Who: Bryn
Where: The main room of Bad Things
What: Court
When: August 17th( to the station) night, early morning August 18th
Rating: High because there is likely to be death.
Open: Yes! And to subthreads for the spectators.
Status: on going

Bryn and Aibhlinn had spent the whole of the day getting ready for court.

The throne was moved onto the stage, and made to look like something that would have been found in the Viking's longhouse. It was made of ancient oak, and piled with furs of hunted animals, the skins were also very old. On each side sat a chair, one decorated in a celtic design and the other was made out of wood that was almost black, but was otherwise plain. Pits had been opened up in the floor, and bonfires built, each one with a protective spell that would keep the fire from being coaxed by any of the leaders coming to attend. And there were buttons not far away from a hands touch to turn on the overhead sprinkler system should they need it. The bar was moved out of the middle of the room, pushed up against the far wall. A walk way lined with furs, like those that covered the throne, went up the center of the room and on either side of it sat rows of wooden benches.

In the upper floors more comfortable seating could be found, modern couches, and chairs, all lined up close to the railing so the spectacle could be easily seen.

Bryn looked every bit the like the shieldmaiden she died as. Leather chest piece, likely the one she had died in because it was decorated in Norse runes, and had holes in the left side -likely made from many arrows, was over a long chainmail cuirass. Simple tanned hide trousers were beneath. Sword belt was slung across her hips, and leather boots covered her feet. Her hair was pulled up into intricate braids that she would have worn close to twelve hundred years ago. The only makeup she bore was a solid black stripe across her eyes and nose, and red lipstick. Her shield, battered but well taken care of, strapped onto her forearm.

Her thrall was dressed like a celtic warrior, though the young human couldn't have seen actual battle in that time period. Her armor was rough furrs, and the make up she wore was done in bright blue slashes across her face, as if a creature had clawed into her. Her hair was done in intricate braids that formed celtic knots.

They were ready to do battle. The arena was set.

Any spells he'd like to cast before they started? Like saying that would stop him from casting some later on if he needed to. John just held his hands up as if to say he didn't need to, eyes following her pointing hand to the chair. "Right or left side?" he asked curiously. Either way the seating was amusing to John.

"You don't have to reassure me, luv. Maybe concentrate on what you need to. I can look after myself, trust me" he smiled confidently. John had a number of tricks up his sleeve. He had a few ideas as to what he'd do if things went badly. Or hopefully ways to avoid things going badly. Still, he had a strange feeling in his gut. Maybe it was the idea of being stuck in a room with so many Vampires. It's not like the place was pouring with other mortals. He had essentially walked into the lions den. He was a blood droplet hovering over shark infested waters.

Bryn opened her mouth to answer almost automatically, only to close it back. She didn't know how his magic worked. "It's the plain one on the left, but is one side better than the other? Magic wise. Because I can move them, it's no problem." She glanced up to the seating. "I left it plain in case you wished to carve anything for easy ready use."

He didn't know her. He didn't know that was just how she was. The want to protect, even people who could protect themselves. "I know you can, but you are here because of me. For me. It would be bad form if I left you to whatever is to come. Would you be against wearing a smear of my blood?" She knew it was an odd request.

John smirked when she pointed to the left chair. The left hand, the sinister path. He was more than happy to take that seat. "No that's just fine, luv" he said, looking over at the chair. He didn't really have the time to think up any fitting wards or protections. He hadn't been overly prepared for what was about to happen. He knew whatever he did, he'd have to do on the fly and hope for the best. He always did his best work when he was cornered.

John eyed her suspiciously. "You what?" he asked. "Oh, is that your way of marking me?" he added. "Shouldn't I at least look impartial? Or is that your way of trying to scare off any potential attackers? because if they're pissed off at you I doubt a bit of your blood's going to make much of a difference" he added. And besides, he didn't know what effect coming into contact with her blood would have on him. Seems different Vampires in different realities worked roughly the same with a few changes here and there. And there was a lot John still didn't know about Bryn's variety of neck nommer.

