Who: Bryn
Where: The main room of Bad Things
What: Court
When: August 17th( to the station) night, early morning August 18th
Rating: High because there is likely to be death.
Open: Yes! And to subthreads for the spectators.
Status: on going

Bryn and Aibhlinn had spent the whole of the day getting ready for court.

The throne was moved onto the stage, and made to look like something that would have been found in the Viking's longhouse. It was made of ancient oak, and piled with furs of hunted animals, the skins were also very old. On each side sat a chair, one decorated in a celtic design and the other was made out of wood that was almost black, but was otherwise plain. Pits had been opened up in the floor, and bonfires built, each one with a protective spell that would keep the fire from being coaxed by any of the leaders coming to attend. And there were buttons not far away from a hands touch to turn on the overhead sprinkler system should they need it. The bar was moved out of the middle of the room, pushed up against the far wall. A walk way lined with furs, like those that covered the throne, went up the center of the room and on either side of it sat rows of wooden benches.

In the upper floors more comfortable seating could be found, modern couches, and chairs, all lined up close to the railing so the spectacle could be easily seen.

Bryn looked every bit the like the shieldmaiden she died as. Leather chest piece, likely the one she had died in because it was decorated in Norse runes, and had holes in the left side -likely made from many arrows, was over a long chainmail cuirass. Simple tanned hide trousers were beneath. Sword belt was slung across her hips, and leather boots covered her feet. Her hair was pulled up into intricate braids that she would have worn close to twelve hundred years ago. The only makeup she bore was a solid black stripe across her eyes and nose, and red lipstick. Her shield, battered but well taken care of, strapped onto her forearm.

Her thrall was dressed like a celtic warrior, though the young human couldn't have seen actual battle in that time period. Her armor was rough furrs, and the make up she wore was done in bright blue slashes across her face, as if a creature had clawed into her. Her hair was done in intricate braids that formed celtic knots.

They were ready to do battle. The arena was set.

"She's talking bollocks" John said flippantly as he stood up. He took a drag from the cigarette and without missing a beat he said, "He's dead".

It was a lie of course but in a sense it was true. Miguel had become younger overnight. Not just a little bit but a lot younger. The Miguel they knew was no longer around and for the time being, was as good as dead. The young Miguel had no memory of the events because he never experienced them. But a Miguel did and that was the point.

"There's a basic rule that's been passed on from man to man since the dawn of time. Don't kill. And when it came to you lot, you stopped being men and became Vampires. And we became your food source. Of course any food source needs regulations. Children aren't veal, you don't feed from the innocent or you're as bad as the best that resides inside you. You don't kill because then you start to lose your food supply. Basic bloody stuff yet these two wankers" he said, walking over to the two bound vampires. "These two thought they could just do what they wanted. Didn't count on a human being standing up for those who couldn't protect themselves. No matter what these two were planning for the kids, it wouldn't matter. They shouldn't have been near them in the first place" he added, looking at the audience in attendance. "Miguel can't be here to speak, so I am here to speak for him. To be his voice and to make sure that justice is served. And if you lot choose to let these two go back to their lives as normal, it speaks volumes about who you lot are as a society, and gives every protester the fuel they need to end the lot of you"

John thought the two accused were creepy. They gave him flashbacks to his teenage years... To the man who tried to assault him. He hadn't thought about that incident in years and a chill ran over him.

Bryn gave a pained gasp, at John said that Miguel was dead. The very idea of it made the look on her face fitting for the gasp. Which would be fitting for those who knew her. She was known for having a soft spot for humans. And she liked Miguel. His loss on the station would be felt deeply. She let a few tears line her lashes to sell that he spoke the truth. Her pale skin made it easier to see them, due to the tint of her tears being the color of watered down blood.

But as he went on she had to cover her face. Because she was far to pleased about how he spoke to the two vampires in question. He was frank, and didn't seem to care that the group before him were more than capable of at least giving him a run for his money. But Bryn had faith in him. And did not doubt he would burn down half the building before he gave up.

