like an old pro, before tucking him into one arm. "Yes he is. His name is Reeve Adler" She pressed a little kiss to the tiny brow, before taking in a deep whiff if his dark blonde hair. "There is nothing in this world quite like the smell of babies." Of course they could produce some pretty foul smells, but right now Reeve was good.

She glanced back at Jacob. "Would you like to hold him? He's a pretty good sleeper." The infant had not even stirred in her arms. Only a little smack of his lips before being carried off into deeper sleep.

This was something she missed the most about being a vampire. Being unable to create life. Of course she could extend life, and some considered that claiming as 'children'. But it had never been something she was fond of. And only did so under dire circumstances.

"I shouldn't, but thank you." He said, still smiling as he watched her with the infant. His chest ached a little at the domestic scene, not just because he knew he was or had possibly missed his time with the family he was building. It made him wonder how his father had managed to do what he did. He understood being broken by the death of a loved one, perhaps not at the intensity of the loss of a spouse but he understood it could be painful. But he couldn't fathom abandoning a pair of innocent infants, and then children, for the first six years of their lives when they were all he had left of his beloved wife. And going countries and continents away to just try to bury his grief in work, Jacob couldn't stomach it.

Even Ethan Frye, a cold man of little humor and tolerance, had to have felt some guilt. Jacob himself already felt guilty and he hadn't met his child yet, nor had he been the one who made the choice to leave.

"He's a normal boy? I mean, with such a unique parentage, one would expect it to show in one way or another." He shrugged, "I am inexperienced with such things though, so I could be wrong."

Since he didn't want to hold him, she leaned down and placed him back in the little nest that had been made for him. She leaned back, but not before stroking his little hand. Long small fingers that were so very soft.

"He is as far as we know, normal. We won't know until he exhibits anything other than what he is right now. It is something that is almost a myth in my world. Dead are not supposed to create life. But there are spells. Dangerous ones. And Scarlet very nearly met her true death. So, as far as I know, he is the only one of his kind. Everything that happens from the point of his birth until his death, if he has one, will be historic." Right now, he was simply a perfect little boy. All ten fingers and all ten toes, and everything a boy was supposed to have in between.

Bryn was not sorry she wouldn't be going back to the party. She stepped over to Jacob and gently rubbed his arm, over his jacket. "Whatever makes you sad... I... I hope you find something or someone that will be worth not being sad for."

"Oh love," The smile he gave her was a little tighter than it was genuine and one hand had drifted up to his neck where he lightly played with the shilling that hung from the cord around his neck. Admitting to anything deeper than delight or anger wasn't something Jacob felt comfortable doing and so up went his attempts at defection, of course fiddling with the shilling suggested that she was getting a little too close to the truth, it was harder to play it off. It might have helped if he realized what he was doing but it didn't even cross his mind. "You are far too sweet to me. How could a man be sad here? No one here wants for anything. I assure you I am content in a way I have never been before."

He moved his hand to cover hers, letting it linger a little while before turning to take it in his, bringing it up to his lips where he pressed a feather-light kiss to her knuckles. "You will need to keep your attention on the little one, so I shall leave you to it. Don't worry, I remember my way back. I look forward to seeing you again."