She was oddly relieved that he said that. "Good. Aibhlinn is my right hand, and she might have been a little put off that I gave you her place. She would have understood if I explained it, but this way I don't have to explain it." Bryn rubbed the back of her head a little, faux pas avoided.

She nodded briefly. "It is my way of giving you added protection. If they attack you, and you smell of me, we do not have to go through this again, it is certain death for another vampire to attack what is 'mine' and with my long sexual history it would not be a question of 'why'. You can still be impartial. I'll be sure to throw a dirty look or two to for appearances." Because she hoped he would be. These were two lives. Regardless for her thirst for their blood, they needed a somewhat fair trial.

Aibhlinn would be the trustworthy right hand, while John would be the opposite. The sinister, untrusting left hand. The dagger hidden in the sleeve, the whisper that causes a riot in a crowded room. And that was just what John wanted. That was who he was and how he wanted to be seen. If things didn't work out arguing for Miguel, then he'd be perfectly positioned from a magical perspective to do what he needed to do. Gods, a part of him wanted to see an entire room of Vampires set alight. One less problem for a world to deal with but by Gods, Bryn would murder him.

"Oh, don't worry luv, you won't need to do it for appearances. You'll do it because that's the effect I have on people" he said, quite pleased with himself. At least, that's the way he made it sound and look. He took a drag of his cigarette before flicking the last away towards one of the bonfires. "If you're the one in charge of all this bollocks then why put on the big show? Why all this? Why not just drunk the wankers out into the sunlight and watch them burn?" he asked.

Bryn let out a long sigh, as if it was suffering and full of weight. "Because I am the Queen. It doesn't mean the same thing as it doesn't mean the same thing that it does for humans, or used to. It simply means that I am the highest ranking authority of this area. The area is an odd shaped splodge on the map but it covers parts of Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. But.. I am not the end all be all of all vampires. There is a council that I would have to answer to if I didn't do things according to the rules. I hate the job, but... I wouldn't want the same thing to happen here that happened to Chicago." She would absolutely love to be done with the whole thing. Love to toss the tosspots out into the sun.

"Which is why..." She opened her mouth and her fangs sprang down from their hideaway in her mouth, with an audible click. She pricked the tip of her index finger. "I would love the honor of marking you. If all hell breaks loose I am would love the right to be the murderous Viking I was born." She held her finger out, the drip of blood pooling on the tip. As she waited for his permission. Her unpierced finger pointed up to the drawn casting circle. She knew spells that would rain down fire and brimstone on them all... Or something like it.

John didn't like the idea of being marked but it for the best given his situation. "All right luv, go on" he said, holding his arms out at either side to show that he wasn't going to resist or fight back.

Was it bad that a big part of him wanted to see the murderous viking? While part of John did hope that things went well and that the guilty would be punished, another part wanted to see things kick off. Maybe it was because things had been rather boring on the station. Between having no sex for months and only working on his leyline project, things were fairly dull for John. At least Bryn offered a spark of intensity and intrigue.

A cheeky grin touched her lips, and she stepped toward him, close enough it would be hard to tell what she was about. One hand tugged a gap between his belt and pants. Then the bloodied finger planted the smudge. "We want it believable." Meaning the scent would both be fresh, and that she took her bloody bite from below the belt. She had a reputation after all. And she enjoyed being a bit of a tease.

Bryn didn't step back, until her fangs clicked back up into their sheath. Then she placed the bloodied finger in her mouth and stepped back. Licking any left over blood free, and allowing the wound to close up. But with a sharp intake of a breath she glanced toward the doors. "They're early. We need to take our seats." She stepped back enough so that she wouldn't be raising her voice in his face. "Aibhlinn." Her eyes found her thrall. Up in the balcony. Having seated Dan. "They come."