While she had held her hand over her face, she allowed those blood tears to drip, as he finished she wore them like badges of honor. "The question put before you, is there any in this room that think they should not be put to death? Raise your hand, be brave, don't be a coward. I will hear out your argument." But she would do little else.

One of the vampires in the back spoke up them. His accent was rich and russian. "Why is it you care so much about these humans? Take more than one as your lovers, and leave us all to rot? Why do you care what happened to their off spring?"

"Because Markov, I remember what it was like to be human. And you are not in Russia anymore, it has always been a woman's choice with my people, and remain that way. If your true question is what does he have that you don't? Assume he has a much bigger cock than you do." Perhaps Bryn stroked his ego a little, but she knew the asker, he was a sexist jackass. "If that is all, I condemn Lubov and Luis to death. By sunlight."

"That was a piss poor argument, mate" John said, directing his comment towards the Russian vampire. "And she's right" he smirked, winking at Bryn. John had always been the cocky sort, never really ashamed of his ego. Being sure of himself and being confident in his abilities allowed him to survive. Helped convince others that he was not a person to be fucked with. And often, not to be trusted either.

John watched the crowd closely. He took a drag from his cigarette, maintaining his cool and relaxed appearance. On the inside, he was concerned about what would happen next. The verdict had been made. The two accused had been found guilty and were to be put to death.

"So who's going to carry out the sentence then?" John asked.

"Those that wish to leave, can. Or you can stay, and get free drinks. But you have to serve yourselves. Anyone that causes trouble, I will unleash John on you." She cast a sly glance at the sorcerer. Then she looked to the two that faced death. And her own face faltered. They were so young. A Century or two at most. But she also knew that there was no saving them.

"I will do it. I can't ask anyone else to take the life of..." Had she not been gleeful? Just hours ago had not the thirst for shed blood not been thumbing through her veins? And if they were about to commit atrocities, it is likely they had done so before. "I have changed my mind. All of you go. There will be videoed evidence of it if you care to see it. The witnesses will be John and Aibhlinn."

There was some descent in the crowd but they did not bicker about her choice. They filed out without speaking their complaints beyond a murmur, and most of them was the fact that she was becoming soft. Becoming one of 'them'.

When the final vampire filed out of the room Bryn put her face in her hands.

John watched the crowd as they left and waited, puffing away on his cigarette. For a moment, he was starting to wonder if Bryn was backing out. And if she was, he wondered what she was going to do instead. The mage looked up to the balcony briefly and then back to Bryn and her assistant.

"All right, luv. What now?" John asked. He looked to the two doomed Vampires, still bound. "Going soft on them would have just give others the excuse to do what they did, without fear of being punished... You need to do this" he stated clearly. "And I don't see how you are going to manage to take them out into the Sunlight without being hurt yourself. Unless you plan on becoming dust in the wind" he added dryly, a cheeky little smirk in place.

She dragged her hands down her face. Not caring if the makeup, she had on to up the intimidation factor, followed with black streaks down her face. She didn't hide the haunted look on her face. "I know. I know they have to die. But taking a life should never be easy. When I was human... It seemed like it was, but as I've gotten older. And especially now after the island, and then the station... " Her daughters return to her. Colonel Crawley's life spared... "I've grown to appreciate it more."

Bryn looked around to Aibhlinn. "Could you please take them into one of the apartments and allow them to contact anyone they wish to contact, and say their farewells." Her thrall nodded. Grabbing the leash and leading the two condemned vampires away. She wanted to let John in on something even her assistant didn't know. When the three were out of earshot, she stepped up closer. Held up her arm, on the wrist dangled a 'silver' bracelet each charm baring a Norse symbol. "This keeps the sun from effecting me, enables me to enjoy food, drink... And scents other than blood and life. But... " She traced her pulse line in her neck. "The blood I take from Thor helps those weaknesses come to..." a wry smile curved her lips. "Light. See feel." She directed where her fingers sat on the strongest beating point in her neck. "And unfortunately we don't turn to dust, we turn into bloody gloppy goo."

