Everyone alright? I feel like it's been a while since we've all checked in after the maze.

Andromeda
I saw your daughter is here! That must be so odd great, right?

Shifters
My name is Remus Lupin. I know I haven't met everyone here yet and this is kind of a shot in the dark but I was wondering if anyone else here has a condition is a werewolf? Or maybe a shifter of some sort?

Tony Stark
Cisco told me that you might be someone to talk to about getting a job after this week. I don't have my CV on me but I'll just be up front with you -- I don't really have many technology or science-based skills. I'm a wizard and most of my skills are very magic based. I don't know how much use that would have to you.

I have at least a high school's level of education and no previous work experience in anything. I will also let you know that I have a chronic illness that will require me to take off several days a month off. I've probably already talked myself out of any job before you even know me

I'm really not picky. It can be an entry level, basic position. Whatever I can get, I can make work. Or if you don't have something you think would be a good idea for me, I understand too. I might have already given it away

Hello Remus. I'm Mercy Hauptman.

I'm not a werewolf, but my husband is. I'm a Walker- a Native American shifter. I can become a coyote.

Hello Mercy.

I admit I didn't know Walkers existed. Is it anything like being a werewolf?

There are similarities, but it's ultimately a different experience. Where I'm from, werewolves need to be bitten and mauled very nearly to death- and even then, there's no guarantee that the Change will take. Wolves live in packs- lone wolves don't often survive long because they tend to go mad. There is more, but I don't want to frighten I don't think we need to go into here. I'm happy to share what I know, though, and I know a lot because I grew up in a werewolf pack.

Walkers are rare, so I am not surprised you've never heard of them. We're direct descendants of a great spirit and are born with the ability to change into that primal entity's... form. I can change into a coyote because my father was an avatar of Coyote, a trickster spirit.

Werewolves are bitten where I'm from as well. Some may live in packs but I never have. It's not really a requirement and most of them are really terrible people I don't want to associate with.

So you were born like that then? Is it painful for you to transform on the moon?

Packs are... interesting. My husband is Alpha of our pack. I know some Alphas run their packs like dictators, but ours is more like a family. If any of our wolves need something, they need to feel comfortable coming to us for help. A stressed wolf is one more likely to snap and expose (or worse, endanger) themselves (or the public). It's not really in my nature to submit to that hierarchy, because coyotes tend to be loners, so it's a constant adjustment.

I was born like this, yes. The first time I changed, I was three months old. It shocked the heck out of my mother.

Changing isn't a painful experience for me, because my four-legged form is as much me as this two-legged form is. It's not something that is (for lack of a better word) forced on me the way a werewolf change is. It tingles a little, but that's more like your foot falling asleep than real pain. And I'm not forced to change with the moon. I can change any time I choose, but if I do it too often, I get hungry and will need to hunt.

[Remus]

Do you have someone to change with on the full?

That sounds really nice, actually, and makes a lot of sense. Where I'm from, other werewolves are not really my first choice of people to associate with. Many of them have been conditioned to be hateful and violent from a young age. Scornful public opinion of them fuels their resentment. I don't think it's our nature but unfortunately, the conditions often drive them to ally themselves with some really toxic political views.

What you describe sounds really functional, though. I'm kind of jealous, to be honest.

Three months is quite young. I was bitten when I was four, although my parents were well aware that it happened. It never occurred to me there might be other experiences for transforming. That's really fascinating to hear.

Mercy

Last moon I put myself in a containment center and I have a friend here who can change into an animal who kept me company. There's also a potion available that helps me retain my sanity. That's not what usually happens naturally. I'm a danger to others without another animal keeping me in check, unfortunately.

I'm not sure the magic that binds the pack together would work with you- but if it would, I'd bring you in. If that was something you wanted. Everyone deserves to feel the love and acceptance and support that the right pack can provide.

[Remus]

I'm glad you have a friend here, but it's a shame that you can't run hunt be free during the moon.

Weird question, but what's your prey drive like? How territorial are you?

I'm not sure that it would either. For the most part, I don't think we necessarily need to be with a pack although the benefits you describe certainly make it sound very appealing. I wish it was an option for me.