For some reason, John had expected her to place the blood mark somewhere else. Like his face, or his arms for some reason. So when she reached for his belt and made things a bit close and personal he responded with a, "Woah, steady on luv, thought you weren't flirting with my anymore?", and a cheeky grin of his own. She was very attractive, there was no denying that.

His gaze eventually moved away from her towards the doors."All right your majesty..." he said sarcastically, moving towards the left hand seat he had been appointed. Sitting down, he got comfortable. He took out his cigarettes and lit one, watching both Bryn and the incoming audience with care.

Oh. She had never said she wouldn't flirt with him. Because that was too much fun. In fact she might just during the proceedings. While someone was arguing their point, just so she seemed like the uninterested bitch they thought she was.

Bryn followed John slowly to her seat. She knew Aibhlinn was fetching Luis and Lubov from where she had kept them. Which was like a five star hotel rather than a dungeon. But they were indeed locked up. She didn't sit until the doors opened and the first occupants. As they crossed the marks in the ceiling their guises faded and they went from looking very human to being obviously not. The dragon shifter's skin was very red, the wolf's sprouted fur, and it went on like that. The only one that remained the same was the one mermaid, because her transformation was not magically bound. The vampires remained the same.

"So much damn pomp and circumstance I feel like this is a school graduation. I might just flirt with you to relieve the tension."

John raised his eyebrow as he turned his head slightly to look at Bryn. "If that's all it takes to relieve tension for you, you must be fairly easy" he replied, his eyebrow flicking back down again. He got more comfortable in his seat, placing one foot on the chair, knee cocked out to the side. He sat confidently, openly, laid back.

By the looks of things it wasn't just Vampires they were dealing with. All manner of magical creature and supernatural sort seemed to be showing up. Torching the room wasn't exactly an option, although opening a portal to Hell and sending the lot of them would have definitely been a good way to clean house. John puffed away on the cigarette he had just lit, keeping his facial expression blank enough to keep people guessing.

"I'll just follow your lead will I?" John said, turning his head to look at Bryn again.

"Well, a certain tension. Not all of it of course. I'm not that easy. That would lead to inappropriate noises." It was a pity he wasn't psychic. Instead she cut her eyes at him. That cheeky grin back into place. Even if the words were spoken more matter-of-fact. They were low enough so that only he would hear them though.

But in spite of the grin, she was all nerves inside. She used the humor, the flirtation, to hide it. Even the bitchiness. It didn't take long for every seat on each bench to be taken up. Some even squeezed more on it. Especially among the vampires. A few standing in the back, which forced Bryn to stand up.

"Step into the circle or leave." There was no mistaking the authoritative tone she took with the added bits of the group. With a flash of fang, and a little insubordination they complied. Which made her drop her hand to the hilt of her sword. If she had to, she would bring them to heel. "We will start at the top of the hour." Which was only moments away, she sat again.

Bryn leaned toward John. "You don't have to follow my lead. Most of these people are here because it is their duty, they are heads of each racial group, the ones we have to worry about..." Her eyes cut to the ones standing. "Keep an eye on the vampires. Most are not happy that I took over the district. But beyond that, follow your gut."

John just smirked to himself. He liked inappropriate. He enjoyed messing with the status quo.

When Bryn asked him to keep an eye on the Vampires, he subtly looked in their direction. "All right... fair enough" he replied. John was just rolling with the punches, figuring things out in his head. There was a lot that could go wrong but given the sheer amount of other supernatural types, well John was sure that things might end up in Bryn's favour. For her to stand in front of her own kind and ensure that the guilty were justly punished would surely raise her station with the other supernatural sorts in the room. But her own kind? It would either cause them to rise up against her, especially if the two guilty men were in any way respected by their peers. Or it would cause them to respect her more. It was all in how she handled things. Knowing your audience was important.