John flicked the last of his cigarette away and held back a sigh. "Allowing them to say goodbye? You are soft..." he replied. It was cold, perhaps. Maybe he could have been nicer about it but he didn't think Bryn was going to have the nerve to do what was needed.

Upon the revelation of her bracelet, he eyed the metal object. It was a powerful item, that was for sure. John wondered how she had come by such a thing, or if perhaps one of the so-called Norse Gods had given it to her. No doubt if it came from Loki there was a hidden price attached to it.

He reached to touch where she had directed, unsure what she meant. Then he felt the pulse... "Are you sure you're a Vampire?" he asked casually, taking his hand away to take out his cigarettes. He tapped one loose and lit it, pocketing the pack and his lighter. "You've got a magic bracelet that let's you be more human... You take pity on child abusers. You're supposed to be this powerful Vampire with the world at your fingertips and look at you..." he paused, looking her up and down. "Beauty before brains, eh?"

Maybe he was pushing her buttons because he wanted her to stop giving in to fear. He felt like it was holding her back. Holding her down.

"Besides, soon enough you'll be back on the station and nothing here will matter" he shrugged. He didn't mean that but he needed to be the bad guy in the room. For her sake.

She understood his statement. It was soft. "Not much of a viking now, hmm?" But she couldn't allow them to just... die if there was anyone that might care. "If you were a parent you would understand. I would not leave one to wonder, what happened, where, when.. Was there pain?" Though the last part she couldn't help. There would be pain, but their soul would be purified from damning it had taken. The pain their payment into the afterlife.

Bryn snorted softy, in response to his claim of 'beauty before brains'. "This world will always matter, this is my home. There is a version of me somewhere, likely the fates have aligned so that we do not run into one another. It is best not to leave a mess so there is backlash that has to be taken care of on their end. But..." She faced him fully. "You are right. I have gotten soft. I have been free from doing this for almost three years. I have my daughters, my biological daughters, on the station. I have my adopted daughter... And many people that I have fought beside, and care about. Including you John Constantine. But that said, I will do what I have to do. I will not back out. I will not allow someone else to shoulder this burden."

A little smile quirked her lips. As she went back to that statement. Oh no, he wouldn't be free of that bit. And she had to lighten the mood just a little, or she risked a breakdown. "You think I'm a beauty, hmm?"

If you were a parent, you'd understand. Words he had heard his sister say, among countless others. It was for the best that John didn't have any children. At least none that he was aware of. No child of his to carry the Constantine curse. Still, John thought it was a stupid thing to say.

"They were sodding Vampires, what does it bloody matter?" John replied. The thought of a Vampire with biological children made no sense. The thought of Vampires with parents who cared about them was baffling. John just wanted to go and get drunk and put everything behind him. The trial was a sham, the punishment, unserved and John's nerves were frayed. He also wondered why the hell she still seemed protective of him, even after everything he had said and done since arriving on the station. She truly was soft.

"The fact you think that matters here and now says a lot" he said in response to the beauty comment. "So, should I just piss off now? Leave you to it? I'm sure you'll end up letting them go"

"It matters because someone somewhere might care if they live or die. I hope they do. They were human before they were vampire, and they are not that old. Some may forget, and it may be my curse alone that I have not... But I can't help thinking that..." She looked toward the door that her thrall had walked out of, leading the vampires. "If they simply vanished, if they died without whoever made them knowing, what sort of undeserved pain would I be putting them through? I don't know their maker. I don't know why they were made. I only know that I have to take that gift of prolonged life from them." Bryn cut her eyes to him she didn't know him. "I hope you don't know the pain of losing a child, the pain of one vanishing without knowing where they are, how they are, if they're scared, alone, or..." Her voice cracked a little, and she cleared her throat. "I hope you never feel it if you haven't. It is a pain worse than a slow death. And nothing ever makes it go away."

