Who: Kat & Tony
Where: Little Asgard
What: Rescuing the scientist
When: After this
Rating: Low?
Open: To her family and later Maryanne, AJ & Clint
Status: Unfinished
It had been a mere coincidence that she had caught Tony's post. Right now, with Derry and Bill's nemesis so close, she spent most of her time in a different universe. But she had seen the post and recognised the name and then the voice. She had smiled. It would bring back a flicker of light into her friend's eyes. The smile quickly faded when she realised that this Tony did not seem to remember a thing his past away from his universe. Having heard some of the tales, she had a good idea of where to place him timewise. It wasn't too long after her own father had been murdered.

She had sent off a few quick messages, did a quick sweep of the living-room to hide any pictures - those questions could be asked later - and teleported to the university. The engineer had not been difficult to find. "Hi Tony, you look like hell." He did. Skinny, like he hadn't eaten in weeks. Life was escaping him five years before he was set to die.

"Do I have any questions?" he asked, looking up at her with a look on his face that screamed he was being sarcastic. "A lot of them" he added, looking away from her, lining up each thought, trying to figure out which question he should ask first. He had a lot on his mind. A lot of guilt, a lot of hurt. A lot of anger. He was at the end of his tether and carrying on didn't seem like much of an option, even though a part of him wanted to fight it and get back home. The rest of him was about ready to crumble.

His expression grew more serious as he turned his gaze back to her. "Okay, let's see" he started off thoughtfully. "How many other people here know me? How do you know me? Where are we? How did I get here? How can I get back? And what's with all the fur?"

Katherine quenched a snot halfway through. Those were a lot of questions and of course she would start with the important one. "The fur... hmm... those are from my family's home. There are mostly just comfortable and keep the wolves from jumping on the sofas. Can't have wolf hair all over the fabric, can I? Otherwise, let me see..." She paused. What was the best way to get through those questions?

"We are on Geneva's Hell, it's a station in the Empire of Sagranda." She held up one finger, counting down the questions as she went. The next followed suite. "You most likely got here because a little girl decided to rescue from space." Or deemed that poor Maria needed to have her father back. "There was a different version of you here at some point. Quite a couple of people knew that version." Four fingers now. "And.. oh... yes, you probably can't go back unless you figure out how to break through the fabric of time and space." Her Dad was working on it ever since the door to Scarlet's world and the encounter with the ghost. But that could be a conversation for later.

"Wolves?" he replied to that first part, raising both eyebrows. He wasn't sure if he believed her or not. There was a sort of dog smell, wasn't there? Or was he imagining it now that he had been told there were wolves that weren't allowed on the sofas. They must have been domesticated. Sounded to the Tony like the sort of thing Thor might have appreciated. Maybe. That or some good hunting dogs.

He listened to her give her answers to the rest of his question, wondering why she bothered to answer the question about the furs first. Was she playing a game with him? It sort of felt like it. But Tony wasn't in his right mind. He was starved, he was exhausted, he needed to bathe.

"What's the Empire of San...grea or whatever it was you said? What little girl? Was this me from my past or my future? And since when did the fabric of time and space stop me from doing anything?" he asked with a pointed look.

Katherine watched him forlorn on the big sofa. This was her home, not his. He had been thrown from almost certain damnation into something stranger. Only time would heal the stress and disbelief.

"Always," she shrugged. "When most people travel, most humans anyway, they need to go linear. You can't just go from A to D without also crossing B and C. I can, that's what we did. But some jumps are even to big for me. So, you need to bend things, you need to forge connections where naturally where are none. Same goes for time... time for you only naturally goes one way. Forwards, step-by-step. It doesn't have to. You've seen Thanos do so with the time gem. He stepped back. We are in a different universe, if you want to return to yours, you need to find it and somehow manage to create a bridge and no one knows at which time point that universe will be then. Time isn't always running at the same speed in every universe and sometimes even within a universe." Einstein and stuff. They had had special lessons about the science of different universes back in the 26th century. For people like Katherine, it was important. Different worlds were just as important to island folk as photosynthesis was.

After the long explanation, Katherine decided not to answer his other questions. Let him have time to query her on this matter before any of the others. There was something, however, she could add. She let a bottle and two glasses appear. It was a fine make - crystals that shimmered when hit just right by the light. She poured him a glass before pushing it towards him. "Here, I'm sorry, it's just water."

Hearing her explanation made Tony question things all the more, especially who she was. He had noticed her avoiding some of the questions he had asked too. Frustrated and tired, he ran both his hands down his face.

"Water? Great..." he tutted, taking the glass. He leaned back, glass in hand, and looked up towards the ceiling.

