It wasn't often that James spent the night not sharing a bed with his wife. The marriage was arranged but he'd grown fond of her quickly and might even be approaching something that could be called love. It had been three years since their wedding day, and just two days after his coronation. It seemed that time was flying by. Even after losing his arm in battle and being gifted the metal arm from the gods, his wife hadn't shunned him or treated him any differently. That particular evening, he'd stayed up a little too late with his very good friend, drinking and talking and he didn't want to disturb her sleep. The king was usually awake before the dawn up this time, he'd been stirred by the sunlight shining in through his bedroom window. It took him a few moments to get himself together, as it did every morning. It wasn't until he took a good look around that his brow furrowed. He didn't recognize this room at all. Had he really been that drunk? That he'd stumbled into a room he'd never seen before? Shaking his head, James got out of bed and wrapped himself in one of the blankets, as he seemed unable to find his actual clothes. Being the king, none of the servants would say anything if he were seen in any state of undress. "Ailbhe?" He called out as he left the room. The man should have been easy to find. He almost never left the king's side. And yet, as James wandered the castle, he couldn't find any of the servants. There were hundreds. "Where could they be?" A true panic set in as he continued to wander the halls looking for anyone. What had happened while he was sleep? Where was everyone? Where was...... "Jay?! Where are you?!" He prayed that his best friend would answer. |