"Could have done with a bit of a beginners course in Vampire law, but I'm sure I'll handle things" John said offhandedly. "There has to be something about interactions with human, mortal beings"

"It mostly goes the way human law does. Children are off limits, for both creating and drinking from. Humans are cannot give consent until they are eighteen, to change them, unless they are dying of an incurable illness, in which vampire blood cannot cure, and then they have to have a guardian present. I am not sure which either of these two were trying to do, but the video doesn't look good for them. And then there was the damage done to Miguel, being the queen I am able to put people under my protection, which means if they do attack those people that I can enact the strictest punishment." Which was why they were here today. But with this many witnesses, and him being her 'lover', if things got hot today she would be justified in instant death.

The two vampires in question were brought before the stage. Each tied with a length of rope that bound their hands across their chest, their 'lead' tied from that. Bryn slowly stood up. She knew they were guilty, and she was bored of the whole process already, or that would be what it looked like. Aibhlinn took her seat, glancing over at John when she did. The marked difference, the eye color, the freckles that dotted her face, could be seen from that short of a distance. Where Bryn's eyes were more of a hazel, Aibhlinn's were a brilliant bright green. Everything else was near identical.

"I have called you all here because these two, Luis and Lubov, were caught in the act of kidnapping a group of children for, no doubt, nefarious reasons. Why else would a pair of male vampires take a group of children?" She turned with her back to the crowd, and pulled a remote from a gap in her armor. With the press of a button the video she had cued up began playing. She glanced at John. A slightly worried look on her face. It started with the two vampires and the kids, so that Miguel could be certain of what they were doing, and the instant one of the kids got hit, Miguel went after them. He would have been seen after that point. And Lyla was IDing the kids and things like that, with a HUD like interface. It ended with the pair being webbed up to a wall, and the children running off. It was clear in the video that the man had been wounded, the attack witnessed by the camera.

"As you can tell, the video has been slowed down so that those have trouble following the fast movements of vampires and... metahumans. But it is not the only one that exists."

John didn't like what he saw but he kept himself composed. He hated people who bullied or harmed children. Children were innocent, still learning about the world around them. Vampires taking advantage of their innocence made John angry. But he didn't growl nor did he shout or scowl. He just looked at the two accused, his expression cold and blank. He took a drag on the cigarette he had lit earlier and looked back to Bryn.

Anyone arguing in the favour of the two Vampires had to be both brave and stupid. John was fairly sure he knew what they might argue but he wanted to wait and see if he was right.

"There are other means of finding out" John piped up, not really caring if it was his turn to speak or not. A hypnotism spell came to mind.

"It would be nice to have a confession." And the people of this world wouldn't know his magic. She didn't think they would be able to sense it, because he smelled like any human did to her. But she knew better. And knew his magic should work here like any other. "But I do have other videos, this is just the better quality video. I have video of them taking the children too, but it is poor quality."

The smile of a predator spread over her lips as she turned to face the two doomed vampires. Bryn didn't mind him speaking out of turn, it was one of the luxuries of being her 'lover', which had been in her thought process. Though some of the vampires around them hissed. It only took that for her fangs to spring out with a loud click, a guttural growl hummed in her chest. "It would be better for your health to remember your place." She warned the crowd. "Need I remind you what happened to Chicago to a bunch of insubordinate vampires?" A rhetorical question of course.

The fear in the room was palpable. John smirked a bit as he watched the Vampires react to Bryn's warning. John was never very good with obeying authority figures. Just one of the reasons he would have made a terrible Vampire. He'd have gotten himself in trouble withing the space of his first week chances were.

Finishing his cigarette, he discarded the end of the other one under his foot, rushing it under the ball of his foot before he lit another one. He didn't really care if anyone found his smoking to be offensive.

He sat back and waited to see the rest of the footage. After all, he was there to speak on behalf of Miguel who could not be present. He knew he needed to wait until he was asked to speak there, not knowing if the defendants got their chance to speak first or not. There was an order to things and he couldn't completely ruin it for Bryn.