"Who are you, really?" he asked. "Where do you come from? How did you make the jump then and if you can do that, why can't you help me get back to my time?" he asked, looking at Kat again. He lifted the glass up to his lips and sipped it. "And try answering all the questions this time. Give it a good, hard college try"

There was a flash of annoyance. She had meant well and he critiqued her. She took a breath and steadied herself, searching for the sympathy for the beaten man. "I did not try avoid any of your questions, Tony," she explained calmly, still friendly. "I don't need to answer any of your questions. I'm just trying to be helpful. I know this is a lot and this place is crazy. I have seen many people arrive. Some take it well. A lot don't."

She paused, giving him a second to let her words sink in before she continued. "As for your questions... I grew up on an island, where the little girl I talked about lived. She brought people to this place with magic. To have friends... To save them... I am the descendent of these people. One of the men she brought over was an evil man. A psychopath who used the magic of the place against the people living there. Eventually, I had enough and I asked people to help me fight one. One of the volunteers was the other you. We won... eventually but the magic of the place eventually brought us here. And that's where we live now." It was the short version. A very short version. She did not expect him to belief her."I am a sorcereress but bringing you back lies outside of the realm of my abilities."

It wasn't just that arriving on the station was crazy. It was everything he had just gone through. All of that loss, all of those people snapped out of existence. It was the people he knew and cared for. It was being trapped up in space, not knowing what was going on back on Earth. It was the gradual acceptance of his demise, and then the sudden shock of being somewhere new and unexpected. Not even being able to quench his thirst could properly ground him. With those thoughts, he knocked back the glass of water and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.

"Right..." he managed to say eventually, taking everything in. "So now what? I mean, clearly we're all stuck here. Is anyone else working on figuring a way to get everyone back to their respective timelines?" he asked curiously.

"I..." Katherine sighed. She had not wanted to tell him this soon but it seemed wrong not to at this point. Her phone buzzed. She would answer in a few seconds. "It's not quite like that. You are not missing from your time line. You are a second you. There is still a you where you've just come from." Add some more crazy to the crazy. "But some are working on creating portals and things. Sometimes some just open. So, there is a chance you can step through but not forever. These things don't last forever." This was the point where she pulled out her phone again. "Sorry, I've quickly got to answer these." With that she typed another round of answers to the people she was talking to.

"So that's it...." he said, looking over at Katherine while she looked at her phone. "I'm supposed to what? Just accept that and move on with my life?" he asked. "If what you are saying is true, and I am not saying that I believe you, then the other me is drifting around in space. He's as good as dead. I, however, have more of a fighting chance so if you don't mind, I should really be getting to work on finding a way back" he said, trying to get up to his feet.

He pushed himself up off the couch on wobbly legs and tried to make a move for whichever direction he assumed lead out of the room. He was in denial. brought on even more by the lack of proof. Tony liked evidence. Actual proof that he could work with. He didn't know the sorceress, didn't know if she was telling the truth or not. He was tired, hungry, worn out and his emotions were all over the place.

"Tony, please..." She watched him get up. There was a tinge of amusement in her voice. She knew such stubbornness. Most people in her family carried that trait with them. "You have time... time in the universe you are from does not run parallel to this one." It was a guess. A chance. Nothing that mattered. She was a good liar. "Get at least something to eat; my grandmother should be here anytime and my grandmother knows more about your world than anyone you have potentially met. If you don't take my word, listen to her."

Stupidly stubborn and irritated, Tony didn't bother sitting back down, but rather kept staggering in the direction he assumed led him out of the room.

"I think I'll pass on that. Tell your Grandmother that it's appreciated, but I'll pass" he added, nearly losing his balance. He leaned against the wall to push himself upright again. "Who is this old lady anyway? And exactly how much does she know about my world?" he asked curiously.

Almost as if summoned Frigga opened the door Tony was trying to escape out of. "I would be the old lady. And I would say I know quite a lot Mister Stark." Because she had been. She held a tray in one hand as she handled the door. But would he know her as she knew him? Did Thor talk of her? She knew Loki didn't.

She placed the tray, laden with bread, a bowl of soup, simply broth at first, and a goblet of something warm, on one of the side tables. When her hands were free, she went to his side. She gingerly placed a hand on his elbow for aid, he looked far worse than she had sensed. "I am Frigga. Queen of Asgard. I believe you know my sons."

Frigga was no short woman, she was just shy of Loki and Thor's crown, and she carried an air of confidence. And could lift Tony from his feet as if he were a babe if she needed too. "Please sit."

Katherine had watched Tony stumble along with a frown. Her instincts told her to help him. That was the way Holly had raised her. But this was a man who tried to escape from her home. So she quenched her instincts. Moments later her grandmother appeared and it brought an immediate smile onto her face. She didn't say anything. She just sat there and watched the interaction.

