Ernest didn't think that he'd done too badly for a party that had been thrown together in less than 24 hours with no properly stocked stores to visit to help him out. Abigail from the bakery was on cupcakes, Lacey had promised food from the Ruby, and plenty of others had been happy to chip in. He was very thankful for that.
Ernest had set up a a few picnic blankets, one of which had some of Charlie's toys and baby books he'd outgrown scattered on it for the very little children, the others act as a sort of 'safe zone' for eating, or for adults that didn't want to get soaked but did want to be present. There were a couple of camping chairs in case sitting on the floor was objectionable to anyone. A pile of beach towels were also handy.
In the more kid-centred area, there were a few paddling pools, including a small one full of filled water balloons, and a large one to act as a filling station for water guns. Charlie had painted a sign for those ones that said "AMMO". Various water pistols were positioned nearby. Another pool was full of bubble solution and hula hoops, to create giant bubbles, and one more for fishing.
Charlie had used chalk to draw hopscotch and giant noughts and crosses on the pathway, and the chalk was still there if anyone wanted to draw or add their own games.