"No confession? Fine." Without turning around she started a series of videos One after another, showing where and when each child was taken, some the video just clear enough because they were looking at the two vampires responsible. And then the photos of Miguel's leg up close. The depths of the wounds.

"Miguel cannot be here because of the extent of his wounds, there seems to be a slight infection and he was advised to take it easy." That was far from the truth, but she couldn't exactly say that he was now a child himself. There was only so much she was willing to expose Miguel.

"John, would you like to add something?"

"She's talking bollocks" John said flippantly as he stood up. He took a drag from the cigarette and without missing a beat he said, "He's dead".

It was a lie of course but in a sense it was true. Miguel had become younger overnight. Not just a little bit but a lot younger. The Miguel they knew was no longer around and for the time being, was as good as dead. The young Miguel had no memory of the events because he never experienced them. But a Miguel did and that was the point.

"There's a basic rule that's been passed on from man to man since the dawn of time. Don't kill. And when it came to you lot, you stopped being men and became Vampires. And we became your food source. Of course any food source needs regulations. Children aren't veal, you don't feed from the innocent or you're as bad as the best that resides inside you. You don't kill because then you start to lose your food supply. Basic bloody stuff yet these two wankers" he said, walking over to the two bound vampires. "These two thought they could just do what they wanted. Didn't count on a human being standing up for those who couldn't protect themselves. No matter what these two were planning for the kids, it wouldn't matter. They shouldn't have been near them in the first place" he added, looking at the audience in attendance. "Miguel can't be here to speak, so I am here to speak for him. To be his voice and to make sure that justice is served. And if you lot choose to let these two go back to their lives as normal, it speaks volumes about who you lot are as a society, and gives every protester the fuel they need to end the lot of you"

John thought the two accused were creepy. They gave him flashbacks to his teenage years... To the man who tried to assault him. He hadn't thought about that incident in years and a chill ran over him.

Bryn gave a pained gasp, at John said that Miguel was dead. The very idea of it made the look on her face fitting for the gasp. Which would be fitting for those who knew her. She was known for having a soft spot for humans. And she liked Miguel. His loss on the station would be felt deeply. She let a few tears line her lashes to sell that he spoke the truth. Her pale skin made it easier to see them, due to the tint of her tears being the color of watered down blood.

But as he went on she had to cover her face. Because she was far to pleased about how he spoke to the two vampires in question. He was frank, and didn't seem to care that the group before him were more than capable of at least giving him a run for his money. But Bryn had faith in him. And did not doubt he would burn down half the building before he gave up.

While she had held her hand over her face, she allowed those blood tears to drip, as he finished she wore them like badges of honor. "The question put before you, is there any in this room that think they should not be put to death? Raise your hand, be brave, don't be a coward. I will hear out your argument." But she would do little else.

One of the vampires in the back spoke up them. His accent was rich and russian. "Why is it you care so much about these humans? Take more than one as your lovers, and leave us all to rot? Why do you care what happened to their off spring?"

"Because Markov, I remember what it was like to be human. And you are not in Russia anymore, it has always been a woman's choice with my people, and remain that way. If your true question is what does he have that you don't? Assume he has a much bigger cock than you do." Perhaps Bryn stroked his ego a little, but she knew the asker, he was a sexist jackass. "If that is all, I condemn Lubov and Luis to death. By sunlight."

"That was a piss poor argument, mate" John said, directing his comment towards the Russian vampire. "And she's right" he smirked, winking at Bryn. John had always been the cocky sort, never really ashamed of his ego. Being sure of himself and being confident in his abilities allowed him to survive. Helped convince others that he was not a person to be fucked with. And often, not to be trusted either.

John watched the crowd closely. He took a drag from his cigarette, maintaining his cool and relaxed appearance. On the inside, he was concerned about what would happen next. The verdict had been made. The two accused had been found guilty and were to be put to death.

