What had happened? Artorias had gone into the Abyss to face the darkness. He had gone to fight it back. To be rid of it. He didn't do it for the sake of a title or reward, nor did he care if people told tales of what happened in the end. He went there to vanquish the darkness, to put an end to the spread of the sickly abyss. In the end, however it had proved too much for him. He should have died, facing the monstrous Manus. His arm was a broken mess, hanging limply from trying to protect himself behind his tower shield. Manus's power proved to be too much for the great Knight Artorias, and in what he thought to be his last moments, he tried to keep his companion Sif, safe from harm.
He had intended to shield the wolf to make sure that she wasn't tainted by the abyss, but when he opened his eyes he found he was no longer in the abyss. Manus was no where to be seen and the taint of the abyss was gone. Well, most of it, save the little that had become a part of Artorias. The knight stood in what looked like a beautiful garden, with luscious green grass beneath his armoured plated feet. Beside him was a small pool of water, connected to a stream and just beyond that, a cascading waterfall. The trees and plants around him looked ornamental, with long stems and bright blooming flowers. It was peaceful. Tranquil and in a way it made him think of Gwyn and his children, in particular, Gwynevere.
Where were they? How had they got there? Had someone saved them from the abyss? And if so, why? The knight was confused. Clutching his greatsword in his good hand, he looked around, trying to make sense of things. His wolf Sif, sniffed around in the grass curiously.
"Hello? Is there anybody there?" Artorias called out, his voice tinted with fear.