Tony looked at the strange woman with some confusion. Then she introduced herself. Frigga? Was Thor there?... Was his brother there? How many others were? He allowed Frigga to lead him back and sat down, not bothering to resist. There wasn't much point, was there?

"I do... I mean, one better than the other. One's great. Bit self righteous and talks kinda funny but he's better than his brother. I'll let you figure out which one's which" he joked.

The broth smelled good... And it made his stomach rumble in anticipation. He wasn't sure when he last eaten a proper meal. Things had looked bleak for a while and just resting his eyes had turned into waking up on a space station.

"Wait... your Grandmother?" he replied, looking to Kat.

Frigga was very pleased that he didn't put up a fight, that he almost seemed willing. Almost as if she had pulled it out of thin air, she had a warm blanket to drape over his legs. And she didn't hide her amusement in his describing one of her sons. "Well, I could say you've probably had a very bad experience with one over the other, and as their Mother I do find them both to be... different. Not better than one another. I hope that's understandable."

She lifted the tray from it's resting spot, and settled it over his lap, drawing out two sets of little legs that would sit on either side of his, so that the weight, and responsibility not to spill, wouldn't be all on him. "Now eat slowly, and if your able to finish that, I have some more made up with bits of vegetables that shouldn't upset your stomach." She leaned over just a little, just so she could 'whisper' in his ear, as she touched the goblet. "I heard your request for Scotch, while this isn't it, it is mulled wine. A compromise between water and the strong drink. But be slow with that too, don't want your stomach rejecting it all and having to start all over again."

Stepping back, she took a seat in one of the high backed chairs. She wanted to stay close, so the strength of the spell on the broth would stay strong.

(OoC: The spell is just there to help him regain his strength faster.)

The young woman watched the interaction, holding off to answer his question until her grandmother had looked after Stark. Who would not get better when the Queen of gods tended to your wounds?

"Yep, that's my grandma. I would listen to her." Something in her wanted to apologise or make a joke. But it wasn't like she had ever had a choice - not that she wanted one. She needed to quit feeling awkward about it. So she talked about her grandmother. "She's the expert at this."

Tony smirked a little at Frigga's whispered comment about mulled wine. He didn't think he'd see a day where Thor's Mother of all people would be serving him hot broth and mulled wine. Then again he also never foresaw himself drifting through space, trapped. He saw something else that day...

When Kat confirmed that Frigga was indeed her Grandmother, that was when he it all clicked into place. And in that moment he was sure he knew who one of the parents was. "So... Loki's your Dad huh?" he asked. "The whole sorcery thing should really have been a give away. Points deducted from me for being slow on that part. I should be ashamed but..." he paused and shrugged, lifting the cup of 'water' and taking a drink. He placed the cup down to try the broth. It was savoury and hearty, homely and warm with an extra pinch of magic. And it went down easily. Hungrily, he ate, not really caring how he looked.

"We'll mark it down to you being nearly starved." Frigga offered. Though knowing how secretive and mischievous her granddaughter was it wasn't all on him for not noticing. She looked over at Katherine with a no small amount of pride. "He did make a beautiful child. In both heart and appearance." She loved her family, and that was clear in her tone.

"And She has given me two great grandchildren." Though to most, Bill and Lucy were not children. But she was older than most things on earth. Everything was young to her. But it was her attempt at keeping things light. To attempt to keep from getting Tony worked up too much, again.

Katherine smiled a bit more brightly than she usually would. Kind words from her grandmother would always mean the world to her. Besides, Tony seemed surprisingly fine with her heritage. It was a relief.

"Thanks, grandma," she said. Her smile got a little bit more brighter. "It's quite easy to suddenly go from just having children to being a great grandparent in this place. Time travel, alternative timelines and stuff. The timeline I was born in will never exist for the people here." It was as much of an explanation as it was a preparation for the surprises that waited for Tony.

Tony quite liked Frigga. And in a way he could see her influence in both Thor and Loki, not that he would admit that out loud. She was warm and welcoming. Her grand daughter was similar but there was something about her he wasn't so sure about. Something he didn't trust. She was clearly related to Loki.

"Great... This place is a headache for multiple reasons apparently" Tony replied before taking a drink of mulled wine. But he was alive and he could be thankful for that. He could either work on a way to get back to his timeline or find a way to ensure that the one he had joined remained safe. And it wasn't an easy decision. He could do both... He thought back to the life he had left behind. To Pepper. To the life they could have had.