She caught her hands behind herself, clasping them at her back."But your right, it doesn't matter whether or not you think I'm a beauty. Now or really ever. I was trying to lighten an already intense situation. But if you would rather it stay taught as a bow string till dawn, then so be it. If you want to go, go, I will find another witness. And I will be free from owing you anything more than an apology for a duller evening than I thought it would be." Oh. She knew why he was here. And it didn't have anything to do with Miguel or the unknown children.

Bryn reminded him of a Succubus he once knew. She was pretty soft too. But she was useful. Always wound up owing one another favours, the debts never quite being paid off.

Inside he was a little angry at her comment. He knew what it was like. While Astra wasn't his child, he felt a deep responsibility for what happened to her. He had tried to save her and in the end, she was taken to Hell. He failed her and he carried that guilt with him, never forgiving himself even for a second. But he said nothing. He didn't want her sympathy. He didn't care. In fact, if she hated him, it was all the better for John. She would be safer that way.

John was genuinely there to see justice done. To represent Miguel. And if she didn't believe that, it was no big deal to him. In fact it was preferred. He had no other reason for being there. The deal they had struck had been in regard to looking after Dan after all.

"I know you were trying to lighten the mood..." John said, bringing the cigarette up to his lips. "You are very easy on the eyes, won't lie there" he added casually. "But it's just avoiding, innit? You've got this burden on your shoulders. This task to carry out that most people won't have the stomach for, and I want to make sure you can do it. For the children those two harmed. For Miguel" he added, looking at her directly.

"It is avoiding it. So I don't have to spend the next couple of hours thinking about it. I wish I could have kept my anger, then I could be doing it without feeling so much. But... I honestly thank the gods that Astrid or Brenna did not want to come watch." She glanced up into the gallery, where she knew Dan sat. At least he didn't have to witness her being cold blooded. "I am in need of a subject change. I swear to you on at the feet of all the gods, that I will go through with this. But I cannot stand here and think about it any more. The children, and Miguel will have justice."

Bryn walked over to a flat panel in the wall. With a touch it slid down. "How would you like a taste of an ale that is almost as old as I am?" Behind the panel sat several chilled glass steins, and more than one tap. "It was brewed when I was still human." She glanced back at him. She knew the brew well. She had been there when it was babied almost as much as their children had been.

John watched her, wondering what she was up to. Then there came the offer of booze. That was something John always had trouble saying no to, even when he had a bad feeling about it. It did sound damn tempting though. An old recipe for ale? Superb. Hopefully this ale was nothing like a certain Norse drink he had heard tales of once upon a time...

"Colour me curious" he said with a little smirk as he walked over. "Fancy sharing a drink with me while we wait then?" he asked, wondering if that was her intention. A means to relieve the tension and give herself a distraction. Even just for a short while. John hoped that the two convicted Vampires were behaving themselves at least.

"It's either that or I spend my time hitting on you, I figure this might be more productive." She selected one of the frosted mugs and began pouring. It was clear from her technique that she had been doing it for a while. Once two were full she stepped toward him, offering him either, so it couldn't be left to thought that she'd put anything in his drink. "I will warn you though, it is strong, and not the sort of strong that you can taste. It got Thor very drunk on two mugs, and he weighs six hundred and fifty pounds." Bryn didn't see the point in bringing up he was also the god of thunder, and Asgardian, so she left

A little impish grin turned up her lips. "Sorry, I didn't ask you if you liked head or not." Though she meant the foam on the top, the little grin gave her away that there was a touch of innuendo in there too. Why pass up a moment to turn the conversation a little blue? That always eased the weight on her shoulders, at least for a little bit.