Mercy

Well...to be honest, I have been out and about in the past. If there are other animals around who can help curb my aggressive tendencies, I actually seem to be pretty sane. The potion apparently can make that happen although its makes me very tired too. I was just really nervous about how it would work here so I thought it best to take precautions.

I like being out and about a lot better than being contained but I worry that people would be concerned if they found out.

As a wolf, I'm really more of a monster feral being than anything else. I want to attack anything for no real reason. As a human, I really only start to get more wolf-ish when the moon gets close. I usually feel sick and more irritable, sometimes start having cravings. Does that answer your questions?

Can you shift at will or is it only during the full moon? I don't think anyone would do anything to you if you were open about it. I've noticed a lot of people being pretty open about who and what they are.

I've noticed that too. Where I'm from, though, being a werewolf is something I usually keep as secret as I can. People don't treat me very well once they find out, although there are a few who did.

I'm not very open about being a werewolf back home either. It's not a good idea to be open about it unless you want a hunter to track you down and kill you.

That's awful. We don't really have hunters but I'm sure people have lost their lives because of being a werewolf. People usually think we're dangerous even when we're not.

I've had to quite a few times. No, it's not painful. It's only dangerous if we don't get to turn during a full moon.

Yeah, they're not fun. They killed most of my family. People only think that way about us because they're too scared to learn anything about us.

It's not right. But they want to live in fear and burn us to the ground. Not all of us are bad. I wish they would see that.

I'm not. My husband is. I'm a Walker- I shift to coyote.

We're going through a similar problem. Humans are scared of wolves, scared of the packs. The best thing we have going for us is that, thanks to the right PR moves, wolves are being seen as heroes for the most part. One of the females in my pack is a firefighter. Another wolf is a cop. My husband is ex-military... All the wolves who are "out" are painted in a "protector" light.

Yes, of course.

Well, I'm best at defence, but again in a more magical context. Dark Arts, dark creatures, that sort of thing. I don't expect anyone to let me I'm also quite good at charming objects. That is getting them to behave in a way that they wouldn't otherwise. It's also been suggested I might be good with children although again I don't know what use that would be to you.

Well, with all the magical craziness around here, I daresay you'll find yourself useful before long. I do have a department that is attempting to blend science and magic so that we can stabilize this place. It sounds like you'd be an asset, Remus. Normally I'd invite you to tour the facilities, but the good old entity banished my building in favor of ski slopes.

Jim Kirk might need volunteers at the Youth Center if you want to interact with kids. Rogue was looking for teachers for two young girls with magical abilities as well a while back.

I tried to help out in the maze as best I could. From the sound of it, those kinds of odd things aren't uncommon...

I should also warn you that I'm from 1978 and so I'm...pretty far behind on technology and it's current use. Using this network seems to be going alright, though, and I'm definitely willing to learn more about it. As far as magical ability, I do think I know what I'm doing rather pretty fairly well.

I'm not in any rush. I'm still in my first month so the Entity will cover my rent for now or at least it says it will. I can fill out an application in the mean time. There are a few people here who know me and can give references. And you can let me know if you want to schedule an interview, although I understand you might want to just enjoy the snow for right now.

I should also probably just tell you

My senses aren't normally heightened in my human state so I don't always smell other werewolves or shifters. Are there a lot, though?

Glad to hear people don't generally react poorly. That's definitely not usually the case where I'm from.

Interesting. That must be nice sometimes. Teenage boys are probably bad enough with a normal nose. People come and go a lot here but I think there's about 6? If no one's left or arrived recently... I tend to try and avoid them when I'm out running, too.

They aren't all from the same place, so some people must be used to werewolves to some extent.

I...wouldn't argue about the teenage boy thing. It's one small blessing, I suppose, not to have to worry about my senses overwhelming me when I'm in human form. That does sound very hard to manage.

Interesting. Thank you for the information.

I'm not quite sure how to deal with an adult version of my daughter. Am I allowed to tell her off for her language? Is that considered overbearing when she's an adult? But it's her and she's here and I'm ecstatic. If only Ted could join us it'd be perfect.

Better, yes. I should hopefully be working as a Healer very soon. You?