"It does take some adjustment. For me, it is simply a stopping off point before Valhalla. But it is good to see my sons. And the families they have built." It was hard to forget the feel of Kurse's blade in her back. She knew her fate. And there was no changing it. "So I'm glad not to have to wait until they get there to tell me all about it. It has its good points and its bad." She glanced over at Katherine. She was definitely one of the good.

Sitting forward in her seat she nodded. "How are you doing with that? Do you think you could handle something more substantial?" Frigga nodded toward Tony's bowl. Surely by now he would be able to tell if his stomach was going to like or dislike it all.

Katherine waited for a response from Tony. Getting some food into the man was clearly a priority. Her grandmother would be far better and the mothering role anyway. Instead she poured herself another glass of water and filled two others for Frigga and Tony.

Tony shook his head. "Not right now" he replied, stifling a yawn behind his hand. "I think I need to get some sleep. Right? That's sensible enough" he carried on. He knew he shouldn't push it when it came to eating. He didn't want to make himself sick and the mulled wine certainly helped relax him a little more.

"So, where can I crash then?" he asked, looking from Frigga to Kat.

"I know you might not wish to be doted on, or under the same roof as my youngest son, but I would prefer it if you stayed with us until you've regained your strength. We have more than enough rooms to accommodate you. And when you're stronger I'll help you move any items that have appeared for you to the dwelling of your choice." Loki would just have to cope. He and Thor hardly needed her to mother them much, and Tony was in need.

With a wave of her hand dishes and tray was teleported out of sight. She knew so much of this dwelling that she hadn't really had to bring the tray in here by hand. It just seemed like the wisest thing to do, to keep alarm down.

Frigga did glance over at Katherine, to be sure she wasn't over stepping any boundaries. She had been Queen of Asgard, she wasn't queen here.

The young woman noticed her grandmother's glance and smiled in response. "You are welcome to stay. Dad's not really here at the moment anyway - he's clown-stalking... so..." She shrugged. Tony wouldn't have to worry about that and he could enjoy all the upsides of being mothered with soft cushions and hot soup. Recovery paradise, if you asked Kat.

Loki was 'clown stalking'... Well that was a mental image that made Tony's eyebrows flick up. "Yeah I could have done without thinking about that before I crashed" he replied. Well, it could have been worse.

"Just point me in the direction of somewhere quiet, preferably with a decent sized bed and one of those walk in showers" he said, gesturing with his hand. "Maybe once I sleep, all of this will really start to make sense" he added, dragging himself up to his feet. The wine and broth certainly had helped somewhat. He wasn't feeling anywhere near as weak as he had felt before but he was still exhausted and he still needed to sleep.

Frigga stood from her seat and stepped up beside him. "Oh, I'm afraid only time makes any of this make sense. But we do have quite a few rooms like you described, most of them are like that. Though they do have some luxurious, baths as well." But Tony was a grown man, he wouldn't need help drawing his own bath, would he?

She very gently placed her hand on his elbow. "And I don't point." She led. Like a hostess should. "We took over what was formerly a high end hotel from what I've gathered. I hope you don't mind staying on this level with Katherine and I." She gently guided him through the doors of the library, waving them open as they got close.

"A bath?" he asked with an expression and tone that said he'd be happy with that option. A nice chance to soak and relax his muscles. He smirked when she helped him along, looking back at Kat briefly and offering a brief smile, turning away again.

"I don't mind" he replied. "Why would I mind?" he asked afterwards. He wasn't really asking though, it was a rhetorical question. Honestly, he was just looking forward to getting a moment to himself. A moment to think things over and figure everything out for himself. What he was going to do next. How he was going to adjust.

The second he said it a little grin played over her lips. "I hope you aren't allergic to lavender. I find it helps the muscles ease into sleep." With a flick of her finger she had started filling the tub with hot water, so it would be ready as soon as they reached the door.

Frigga made a noncommittal sound in her throat. "I just wanted to make it seem like you had a choice. But it'll make it easier for me if you have any needs in the middle of the night, that you can't take care of on your own." They reached a door and she waved it open, for him. Before she took a step back and looked him up and down. He really was very thin. With a wave of her hand a pile of neatly folded bed clothes appeared in her hands. "These should tide you over for tonight, so you don't have to put on dirty ones. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to call out to me. I'll hear you, and I'll come." Her words were clearly sincere.

Katherine chuckled at her grandmother's cheekiness. With two boys as stubborn as her father and uncle, you needed to apply any skill in your repertoire. The young woman decided to stay behind. There was something that Tony should know, however, if he planned to stay the night.

"Oh, Tony, I have a bunch of animals living in the house. Just tell them 'stop' if they do something you don't want." She considered warning him exactly what kind of animals were living around them but decided that he would figure it out anyway. Spoilers would take away all the fun, wouldn't they?