Well, there was always afterwards... Being stuck on the station as a single lad proved frustrating. John wasn't exactly the commitment sort but he did get lonely from time to time. In the end his lovers either walked out on him if they were lucky, or wound up dead.

He took the offered mug and kept in mind the tales he had heard of the power of ancient Norse booze. Lifting it to his lips, he took a sip rather than a normal drink. Not that he wanted to be overly cautious. The man could really hold his drink. But the trial was hardly over, the punishment had yet to be handed out, and John wanted to see Miguel's attackers put to justice.

John smirked at her phrasing. "Depends on the context, luv" he replied. "This isn't half bad" he said, gesturing with the mug. He had a quick puff on his cigarette, allowing the flavours to mix. It was rich and strong with a good kind of bitterness. It went down smoothly. A bit too smoothly. He was going to have to be careful with it.

"Well, in this context I meant the foam on top." Her grin didn't fade, and she knew he was no dummy. But then it changed to a smile caused by a memory. "My Magnus was so proud of himself, with this batch. You would have thought he'd given birth to it. I was still sleeping the morning this barrel met it's first day of drinkability, and he brought me a horn full. And begged me to taste it right then." She had almost disappeared into the memory, it was one of many she turned to when life got hard. It was one of many that were her favorites.

Bryn shook herself and returned to reality. "Magnus was my husband when I was human. We were killed on the same day, I was turned... He was not." Though that might have been obvious. But it wasn't something she was sad about anymore. She'd avenged her husband through the murder of her maker, and her youngest son had avenged them both by the killing of the Jarl that had duped, and had them ambushed. And they were all waiting for her grand stories in Valhalla.

John smirked a little at her first response and cast his gaze down into his drink. It really was a decent brew. The sort that worked well with the taste of his Silk Cut cigarettes. He wondered if it was available on the station... Could be fairly useful.

He was drawn out of his thoughts when the conversation seemed to turn more serious again. She seemed to feel and care a lot more then the Vampires John had met in the past. The ones he knew took more delight in human suffering and didn't seem to care much for the living. All they had was the darkness and each other. There were no quiet tales told of their living days, long forgotten and left behind in the sunlight.

"Sorry luv..." he replied. "Suppose it's something you don't forget easily, is it?" he asked. It was more of a rhetorical question.

"It's hard to forget all the last breaths I have seen. But I'll see them again." There was no guess in her voice, no doubt. No sorrow either. She'd made her peace a long time ago. "That doesn't mean I don't let myself drown in the good memories, of them. The years were short but that is one thing mortals know how to do, make memories that make the time with them worth it." And she had a long memory.

Bryn lifted her glass to her lips and took a long slow sip from it. It was enough for her to feel the euphoric rush that aged alcohol often brought on. She closed her eyes and savored it. "Before the bracelet, I had to drink from someone who had been drunk or high or..." She wiped her mouth. "Sorry for jumping subjects."

John shrugged. "Nothing to apologise for" he replied. He took a drag from his cigarette and then a drink of ale, taking the moment to just enjoy the mingling flavours. They allowed him to stop casting his mind back, thinking about all of the people who died either because of him or because of something he was involved with.

"So how much longer are we going to be stuck here waiting then?" he asked. Honestly, he wasn't even sure what time it was either. Maybe they were hours away from daylight. And if that was the case, what were they going to do for all of that time? The drink was grand, the company was fine but without knowing what was going on, it just felt like a whole lot of waiting.

Bryn watched him take a drag off his cigarette, then take a drink of ale... She was curious. He made it look, well, almost as good as sex. She sucked her teeth and gave herself a good shake. There were a lot of things she didn't do, and seducing men that didn't want her was one of them. She didn't even know what she found so.. attractive about him. Maybe it was the smell? Cigarettes and ale. Or maybe it was the 'things you can't have' syndrome.

