The actual fuck? I'd half be convinced my friend Orla wrote the letter as a pisstake but it's too fuckin professional sounding for her.

New York like? What am I supposed to do? Any of my mates here? If not this is balls and I want to go home.

I heard of that, is it in London?

Right, so, if I'm stuck here what am I supposed to do exactly? Christ I need a drink.

Bit North of London. Well known for it's roundabouts.

Drinking is, indeed, a fine way to pass the time here. First you'll need a job to pay for the top shelf booze you'll require to get the right balance between pissed and hungover, though.

I think I've a fiver in my pocket. That's literally it. And I'm not trained for anything really. Wanted to be a hairdresser.

You can brush hair up in any salon in the city, if that's your whim. Or you can throw your old life out in the wind and shoot for the stars. I wanted to be a rock star once. Not sure my knees are up to it these days, mind.

So, where's it you're from?

Never really made plans for the future. Probably should think about that now. Not the best singer but I can dance with the best of them.

Derry. Northern Ireland. Do you know it?

Wouldn't worry too much about the future, sweetheart, just think about what you'd like to be doing to earn a crust and go with it. You can always change your mind. As for dancing, as long as it was a Pogo I was bloody brilliant.

Aye, I've a passing acquaintance with the place. Nicer than Belfast, less fun than Dublin (Republic, yeah, I'm aware). Liverpudlian, me. Originally, anyway.

I'll have a think. Might go with the hairdressers to be honest.

Dublin's good craic though I was only there once. Love to go back. Was in Belfast a few weeks ago for a concert though? Less fun place though the concert was great.

Ah sure Liverpool is basically Ireland.

When in doubt, go with what you know. If it fits, great, if not there's another opportunity right around the corner just waiting. I'm not usually this optimistic, so we're clear.

Dublin's sold out to the American St. Paddy brigade, but it'll always have a place in my heart. First real pint of Guinness and all that. Belfast is a hotbed of debauchery and division, but as long as you know when to keep your mouth shut you probably won't get knee-capped. What was the band?

Just like Ireland, except for the sectarianism and... wait... pretty similar, now that I'm thinking it through.

What sparked the optimism today then?

You can only get proper Guinness over here, we export the shite version.

Went to Take That. Me and Robbie, we have this connection. Its mad, but true.

Told ya, basically Ireland.

Oh! Also, what happened the internet? It's fast now.

Fucked if I know. Must be coming down with something.

Guinness went to shite the second they tried to put it in a can. Still better than most of these American beers, mind.

Take That? they still going, are they? Not my cuppa char, but you have at it, luv.

Alright, you're tossing me carrots and I'm nibbling. Take That and slow internet... the year I come from is 2017, though even I'm a little behind the times, it would seem. You, however, seem even more so. And to answer your question, fibreoptics happened.

A virus that makes you optimistic, fuck you could bottle that.

Well that's weird. It was 1995 for me. Internet is new and slow and Take That better still be together or I riot. Have we hovercars yet? My Da was sure they'd have hovercars.

I think it might be called whisky. And they have.

Not a bad year, 95, but I have some bad news and some good news. They split but I think they got back together, probably because they were broke and needed the pay-out. Even managed to rope Robbie back in, too. Try to riot quietly, if you feel the need.

No hovercars, though you can get instant porn and you don't have to wait three hours for a pirated TV show to download. So there's up-sides to the tech.

Fair point. Don't rate whiskey myself. Never found one I liked.

...When? Why? Fuck. Bet it was Mark's fault. Never liked him, weasel. Robbie's the talent anyway. I'll lesson my riot if Robbie went solo.

Seriously? Doesn't take 17 hours to torrent a song? And the stupid dialling noise is gone?

And the phones are deadly. No idea where to start with phones.

Trust me, it takes a lot of practice finding the right one. I've investigated them thoroughly.

Now you're asking. A while ago. Robbie left first, if memory serves and, yes, he went solo. Mark went broke so he went into (and won) Celebrity Big Brother one year and afterwards the others started reuniting.

The noise is officially DOA. Depending on your connection, it'll take a minute or less to grab an album but Napster's gone.

Ah, phones. That's a shock to the system, I bet. Try to think of it as a tiny PC in your hand and you may find yourself on safer ground?

At least he left first. Still, I'm in bits over it. Not sure what Big Brother is but how'd he win it of all people.

A minute? That's gonna take more getting used to than the break up. And I have no idea where to start with the phones. There's a calendar on it. And a calculator. Not to mention the internet. This is mad.
