Maria's karaoke suggestion reminded me I was thinking we should do something social again. We've had more than thirty new people since the July 4th thing. Anyone else up for a rooftop BBQ on Friday afternoon?

It's a pity there aren't tv rooms or something for each floor. There's something to be said for random social encounters in shared spaces.

And just for fun... if you had to give a 20 minute speech or presentation with no time to prepare, what topic would you choose?

(Yes, I am bored, is it obvious?)

Overachiever. They normally make people wait until at least fourteen or fifteen before they let them join the Avengers.

I'm from the Umbrella Academy? Not the Avengers?

I'm a lot more familiar with the Avengers' age requirements though.

And the X-Men, for that matter. Half of them look about twelve too, and the rest have been around forever.

Never heard of them, sorry.

We started training when we were [...] four? That sounds about right.

They don't seem to have them in the other Avengers world.

Some of my gymnastics teammates started about then, but most of the injury there is self-inflicted.

I still don't know what that means. But I can tell you there's no Avengers. No other heroes. Just us.

Sounds about as thrilling as watching a fire die.

What, Avengers? Tony, Steve, Thor, etc.

It's a ridiculously stupid sport. There was an old study back in the 90s showing that female gymnasts are training while injured about 70% of the time, which sounds about right.

Huh. That makes Tony so much more handsome.

You know we That's terrible.

I think almost everyone from their timeline might be from the team, actually, at least their equivalents from mine.

Absolutely. It's completely insane. But very, very fun.

The inaugural class of the Umbrella Academy is just us Hargreeveses. Very exclusive. Must have been born on October 1st, 1989.

Eh. I'll stick with my junkie frame.

I feel like it should be a lot easier to imagine living in a world where so few people have super powers.

What do you mean? Your world's the one that sounds like a headache.

People are always going to admire a gaggle of kids with powers. You know how much free shit I got?

It's like imagining a world where literally everyone except maybe a dozen people can only draw at the same level as, say, a six year old. At first it's fine, but then you start thinking about how many things actually rely on the ability to accurately represent how something appears - without being able to photograph or film it. How many things simply wouldn't be possible to accomplish, so they either wouldn't exist at all or they'd be the responsibility of people who just happened to have a talent that they might not even actually enjoy or would rather only do as a hobby, not as a life path that demands total commitment.

While in my world it's just like "I see, so during a full lunar eclipse you gain the ability to transform into a goat. Okay, but what breed? because we've already got a guy who does a chamois."

Keeping in mind that I haven't slept in like three days, I didn't understand a thing of what you said there.

I can't even remember whether the Avengers or X-Men started first. Mutants probably skew younger than anyone else with powers, though.

That’s a ride or die club. We’re quite exclusive. And once you’re in, you’re in for life. We may be a cult, Klaus.

F Far too long. At some point time stopped passing in the conventional manner most are accustomed to. I want to say at least double digits.