She took a breath and drew out a pocket watch from her waist. "Sunrise happens at 7:17, and it's just half past eleven. If you want to get some rest, your welcome to use my apartment, on this side anyway. My daughters are in the one on the other side. It is the safest place in the building, and you have my word I wont take advantage." The last bit added with a bit of a teasing smile. Of course she wouldn't. The warrior in her demanded he be awake and aware. But it also wanted him wanting her. And since that wasn't a reality she lived in, she'd have to do with gentle teasing.

"I'd rather get drunk first" John replied. He wanted to get drunk every night. Head off to bed blind drunk if possible. And if the ale was as potent as she said it was, it wasn't going to take long, was it? He just hoped it was.

He took another drag, followed by a longer mouthful of the ale. Maybe he was drinking it a bit fast but he didn't care. He could feel it starting to kick in a little. Of course, he already had some alcohol in his system. If he wasn't sitting with a pint, he was taking nips from a flask he carried around in his coat pocket.

"Besides, who said I didn't want you to take advantage?" he asked.

She could understand that sentiment. She didn't have to sleep, but she liked to. And it was easier to do it when your mind was quieted by alcohol. Bryn watched him as he took another drag, and another mouthful of ale. She knew she shouldn't. Because it made her want to groan out loud.

She was in the process of gulping down a good bit of her ale, to chase away the rising need, when it all just about came back up. She managed to swallow, with a good round of coughing after. Her eyes slowly cut over at him. That question. Oh. It was evil. She liked it. "You're a deadly flirt. I see you now." Her voice was a little hoarse, rough from the coughing.

Wiping her mouth again she couldn't hide her grin. "Is that how you like it? You'd like me to play the cliche vampire role and creep in your bed? Seduce you with intimate touches and no words?" Her questions were casual, no sultry edge to them at all. "Though I hold to what I said, I wont bite you unless you ask me to."

John smirked to himself, quite pleased with the reaction he managed to get from Bryn. He swirled the liquid around in the glass and looked downwards, smiling smugly. She was certainly attractive, no questions asked. And she was rare in the sense that she had a lot of humanity for a Vampire. Reminded him of an Succubus he knew. She was on the soft side too, especially for a Demon.

"No, not really" he said, walking a little closer to her, still swirling what was left in the glass, his hand covering the top of the glass. "Wouldn't mind a shag. And don't act surprised. I'm not exactly the most subtle of bloke" he paused to finish his cigarette. "You can keep your fangs to yourself. So... what do you say?" he asked confidently, the last of the smoke ebbing from slightly parted lips. Even if she did shoot him down, he could still get drink and wander off to sleep. He flicked the last of the cigarette away and waited on her answer.

So much for washing away that rising need. But the act wasn't an act. She was surprised. Enough that her jaw dropped, her mouth went dry, and she was damn sure that she could have started a fire with her loins alone. Even if she was able to hide her arousal, which she wasn't, she didn't. Her pupils flared, and her fangs dropped down with an audible click. Not because there was a temptation of biting him, but because... It was like a man growing hard in his trousers.

"I wan't to say yes. I really do. I don't know why, but..." She had this screaming attraction toward him, that had her wanting to tear his clothes off right then and there. Her speech was only a little impeded by her fangs. "But it would be dangerous, for both me and you. If Loki were to get wind of it..." She knew Thor would be broken hearted. And he might come after John. But Bryn knew the Thunder God wouldn't come after her.

"He could always join in" John replied, before knocking back the last of the ale in his glass. It was hard to tell when he was joking sometimes. Jokes were his way of protecting himself. Granted, there were grains of truth in there too.

On one hand, John didn't even know if Bryn had a partner or not. Had she told him or not? On the other hand, he didn't really care if she did. It wouldn't have been the first time he had found out afterwards, only to invite the boyfriend to join them for breakfast. Those sorts of offers never really worked out, resulting in John fleeing through a window before the boyfriend caught him.

"Tell me what you want" he said firmly. "If you want me to go, tell me. If you want a bit of fun, let me know"