"So who's going to carry out the sentence then?" John asked.

"Those that wish to leave, can. Or you can stay, and get free drinks. But you have to serve yourselves. Anyone that causes trouble, I will unleash John on you." She cast a sly glance at the sorcerer. Then she looked to the two that faced death. And her own face faltered. They were so young. A Century or two at most. But she also knew that there was no saving them.

"I will do it. I can't ask anyone else to take the life of..." Had she not been gleeful? Just hours ago had not the thirst for shed blood not been thumbing through her veins? And if they were about to commit atrocities, it is likely they had done so before. "I have changed my mind. All of you go. There will be videoed evidence of it if you care to see it. The witnesses will be John and Aibhlinn."

There was some descent in the crowd but they did not bicker about her choice. They filed out without speaking their complaints beyond a murmur, and most of them was the fact that she was becoming soft. Becoming one of 'them'.

When the final vampire filed out of the room Bryn put her face in her hands.

John watched the crowd as they left and waited, puffing away on his cigarette. For a moment, he was starting to wonder if Bryn was backing out. And if she was, he wondered what she was going to do instead. The mage looked up to the balcony briefly and then back to Bryn and her assistant.

"All right, luv. What now?" John asked. He looked to the two doomed Vampires, still bound. "Going soft on them would have just give others the excuse to do what they did, without fear of being punished... You need to do this" he stated clearly. "And I don't see how you are going to manage to take them out into the Sunlight without being hurt yourself. Unless you plan on becoming dust in the wind" he added dryly, a cheeky little smirk in place.

She dragged her hands down her face. Not caring if the makeup, she had on to up the intimidation factor, followed with black streaks down her face. She didn't hide the haunted look on her face. "I know. I know they have to die. But taking a life should never be easy. When I was human... It seemed like it was, but as I've gotten older. And especially now after the island, and then the station... " Her daughters return to her. Colonel Crawley's life spared... "I've grown to appreciate it more."

Bryn looked around to Aibhlinn. "Could you please take them into one of the apartments and allow them to contact anyone they wish to contact, and say their farewells." Her thrall nodded. Grabbing the leash and leading the two condemned vampires away. She wanted to let John in on something even her assistant didn't know. When the three were out of earshot, she stepped up closer. Held up her arm, on the wrist dangled a 'silver' bracelet each charm baring a Norse symbol. "This keeps the sun from effecting me, enables me to enjoy food, drink... And scents other than blood and life. But... " She traced her pulse line in her neck. "The blood I take from Thor helps those weaknesses come to..." a wry smile curved her lips. "Light. See feel." She directed where her fingers sat on the strongest beating point in her neck. "And unfortunately we don't turn to dust, we turn into bloody gloppy goo."

John flicked the last of his cigarette away and held back a sigh. "Allowing them to say goodbye? You are soft..." he replied. It was cold, perhaps. Maybe he could have been nicer about it but he didn't think Bryn was going to have the nerve to do what was needed.

Upon the revelation of her bracelet, he eyed the metal object. It was a powerful item, that was for sure. John wondered how she had come by such a thing, or if perhaps one of the so-called Norse Gods had given it to her. No doubt if it came from Loki there was a hidden price attached to it.

He reached to touch where she had directed, unsure what she meant. Then he felt the pulse... "Are you sure you're a Vampire?" he asked casually, taking his hand away to take out his cigarettes. He tapped one loose and lit it, pocketing the pack and his lighter. "You've got a magic bracelet that let's you be more human... You take pity on child abusers. You're supposed to be this powerful Vampire with the world at your fingertips and look at you..." he paused, looking her up and down. "Beauty before brains, eh?"

Maybe he was pushing her buttons because he wanted her to stop giving in to fear. He felt like it was holding her back. Holding her down.

"Besides, soon enough you'll be back on the station and nothing here will matter" he shrugged. He didn't mean that but he needed to be the bad guy in the room. For her sake.
